  1. I hope Coach A shows some sense and hires someone that he is comfortable with. Lost when will you ever give Coach A any credit? Maybe you should be the coach since you know what's best for the program. Heck maybe you should be the administrator too since he thought enough of Coach A to hire him. When he wins the Gold Ball HERE! We used to be on a three to four year rotation winning it. Since Coach A took over we cannot even get to the dance. Before Rankin how many did you win and what was the rotation like then? When Riverdale won all of the gold balls how many teams did Murfreesboro have competing? Just curious if it is really Coach A or just if things have changed a little bit in Murfreesboro. Also just wondering what Riverdale has done since opening and before the 90's. Oak Ridge, Germantown, and Portland have all had their fair share of success in a certain time period. However all have had a recent drought when it comes to gold balls. I wonder if it is coaching or something else? Why dont you just be happy you have a coach that helped to guide the team to the semi finals. That in itself is a huge accomplishment.

  3. junior high jonnies, Beech__________- State Champs, live with it Like I said I cant remember you ever mentioning Beech before this past year. And I am sure that you really had anything at all to do with their success. Why dont you stick to Sumner Co. threads. Maybe you can tell Lassister or Hatfield or Crabtree how to coach.
  4. 1.) I say Terry Anderson because every year his teams seem to be competitive. They play in the largest classification and have been to the state playoffs 7 of the last 9 years. 2.) I say Maurice Fitzgerald because he won back-to-back state titles and no other coach in Metro/Nashville football history can say this. 3.) Refer to #2 4.) The 2003 Class 4A State Championship Hillsboro Burros were a force winning their final 14 games in route to a state title. The 27-26 semifinal win over Melrose was one of the better games ever played. 5.) The 1997 Class 4A State Championship Pearl-Cohn Firebirds were a dominant football team. They won their final 14 games and from the opening round through the state semifinals in the playoffs they did not allow a single point against Shelbyville, Whites Creek, Springfield, & Dyersburg. 6.) The 1981 Class AAA State Championship John Overton Bobcats were a great football team led by a dominant defense and their finest effort came on the biggest stage in the state title game shutout victory over Rhea County 3-0. 7.) Frank Omiyale was an all-state offensive tackle at Whites Creek High School who went on to start at Tennessee Tech for 3 years before being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 2004. He now starts at left tackle for the Chicago Bears. 8.) John Henderson was an all-state tight end/defensive end at Pearl-Cohn High School who went on to start at Tennessee before being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is now a Pro Bowl level defensive lineman in the NFL who is among the highest paid players at his position in the entire league. 9.) Tommy Wilson is an assistant football coach at Pearl-Cohn High School 10.) Dorris Armstrong is an assistant football coach at Maplewood High School Good post. Good reasons for each. I forgot about Omiyale and Wilson.
  5. Fite graduated in 2000. Henderson graduated in 1998. Thanks! I'll go with Fite then for best in the last decade. He was a heck of a player. How are things shaping up with the burros? Who will be on the staff and who are some of the better looking players at this point? Making the playoffs just got a lot harder for you all. I wonder if the administration had known how things would turn out if they would have still joined the Williamson County schools? The money and competition are great but your chances of making the playoffs just went way down.
  6. Bush has been at AHS since the new school opened. Thats probably a little over ten years. He has put in his time and I am sure he will be missed. I dont see him leaving AHS.
  7. Bleacher you always have good knowledge. What are your opinions on the job openings in metro?
  8. 1. Have to say Terry Anderson. 2. Pigue or Fitzgerald 3. Coutras 4. Hillsboro 03/04 5. Pearl Cohn with Henderson 6. Overton 1981 7. Not sure on the year of Henderson so him if its within the decade, Fite for same reason, or recently Dontell Watkins. Not a big name but just ran a 4.26 for Utah State's combine. Played at AHS. 8. Not nearly old enough to comment. 9. Hemontoler or Peden. Reese maybe just because of his background at TSU. 10. Hard to argue with Doris. Jim Fuller has been awfully loyal and consistent. Metro has had some good coaches, players, and teams which makes it pretty hard to narrow some of these questions down. Bleacher had some really good responses and his knowledge obviously goes back farther than mine.
  9. You're wrong He usually is. Another spoonful of air.
  10. Good post. I agree with points 1-4 and 6. I dont think metro has failed to train the coaches though. I dont know of any school district that has a district wide coaches clinic. The coaches that I know of in metro do go to several clinics a year to better themselves. But this may or may not be the norm? You also forgot: 7. Cancers. In each school you have cancers that are one bad cell that try to spread the message that the coach doesnt know anything or that his little johnny should be playing at this position or just playing period. This causes unneeded and unwanted stress for the entire team. 8. Little or no booster club support. There are many nights when the stands might as well be empty.
