  1. your inability to read and comprehend is really quite funny. It is not a question about the division as a whole, but about individual wrestlers in each weight class. It is an opinion thread about individuals. READ SLOWLY, GET SOMEONE TO HELP YOU IF YOU NEED TO, GIVE YOUR OPINION OR MAKE YOUR OWN THREAD. "Country boy needs help reading" could be another thread you could start! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

....If your talking about individuals in EACH weight class, then how is that not the division as a whole??? And for once I find myself agreeing with pk. Look at the all-americans at the collegiate level and then look at whether or not they wrestled in DI or DII. You'll see there are far more from the DII. I also don't understand how you can say the All-America point is irrelevant, it most certainly is relevant for this argument.

  2. Thanks. I was going to help him with a history lesson but I'll post it here http://tssaa.org/schdir/records/GetTheRecord.cfm

Unfortunatley the link you posted didn't work, however I'm well aware of the history of champions in TN. My comment was joking about your 1949 post in a different thread. I'm well aware Baylor won it few times in the 70's and so on, however, as I said the majority of their titles came much, much later so I didn't see any relevancy to 1949. That was all. Have a nice day /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  3. You're being generous if not magnanomous regarding CBHS' chances next year of detroning. But since it's February 2009 and hope springs eternal, why not! Heck, go out on a limb and speculate that FR will give them a run for their money.

After reading this and some of your previous posts, I fail to find any reason or point behind anything you write. I simply responded to ghouse who was responding to another about which team will challenge in the near future. Therefore, based on what I saw from this weekend and the entire season, CBHS will look very good next year and most certainly in two years. But hey, no need to get your red pantyhose in a wad, your team has the title so enjoy it instead of making unnecessary comments.

Oh actually I really enjoyed your one post about the history of Baylor and their championships, "It all started in 1949.... blah blah.." When actually, Baylor didn't start winning almost all of their championships until the beginning of 2000 But ok, I'm sure 1949 had something to do with it.

  4. cbg,

    To answer your earlier question:

I believe there will be several DII teams that will challenge Baylor in the near future. I would include McCallie and CBHS in that group. McCallie looks good for a few years to come as does CBHS. CBHS wrestled Baylor to a better match this year than Ryan (the team score was closer and they won 5 matches versus the 3 for Father Ryan). McCallie has been saying for a while now that next year's team would challenge Baylor and I think they likely will. I think you will see things get a little more interesting over the next few years.

    Regarding the current quote above:

I am not sure of the scores between the Sharpshooters (Blackman) and NCW this year but I know that Sharpshooters has loses to Cleveland and Wave Wrestling club this year in dual meets at the Tullahoma duals. What any of that entails for high school isn't exactly known since you never know how HS coaches can develop middle school talent and how kids that don't wrestle in middle school will turn out through a high school career.

I agree with you on all points except for your argument that McCallie will challenge next year. I think it will be your team, the Brothers of Memphis who will challenge next year. After speaking with a CBHS parent over the weekend, it appears they have a very deep pool of upcoming youngsters who are very talented. So if I had to choose a favorite to challenge next year it would be them.

  5. Thank You Mr. "facenthecrowd". It has been several years since i have won an award, the last one being the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. While I appreciate the suggestion for the "Irish Dad Award" I don't think I would qualify, not because i'm not smart enough (see nobel prize ) but because i'm not an Irish Dad or Irish fan. "Ironman55" had asked for a vote on who might win this wonderful award, he then game some names to choose from and i simply chose MWR for the reasons stated. I figured that if i gave good, solid evidence for my voting for MWR (MAN WITH RESENTMENT) it would help me win this little contest. By the way, it hurt my feelings when you said that "i have issues."

On another note, I heard them little purple boys squall and squeal when the wrestled Blackman. We'll i actually did not hear them because i was not there, but every other time i have seen FR lose a dual match, them little purple boys (along with their parents) squall and squeal like little piggies so i just imagined that they did it against blackman. I apoligize if i got this part wrong.

i need to do some research on the NCW and blackman sharpshooters to get the exact details you want. I'll get back to you on that and i think you'll be surprised. Tell them little purple boys hello for me and tell them the vatican don't like squealing ! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Hmm. I'm pretty sure I gave Blackman their due when they beat Ryan. They were the better team that day. And if you would read previous posts and do some research (which I'm sure you haven't), I have also given a lot of credit to Blackmans young program. They are on the rise and they are a great example of a high school team achieving success through middle school programs, which is a must nowadays if you want your team to compete for state championships. Hmm and I'm the one with resentment? Your posts show your own buddy /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> .

