  1. ONCE again Legend................................... We played 8 Legend. Would've played 9 if Quenton wasn't hurt. Starters: #23 Quan Campbell #34 Charles Taylor #32 Tevin Crayton #30 Jarvis Porter #31 Darren Dunbar Subs: #3 Joseph Gordon, #5 Rashad Wade, #35 Deandre Perry At this time of the season, the players should already be in great conditioning shape, especially the way we play so I'm not worried about playing 8 people. Plus, any coach would know to play their best players as much as possible during the big games.
  2. DC is going to have to come out and MAKE a statement in this game after suffering that loss to Obion. DC by 11.
  3. lol call me D, but I know Temple plays great fundamental style basketball. Over here in West Tennessee, it's all about the fast breaks, pressing, and forcing turnovers. If we were to get Temple to play a fast paced/up-tempo game, I would like our chances. Like I said in an earlier post, I think our boys try to get the ball past halfcourt in 5 seconds instead of the 10 you're limited to, which causes us to turn the ball over. I'm sure DC will fair fine tonight against Westview. Good luck!
  4. Thank you for pointing that out. I'm sure our coaches have those figured out though, realizing that we haven't played the "top-notch" competition we could be playing with. We have been to state and realize what type of teams make it there. The dribble drive IS hard to learn, but it DOES help you stay aware of the backdoor cuts, which lead to easy baskets. On another note, Tevin had 23 pts. and 11 rebounds last night against Milan. Humboldt led 32-17 at half, but Milan cut the lead down to 11 in the 3rd. Both teams traded baskets in the 4th, which led to the 11 point win.
  5. I would talk about Humboldt/Milan if I would've been there. I'm guessing Manassas and Humboldt both had an off game whenever they played these games. Obviously we have beaten either team by a large deficit, so to be honest, I don't know what this proves. I guess it proves that we have played these teams twice before and they finally realized how to prepapre for us, or we both came out and expected to blow the other team out. We don't know, but I can tell you that both teams had better be ready going into the postseason because if you take a game lightly, then there's a good chance you'll be watching the State Championship from Row 13 at the Murphy Center.
  6. We played 8 Legend. Would've played 9 if Quenton wasn't hurt. 7. Trust me, I've seen it a few times this year, but I believe the boys start to rush themselves. They don't realize that 10 seconds to break the press is a long time (really depends on how fast the refs count). IMO, Charles is our best "big man" ball handler and then Tevin. For the guards, Joseph Gordon (#3 I think is his number) is our best guard who can handle the ball and break the press.
  8. I agree about our ball handlers. Whenever I think of a great ball handler for Humboldt, it would have to go back a couple of years to Toylon Smith, which we have no one who can compare with his PG skills. We started to break LC's press later on the game whenever Coach B. realized how to. Joseph Gordon is our best ball handler though.
  9. Just got word that we (Humboldt) won 59-48 tonight against Milan. Source told me that we turned the ball over quite a few times and couldn't hit any shots. I'm guessing Milan played good defense against us just hearing about the turnovers and missed shots (which could've all been contested). I'm just waiting on some people to get on here and dog on Humboldt about this, but it doesn't concern me or the other Humboldt fans. Milan is actually an above average team this year, so I give them props for placing us that close. Humboldt plays Bradford tomorrow night in Humboldt. red_16, did you make it to the game tonight? Hopefully you can shed a little more light on this.
  10. You are taking these posts the wrong way I think. At first, Legend (not sure about you yankee) said that Humboldt stood no chance against Manassas. IMO, we have a much better chance than last year. This year's Humboldt's team is more athletic than last year's. We also play more team ball this year. This matchup would be great and I would be excited for it. I have no idea who would win this game, but i will guarantee that it will not be a blow out either way.
  11. Good post red, but I was just wanting to know why we only played 8 of our players the other night against Lake Co. instead of the 10 we usually play. The players missing were Quenton and Antonio, which Quenton never dressed out. Have you heard anything on that red?