  11. I would say Peden would make a great choice but he's not leaving AHS and Thigpen from Overton but that would be a stretch. Too far for him Im sure and he's got a good situation going at OHS. Komisar would be good too but Im sure he's gone to the business world. How about Atkins for this one?
  12. I've "decided" I love "the quotes". I'm gonna "use" them always. Your "description" sounds like Overton. "McGavock" must suck. More spoons of air.
  13. Yep they sure are....about the same time Scott Smith is coming to Hillsboro to be the next head football coach....youre not the only one who can be a pain in the butt. Your great wisdom and knowledge adds up to a spoonful of wasted air. You're the one who said they could be Alcoa. That's a lot more of a reach than Smith to HB. What about Spears sucking with all that talent? Not really. Yours didnt happen and wasnt going to happen. At least mine has a lottery chance since you want to be so realistic.
  14. So Spears "must suck" as bad as Overton. "He went" .500 with "that talent". Spears was starting up the program. They had many obstacles to overcome and considering that I would say he did pretty well. I would also say that making it to the playoffs is doing pretty well in Overton's case. 8-2 overall and then getting beat by Franklin in the playoffs is pretty good.
  15. Yep they sure are....about the same time Scott Smith is coming to Hillsboro to be the next head football coach....youre not the only one who can be a pain in the butt. Your great wisdom and knowledge adds up to a spoonful of wasted air.
  16. No but anyone with half a brain can tell you that if you have 5A/6A talent and are playing 2A/3A football your chances of winning drastically improve. You always have to be a real smart butt dont you.
  17. while i agree with the 1st couple of comments i know for a fact bush has no desire to be the coach at mcgavock. Come on wink sure he does.......
  18. Yeah, but keep in mind you thought East Lit could be the next Alcoa Im looking at one thing when I say that....talent in smaller classification. Maybe I should change Alcoa to Fulton. Its an exaggeration thats all.
  19. I think there are probably worse teaching jobs out there. I dont think it would be too bad. Like I said it "could be" a very good job. Anyone know why he keeps putting could be in quotes? "Could be" because probably wont ever be. McGavock has the talent no doubt. Under the right leadership and direction McGavock could be a serious contender. However can you get the talent to practice each day, can you get the talent to even come to school each day, will you have the support of the administration, will you be allowed to hire assistants as you see fit, will you be able to upgrade the facilities, will you be able to turn away all of the people who have used McGavocks facilities for so long, will you be able to convince the stinking band parents that there is actually a football field and not a band field and a football game not a band concert rehearsal game? "Could be" because probably wont ever be. McGavock is a band school, just ask the parents.
  20. Walker of Field, Truth you could not be further from. The fork runs not with the one called Spoon. Good job, Mcgavock could be, if teach not there, have to you did not. May the fork be with you I think there are probably worse teaching jobs out there. I dont think it would be too bad. Like I said it "could be" a very good job.
  21. Walker of Field, Afraid I am that you are on a path that to the dark side of the fork. Anger and hate choose not. May the fork be with you. No anger or hate. Just a plain and simple dislike for someone who always puts metro down, always see the negative but never the positives, always thinks he knows much more than he actually does, and thinks his grass is always greener even though he's sitting on a beech with no grass. I think its funny how he never mentioned Beech before this year. In the past it was always Gallatin and Hendersonville. Fork you going to be spoons assistant at McGavock or maybe ya'll want East Lit after all?
  22. Now Snow, lets not get too carried away - I think that if something was on the horizon, a few of us in Smith County would have a little knowledge of coming events. there are those in smith county that know exactly what i'm talking about. i'm not kidding you scoot, it's gonna be HUGE!!!!! What is Rankin coming home or something and bringing his son with him????
  23. Bush would make an excellent choice to be head coach. Personally I think if he wanted to be head coach he would have applied for Wilson Central. Would have been an easy commute for him. Plus he could have been reunited with his good buddy! Maybe if Bush took McGavock for some crazy reason he could convince old runtheball to come out of retirement. Antioch is well coached and if the kids all get on board they could be there for the playoffs.
  24. East and Maplewood are taking a while to fill. McGavock may actually be filled before either of them. You know nothing about HL and are taking a cheap shot for even mentioning it. You know nothing about that situation except for what you read in some paper. We could care less if you take metro seriously. As I have stated before you should just take care of Beech and tell those coaches how to do their jobs. Im sure you are really close and could teach them a thing or two.