  6. Evening, MWR. I understand your emotions after losing to Baylor, after all, Ryan as I said has a proud and venerable program. This year, too tough for the duals. Others have proud programs as well, wheter they are longstanding, fleeting, coming and going, or whatever. Each parent and wrestler has an equal passion as you, regardless of the past. I am sure the battles of the past were/are important to you, all of that is acceptable. Smart alec comment from a mother" is where we need to have a discussion...did you hear it with your own ears, or was it hearsay? Most gentlemen, and I try to be among that group, tend to let some slight or even egregious indiscretions slide from the smarter and more passionate and fairer sex, generally speaking. And forgive me, but by mentioning the past success you have had (not you, but wrestlers) against Baylor, and that Ryan has not had recently, you have built the case against yourself about harboring resentment and having this agenda.

My main point on the reffing is that safety is paramount, and holding safety calls for even a split second to see how it affects the match is just plain wrong. Noone wants a wrestler hurt for now, a week from now, or 20 years from now, because they did not blow the friggin' whistle. Number two, you are right, we all expect perfect from the refs, ain't gonna get it, we should strive for the best, however. And you are being constructive by suggesting refs from anywhere else but here to fix this perception, but again it is hinting that you have a bias of some kind. IMHO, they are plenty knowledgeable and experienced enough, even though they are from "around here", and the judgment calls they make will always be accepted or rejected by two sides that have a dog in the hunt.

Whether you apologize to the Baylor folks or not (sounds like you really haven't, with the smart-alecy thing), that is your call, although I think you should. As far as apologizing to the Ryan fans, I like that, too. You did throw Freestyle under the bus, eh? That is your call, obviously...maybe there are Ryan fans that might think you aren't the best ambassador for that fine school , and here you are making value judgments on Ryan fans. And trust me, wrestling fans other than Ryan's probably feel the same way.

As I said before, your posts are usually negative, one-sided, lacking in perspective, rarely constructive, and you apparently don't think before you post.

Now, MWR, you don't know me, but whining is not one of my specialties. Never made sense to me. And there is no need to ever apologize to me, because I don't want it or need it. I only care about that if I respect the person who is apologizing, or if I care what that person thinks. And I don't in this case. I will throw you a left-handed compliment, however, the tone of your post was not bad...

Won't even comment on any of your "senseless dribble" to take a quote out of your book except regarding the officials. What instances are you talking about where the refs won't blow the whistle. My point of the refs is there knowledge and ability to make the correct calls. In many cases, people would say they actually blow the whistle too early and are too quick to call potentially dangerous. (Now go ahead navy and misconstrue my words further and accuse me of not caring about the wrestler's safety. I can already see that one coming /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />)

  7. Hey Navy, I'm back from my "hole that I crawled into" and was just scratching my head on a few things. Like why you'd make assumptions about me because I assure you, I harbor no past/present ill-feelings as I'm counting the championships on my fingers from my days at Ryan. However, I do apologize-NOT to you, but to the Ryan faithful and Baylor fans- for my initial post. It was just quite irritating after watching my boys receive an ole-fashioned but whoopin, when back in the good ole days we used to beat the boys in the red pantyhose, and then have to hear a smart alec comment from a mother after one of the few wins Ryan was able to muster. So, for that, I'm sorry and am man enough to say so.

Next, I was confused on some advice you gave me. In particular, the advice where I should find something constructive and stop whining.....I thought you would've taken that advice yourself after reading numerous posts about the officiating this past weekend. Yeah of course the officiating was sub-par at best, BUT that's what it has always been. I've always said if we want to get very knowledgable referees, then we need to go up north or out to the midwest and bribe them to come to little old TN. So get over the Refs, because it's not going to change.

Last but certainly not least, I want to inform all that this freestyle fellow is not a representative of Ryan or Catholics for that matter. He actually might be in need of confession, or in need of counsel from BCB. And speaking of BCB-- I don't believe he made the trek to Music City, although he could've seen his second favorite team put a whooping on some Nashville Catholics.

