  1. Lebanon .. When Killian doesn't pitch, Warren Co. is a sub-par team.
  2. Do they pick a player for each position for all-district?
  3. You're wrong. Riverdale only scored 3 runs off of him in the regular season. Barnes did not dominate. I thought Siegel scored enough to win, but obviously it wasn't.
  4. Nothing happened to Siegel. They played fine, Roberts didn't have his best stuff today. You cant expect a pitcher to come out and throw a gem everyday. Roberts needs to stay focused and hopefully gets another shot Tuesday or Wednesday. Siegel impresses me with the bats. They hit the ball very well against Barnes. Scoring 6 runs against him is definitely a moral victory, and they should have scored more. Hats off to Oakland. They came into the district tournament losing 5 out of their last 6 district games and took care of business. Like I said earlier, Siegel isn't that bad off. Given that they take care of White Co. tomorrow, they will see mediocre pitching from the loser of the Riverdale/Oakland and whoever wins that game will see mediocre pitching. I love tournament time. You get to see what teams have the best bullpens! Lebanon has impressed me, but I hope Treadway brings his boys to the championship game.
  5. No excuse really. Siegel could be 2nd place right now if they would have won one more district game. They could have easily split with Riverdale (they were ahead both games), swept cookeville, and takes two from Lebanon. Bottom line is that they didnt get the job done. No use crying over spilt milk. Siegel still has a good chance in my opinion. Will be tough going against Barnes first round though.
  6. Siegel proved they can hit hard throwing lefty's this year. They would much rather see a Choate/Barnes than a Killian first round. Pitching pretty much drops off for both Oakland and Riverdale after their two #1's. Woods has impressed me though this year, and will be a key pitcher for Riverdale in this tournament. I see Riverdale saving Choate for game 2 against the winner of Oakland/Siegel.
  7. Treadway is definitely making use of all the talent he has over there at Blackman. This is going to be a very interesting tournament, and I'm going out on a limb and saying that Riverdale will not win it. I have my thoughts on who will, but I'll keep that information disclosed because it will stir up so much hatred on these boards between the young-guns.
  8. I wouldn't say caught a break .. You have to score a run to win anyways.
  9. Are you saying that IF Siegel sweeps Warren Co and Blackman sweeps White Co, Blackman will finish 2nd outright?
  10. Very true. Siegel is getting a second chance though and they need to take advantage of it Monday/Tuesday. Any teams playing today?
  11. That helps Siegel out alot. Very exciting that this district race is going to be decided in the last week!
  12. Close on with Blackman/Riverdale..Good win for the Stars. Second place is still way up for grabs. If Siegel gets the sweep tomorrow, I think 2nd will come down to the Siegel vs Warren Co. series. Siegel is lucky they are still in the race. Anyone know the Lebanon/WarrenCo and Cookeville/White Co scores?
  13. Noone is in the driver's seat right now. It's anyones spot to take.
  14. It's a fight for the 2 seed now. Almost everyone is in the mix.
  15. Sweeping Cookeville was huge for the Pats! Another key series with Blackman this week. Can't wait to make it out to watch these two teams play.
  16. Riverdale has definitely impressed me with their bats this season. I really enjoyed watching them put up some runs in the Warrior Classic, and some bombs at that. Riverdale has one weakness in my opinion, pitching depth. If they don't win the regular season, they could run into some trouble in the district tournament. Good luck to 7-AAA teams this weekend. A key series is Siegel vs White Co. If Siegel pulls off the sweep, they will have a lot of confidence heading into a matchup with Riverdale for first in the district.
  17. No doubt he would take Oakland over Siegel if they played against eachother. He just enjoys kids who work hard and are very talented. Thats why he likes a few of Siegel's players such as Kenneth Roberts and Matt Dodrill. Anyways, this is just another thread waiting to get closed down.
  18. I couldn't agree with you more. Talent-wise, I feel that Siegel has the edge. However, Blackman has a great coach in Treadway and he will find a way to keep his kids in the game. Siegel will have to be sharp defensively and Blackman will have to play small ball.
  19. I'm not sure anyone ever said Riverdale didn't stand a chance against Warren Co..If Killian would have started tonight, I feel that the game would have been much closer and could have gone to the Pioneers. However, you can say "if" all you want .. Riverdale got the job done and are 2-0 in the district. Good job Warriors
  20. I'm limited to 7AAA because that is basically the only district I follow, and I think this district is blessed with some great leadoffs. I'd have to say P.J. Polk is this districts best leadoff. He can hit with power and for average, and can run the basepaths very well. From what I've heard, Choate from Riverdale isn't leading off anymore, but I know he was a pretty good leadoff. He lacked in the speed department, but he makes up for it with his knowledge at the plate. Leadoff hitter's must have the ability to make the pitcher throw 5-6 pitches every at bat and be a smart base runner, while keeping their on base percentage near .450 in my opinion.
  21. The only 'new' starter in the infield would be JR Roden at first base. Matt Thorne played SS for Siegel for 3/4 of the season last year due to Carlton's injury. From what I've seen, JR Roden is a much better player defensively than Siegel's last first baseman (forgot his name). Is the weather going to hold up in Murfreesboro this week? Its quite nice down here in Orlando.
  22. 1. Riverdale/Siegel Riverdale - From what I've seen from the Warriors this preseason, Choate and Woods should provide a good 1/2 punch. They hit the ball well and it will take a smart pitcher to beat them. Great power in the middle of the lineup. Siegel - Earned a region berth last year in just their second year, and all they lost was their star short stop. Defensively sound with arguably the best infield in this district. Hitting is suspect, but this team will be in every ball game with their pitching and defense. Must find a #2 behind Roberts. I've seen Robinson throw once this preseason and he looked great. 2. Oakland/Warren Co. Oakland - Best junior class in the mid state. This team can hit the ball well, and have great speed at the top of the lineup with Barnes and Polk. Third and second are question marks defensively. Solid 1/2 with Barnes and Burnette. Once district tournament rolls around, they might be weak in the the bullpen. Warren Co. - Arguably the best pitcher in the district with Killian. Coming off a 20+ win season, the Pioneers are looking to go a step further and earn a region berth. Not sure how this team will hit this year. Defensively, this team doesn't seem to have the idea yet. However, I haven't seen them play this preseason, so I could be totally off 5. Blackman - Great coach, great kids. This team finds a way to win and I wouldn't be surprised if this team split with the big 4 (Riverdale, Siegel, Oakland, Warren Co.). 6. Cookeville - Team lost alot last of seniors last year, so this could be a rebuilding year for the Cavaliers. I believe this will be the team that decides who finishes first or second in this district, depending on if they sweep/split with Riverdale/Siegel. 7. Lebanon - Still looking for that magic season. 8. White Co. - I would love to see these kids gain some confidence with a big win over a team like Blackman/Cookeville/Lebanon. I will be in Florida next week on a business trip, but I should be able to make it back on the T to see how all these teams faired on opening day. Good luck to everyone and I can't wait to see another season of 7AAA baseball.
  23. Barnes is good, but not quite on Sonny's level.
  24. From what I've seen, Barnes is a 5-tool player. Arm strength, hit for average, hit for power, speed, and fielding ability are all there for him. From what I hear, he can easily get rattled. If Oakland wants him throwing this year, they need to make sure his head stays in the game. I look forward to watching him and Oakland progress this season.
