  1. I like reading this post here. If you were a coach and someone donated money to the program but your son was bad then does that give him the right to play?? It sounds like to me parents are trying to buy their kids playing time. Now I played for Coach Harrington when he was an assistant under Hubie Smith at Bartlett. I will tell you this. In practice I wanted to be on Harringtons team. I loved the way he coached and he was so much more intense than Smith was. I'll also put this out. Look at his team....Talent????? YES.... Experience?????? NO......I don't care who you are unless your name is Kobe, Lebron or Kevin, If you are coaching young Sophmores and Juniors you are going to take a few bumps and the last time i checked Briarcrest is 22-4.. Big deal that they lost to St. Benedict. You ever seen Top College teams lose to a Butler or SIU or someone like that???? If I also recall Briarcrest did make it to the State Championship game under Harrington as well. From what I can tell ya'll have nothing to complain about...Wow the lost the someone they should have beat but guess what it happens no matter what level you play on. As for kids getting playing time because their parents paid for it.....Give me a break, If they would go to public or city school they wouldn't even be on the team...Just be glad they are getting to dress out.
  2. Craigmont played at the Centralia Ill. tournament. They beat the home team Orphans in the first round but then lost their next two. I can't remember who they played but they went 1 and 2 i believe.
  3. where can u get this magazine in memphis?
  4. Well that remark just sounded a little racist. What makes a school a black school and a white school?? The name of the school?? I've been to private schools for some of our games and guess what, they play rap as well. Everybody is referring to memphis as thugs and yes there are some out there but I don't think you can point out memphis as a whole. Like one person said about Thad and Mo with 4.0 and going to G tech. Mitchell also had a kid on their team last year that had over a 4.0 and went to harvard. We played in Centralia Ill. last year and when they played their music it was the same thing, F this, F that, ###### it was terrible. Don't single out all of memphis saying they are thugs and taking a screw up from one school and putting the blame on everybody. I"m just confused on how a school is a white school or black school, please explain.
  5. We played Graves Co. last weekend at Graves Co. We to were down by atleast 10 points in the first half and made a run in the 2nd to beat the by 10 or 12. Is it not the most boring basketball that you've watched? Their conditioning program in the offseason is going into the gym without a basketball and running through their set plays. They don't have what you call an offense. They have over 40 set plays that they try to run every trip down the court. They are tough to beat. They finished top four in the Kentucky state tourney last year. And usually win 20 games a year. In my opinion though competition in Kentucky is pretty weak compared to ours here in Tennessee. Good win against a very good Graves Co. team.
  6. I remember watching a bartlett game years back before i coached or played there. The other team was up by one point with a few seconds left. Bartlett called a timeout and when they went to throw the ball in they had the guy run out into the lobby and back in the other door. When he came in the other door his guy was nowhere to be found. They threw him the ball under the basket and he hit a last second shot to win the game.
  7. my post was not directed to you coach. sorry if it came off that way.
  8. Why is this site full of people bashing people for the team that they like? It's amazing how you never hear anything from anybody about Millington until this year when they are winning games again. Didn't the girls team for Millington DRY up for a few years as well. Now they are winning basketball games and you get on here and start bashing Bartlett. No Pun attended Coachgat. Why is it ok that you can talk about your team but when in this case BHS is having a good year you have to get on here and find something negative to say about them. I don't understand this and never will. But you are in the same situation of what you have said above. Millington has been an afterthought in both boys and girls basketball lately and now that you are winning a few games ya'll are coming out and letting everybody know now. And if i'm not mistaken this isn't the early 90's anymore so whatever happen back then has nothing to do with any of the kids playing right now.
  9. Well i will put an input on your nicknames. Brianna informed me Tuesday night that she wanted to be called Shock. The other nicknames can stick though.
  10. I know Coach Walker isn't coaching anymore. I see her every night we have a game. Her daughter is the Center for Bartlett. Her son is getting ready to sign major D1 for football. He's pretty good.
  11. I don't remember exact years. I think it was around 94-96 maybe. He left there and went to Bartlett to assist under Hubie Smith. Was assistant at BHS a few years then got job at Houston.
  12. Coach Dykes was also a coach at millington. He is Boys coach at Houston now. He had some pretty good girls teams. Don't know how far they made it when he was there but their teams were always competitive.
  13. well being on the boys coaching staff i didn't get to watch that much of the game. I know that at the end of the first quarter it was 24-1 i think in bartletts favor. when i walked in during the second quarter the only one of the "Big Four" on the court was Nikki. I don't know if the others were in foul trouble or if coach was getting younger players some pt. If she was trying to get younger players PT then it was the right thing to do or it might have gotten ugly. Getting those girls in will help later on down the road.