  8. My point is simply that if a sophomore wins, then he wins, if a senior wins, well....And of course there can be that angle. The wrestlers wrestle, there is a winner and a loser, they are gladiators, proud of both sides...give credit where credit is due...

    When did I not?

  9. Well, Duncan probably wrestles 140 at state. Kudos to Justin Cash, he wrestled well. He simply wrestles whoever gets sent out by the other team, and then outwrestles them. Ghouse, in fairness to Justin, I don't think there is a "sophomore/senior" angle here, just as there has not been for Justin in the past several years, or for that matter any other wrestler...it just "is what it is"...Duncan wrestled well, good luck to him, and good luck to all today.

No, Navy, there could be a sophomore/senior angle there...

  10. You know, MWR, everyone wrestled well, including Austell, including Cates , etc. You seem to want to rub everyone's face in something, what is your affiliation with Father Ryan? Are you a former state champ, do you have a son who was one? What do you do these days except spew this senseless dribble from your safe habitat online? You seem miserable and definitely meanspirited, and I think you need to get a clue and either do something constructive or crawl back or slither back into your pathetic hole. Let the wrestlers and those affililated with them enjoy what they do, and quit embarassing yourself and Father Ryan....they are the ones doing the heavy lifting, and you are a hanger-on acting out.

No, Navy the same could be said of you. Nothing would ever have been posted, but when a baylor fan has to "rub" it in when Ryan fans cheer for one of the few wins they achieved, is when I'm going to say something. the match was already secured anyways. I think I actually mentioned that he wrestled well. What would you suggest to be constructive?? Get on threads and post when I have nothing to do with them like yourself??

ANYWAYS, congrats to Baylor once again. Nothing but studs and it appears they will continue to reign in the coming years. I do wish a match between themsleves and Bradley would happen, so that they may represent the D-II well.

    Good luck to all wrestlers at Individuals...........(even the BA ones /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> )

  11. Congratulations to Baylor tonight over Ryan.. Clearly the better team.

However, what has to be the best quote of the tournament was during the finals match.. Ryan's Austell decisioned Cate(?) of Baylor and after the match, a Baylor mother turns to a Ryan fan and says something to the effect of, "So did he not wrestle down because he was afraid of Trey? (Stavrum). Well to answer that---- Uh, ACTUALLY ill-informed Baylor mom, Austell has wrestled 135 all season long AND has actually beaten Stavrum several times in his career. He wrestled 40 because Coach S. felt it gave them the best chance. Don't worry he'll be 135 at Individuals. So to answer her question, NO, Mr. Austell would not be afraid to wrestle Stavrum. Maybe (actually it would be a Probably) he would've wrestled him and beaten him again.. Although, it's ok Cate's mom, your son still wrestled a great match. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Congrats to Baylor, very well done.

  12. no offense, (I have been drinking (alot) tonight) but if I were to walk into the D2 state duals, then at least I would know who all the bellyackers are always trying to shoot down the D1 public school posters on here always complaining about how your schools dont recruit our talented zoned phenoms into your system...............

oh yeah, by the way, good luck this weekend.... I'll be working............. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

    Whew, close one.

  13. yea a 34 act and 4.0 gpa in high school....i can totally understand where your comin from there

    GO MBA /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

Besides being bitter about the fact that Ryan won again against MBA, it's funny that you have no business posting on this thread or even the wrestling board for that matter. It's unfortunate you even said where you went to school, because you have represented them poorly. Your self-esteem must be in question if you have to post your act and gpa....Stick to the football boards.... or bowling.

  14. Francis v. Wright match was sloppy. This favored the underdog of course. Francis wrestled the worst match of his career and STILL won.

Well Mr first time poster, since your new some slack will be given. I can think of one match, in particular, that I think Francis would himself consider his worst match ever and NOT the match this past Saturday. However, since I have the utmost respect for him and his toughness to wrestle with his back in the condition that it is, I won't even comment further about it. Great win for Jeff and I hope he can bring another title back to Nashville with him.

  15. I can't believe what I am reading here. The Ryan faithful are now saying that stalling is smart wrestling. I guess when we hear the old purple people eaters scream he is stalling, you are actually complimenting the wrestler you are screaming at.

Get ready for the the real red team.

The Ryan Faithful? Please don't consider the comments of chuck and freestyle the entire Ryan Faithful, they're a whole lot of Ryan faithful out there /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> . And yeah, even though fans (not just Ryan fans) yell stalling, doesn't mean it's not smart wrestling...... And hopefully they'll be ready for those boys in the red pantyhose.

    Go IRISH

  16. Point taken!

Probably wish I didn't say anything at this point, but I wasn't trying to belittle their efforts or accomplishments. I think a ton of both these kids, and my son is friends with one of them. I have told my son my opinion after a match, but sometimes I waited a few days to allow him to just enjoy the win. So I hope nobody thinks that I was trying to belittle the boys.

Well blLeg and Navy, I'm confused why individuals such as yourself always feel the need to get on here and dispute what people say and criticize them when there is no need for it.

WHERE in my original post did I EVER say that the 125 match was an all-american type match??? I simply stated it was an EXCITING match and it was. If that match didn't entertain you, then you might not have a pulse. I wrote how impressive a freshman looked against a seasoned senior, and whether you meant to or not, you both diminished A KID'S effort and heart.

And Francis didn't just "fall off." A wrestler such as himself, who is a "legman", doesn't just fall off. Wright was doing a good job of getting him too high and out of position and was actually positioning himself for those reversals. But once again, lets here some more negative comments about the match from people like yourselves that aren't even affiliated with either of these schools. Hey navy, these two teams must not be that "sloppy" considering they both beat BA pretty handily.

BCB, you're a better man than I in that case...

    Go IRISH

  17. It was a great meeting between the two hated rivals with a couple matches coming down to the last seconds. As many people expected, the winner was decided while there was still some matches remaining.

Out of all the matches, Jeff Francis vs. Dylan Wright was the most exciting. I have to say, I was very impressed with the freshman from Ryan. The match went back and forth and Wright nearly had the escape before time expired. Congrats to Jeff Francis who is a great wrestler and even better guy. I know he has had injury problems, but I wish him nothing short of another State title at the Individuals. Hopefully this will give some momentum to the Irish for next weekend.

    Best Match- Francis vs Wright

Best Wrestler- Mr. Marchetti (tech fall)

  18. Wow! I don't think that I am alone when I say those are some outrageous predictions. I mean that doesn't mean it can't happen, but anyone in their right mind wouldn't make this prediction. So....

Are you really predicting a loss from a Simpson(MBA). Last time I checked that little Simpson has not not even been taken to the second period in any of his dual meet matches against Ryan!

Then you pick Mix over a returning state Champ! I don't know.

Well lets not let our emotions over rule our reason when it comes to posting upsets. I also notice how you knew he first and last name of the Ryan wrestlers while only knowing the MBA kids by there last name. Hmmm.... sounds like Chuck and Freestyle are sipping the same kool-aid.

Good luck to both teams and may the Lord protect them tonight.

Well if we're talking about outrageous predictions, rfran's prediction of an upset at 103 would fit that category. MOSLEY won by major dec.

  19. If everything works like it did last year, then yes I will be there. I will have a handful of purple beads for the Irish mommies, and hopefully they will......... never mind.

Glad to hear it. Although, I'd be careful with those Irish mommies. I've been told that they'll be personally guarded by In Hoc. Good luck to your Irish in the coming weeks.

  20. tnko,

You are not correct. Most children that attend public school do live in their designated zone, however, a student may attend a public school that they are not zoned for. I thought I read something the other day that there was going to be open zoning in Williamson County for Page and Independence. Also, Murfreesboro used to be open zoning in the old days when Riverdale was the king of football. It is not open zoning now with all of the new High Schools that have been built. Don't make it look like a public school can only take students in their zone, for if you do, you are not telling the truth. Case in point, G.P. West lived in Murfreesboro and his son attended Brentwood High School. Now I know you are going to say that his father taught and coached there and you would be correct; however, he was not zoned for Brentwood! Overton, in their hey day had most of their wrestlers from other zones. Casey Brewster did not live in the Overton zone as well as others!!!!

Exactly right, I guess tnko just felt like leaving the open zone issue out of his post. A wrestler choosing to go to say Bradley or whichever school because it's an open zone is, in itself, a form of recruiting.