  14. this is a coaches opinion, but if the girls can get taped before the game i think they will find that alot more comfortable. When get start getting those braces on your shoe gets fat and really lose support in your shoe as well. Not only do you lose support in your shoe but it becomes tougher to keep the tied. Getting your ankle taped is the best way to go.
  15. I don't think they care so much about a player of the year award as they do a state championship. So if one of the got the award i'm sure it wouldn't bother the others.
  16. Jasmine James, Ashley Herring, Nikki Thompson. All from Bartlett. Take your pick on any given night. Right now I'd have to give it to JJ. But any given night these three can step up and do anything.
  17. didn't u already post this once?
  18. i've seen them play a couple times. they look better. they are very athletic.
  19. I went to BHS and I coach there now. Coach Whitfield has done a good job over the years with what she has been given. Don't get me wrong she has had talent. With the teams that she has had she's had to adjust from year to year. I know my Senior year at bartlett they had girls that busted it the entire year and won a bunch of games by out hustling other schools. This years team is getting a bunch of press b/c of last years "Big Three" and what they are calling "Fire and Ice" but after watching Bri the other night i think you can include "Big Four" in that phrase. But don't expect to come in and just see raw talent every night that will win them games. It's like one post said it's about their defense as well. Not only do they have the Top 3 players in the district in my opinion with Bri coming on strong but these girls also hustle. I won't tell fibs, i use to hate showing up to watch girls games when i played at bhs and really up to last year didn't like watching them. But these girls make it fun. Just let me put it this way. How do you want to play the game????? No matter how you want to play it the girls will beat you at your own game. That's what makes them so good.
  20. Then that should let you know how good this team can really be. With Ash in foul trouble the first half they were still able to beat a pretty good team. Ashley doesn't have to score for this team to be good because she does so many other things well. If Ash wasn't in foul trouble then it could have been worse for BA. You also have to remember that late in the 4th quarter JJ went down with a knee injury and was out for a little bit. So twice in the game they played without two of their best players and still won. If these girls can stick togethor and keep working hard the sky is the limit for them.
  21. Well we found out what we were made of last night. BA is a very solid team. They were huge. We played them well and found ourselves down by 4 going into the 4th quarter. We cut the lead to 1 and we were fixing to run a set play to take the lead then get a defensive stop and pull it out and make them guard us high and wide but we turned the ball over. Down the stretch we just fell apart. We had every oppertunity to win this game and just couldn't get a lead down the stretch. All the hype that was built around Brandon Brown from everyone we talked to didn't help BA any because he wasn't very good last night. We got a scouting report on Brian Wright but nobody told us that he could shoot from behind the arc. They were 8 for 14 from behind the arc with Wright and Stallings leading them in 3's. This was a good early season test for our guys. We played hard and just couldn't get the baskets down the stretch that we needed. It was a closer game than 73-58 with us fouling and then Wright dunking the ball with 3 seconds left. Good luck to everyone that plays them this year because they are good but very beatable. Good Luck to BA as well. So far I haven't seen a DII school that will challenge them to this point.
  22. I coach at Bartlett and i'm the JV coach and assistant on the Varsity. We have got two players that play both ways. But they are not two players that get a bunch of time on the varsity team. One is a sophmore that we thought was going to be in our rotation but just hasn't come around yet. The other is a Jr. and we are waiting for him to come around and play like he did this summer. If we didn't bring these two guys down to play JV we would have 5 people that we could play. The two dressing out Varsity makes 7 and then we bring up 2 or 3 freshman to give breathers. We are building for the future when we do this. I look at it this way. At the end of this year we will graduate 7 seniors. that means we have a bunch of uniforms to fill next year and what better way to build chemistry than to have these guys playing with the guys they will be playing with next year. Now if you are talking about taking a guy that gets just as much time playing varsity as the starters do then i think it's wrong that he is playing jv. JV teams can be used for many things. Last year we had a Jr. that started for us in the varsity games. After a while he was a different player and we couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. Instead of sitting him on the bench we played him 2 quarters jv. This was just used to give him some kind of confidence for the varsity games. He got into the game and scored 25 and actually found his shot during the jv game. That night in the varsity game he scored 15 and hit two 3's. So i agree using varsity players for jv if you are helping a kid or if you need players to fill a roster. But i disagree if you are playing a kid that plays a lot of minutes on varsity and then he is also playing jv.11
  23. Tommorrow night it will be Bartlett vs. Brentwood Academy. I know that everyone will probably say BA will beat us but I think we have a great chance. I think they will cause us problems on defense and we will cause them a headache when we have the ball as well. It will all come down to if we can take care of the basketball and keep them off the offensive glass. This will be the biggest game the Seniors have played in a while and they are all looking forward to the challenge. This should be a great HS basketball game. Will post about the game tom night.