  12. #1 is the Coach. He/she has to be stern at first and take control of his/her team before the team controls him. With a good coach, the players will come. That's just my opinion.
  13. Is our Jr. High running the same jump program as our High School or are the kids just coming into the gym and throwing it down??
  14. From what I know of it's before the season starts. I want to say that I remember hearing a few years ago in the 2006 season that we practiced with a team (may have been Liberty), but I'm not promising anything.
  15. Our team still has a lot of upside after this year, but we're going to need someone to grow! Tevin Bryson (freshman) needs to lose some weight, but he's already 6'2 and has a bunch of growing to do. If he loses at least 20 pounds before next season, he'll be a good low post player and will allow Dunbar to get out around the 3-point line. Height is the main thing I'm worried about next year. Other than that, we're set at guard play /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  16. We can beg on a website all we want to in order to see Humboldt scrimmage Northside, Liberty, Bolivar, or even Dyer Co. before the tournament, but it's not going to happen. If it does happen, it will go on behind closed doors I'm sure. I really wish we could've seen this team play any of those teams, but I don't see us doing that this year.
  17. I know Tevin had 20 after the 3rd...I was sitting by the writer for the Humboldt Chronicle and he was keeping up with it. Humboldt played a great game, and they surprised me with no press. I was glad we didn't press! I did see more from Avery this game, meaning his outside game, but I agree with Bigster. He stayed out around the arch the whole time looking for the easy 3. The dunks this game were sick, especially the one Quan (#23) had on the break away. Once Charles dunked on Avery and got the and 1 at the beginning of the game, I could tell that we were ready for this game. Lake Co. made that comeback and cut it to 3 at half, but by winning the battle in the 3rd and going up by 11 is what won it. Lake Co. came out in the 3rd and didn't have the intensity I thought they would have after cutting the game to just 3. Also, with 4:23 left before halftime, Humboldt was up 39-21...at halftime the score was 39-36. Great game though Lake Co., see you in districts! P.S.: Loved Coach B.'s Red and Gold suit tonight!
  18. Please quit posting Manassas vs. Humboldt and Reginald Buckner vs. Taylor and Crayton...do it on another topic. Unless you're illiterate, you should see that the title of this topic is "Humboldt @ Lake Co." I say Humboldt wins this one by 7. One thing that Humboldt has done after the first matchup is that we have started running the pick and roll with Charles and Tevin. This is going to work out great, especially if we can get Dunbar to draw Avery away from the basket. If Lake Co. is running zone, then I'm hoping Rashad, Tevin, and Charles will get started early from 3 and shoot them out of it or have Charles flash at the free-throw line. The only way this game is a blow out in Humboldt's favor is if Avery gets in foul trouble.
  19. It would be different if we were playing these teams and winning by 10 points or less... Anyway, the LAKE CO. VS. HUMBOLDT game is less than 57 hours away! I'll be at the gym at about a quarter til 6 because I'm guessing that it will be a packed house!
  20. I really hope that neither one of us gets upset in regionals and play both MC and Manassas in substate and put out both of them!
  21. It would be different if we had close games against these teams also.............
  22. Great job for coming to the wrong game genius...I was also there and 3 of our players didn't dress out who play. The kids who came in the 4th are all freshmen and only one of them gets playing time. Come to Lake Co. whenever we play them and you'll see both team's best players and depth.
  23. Humboldt beat Halls tonight 85-42...we started off with the press as always and went up 12-4 in the first minute or two and then we fell back to man...we brought in our 2nd string during the middle of the first but the 2nd string couldn't get it going. Halls cut it to an 8-10 point ball game in the beginning of the 2nd so Coach B put back in the starters. The starters and normal subs played out through the first half and started the 2nd half, then the 2nd string came back in and finally started clicking. 3rd string came in midway through the 4th and finished out the game on a 12-2 run. Coach B dressed out 6-7 freshmen during this game and the entire 3rd string he put in at the end were freshmen.
  24. We won't have a problem at ALL and i'm the least worried about this! Trust me, our bench players will get plenty of playing time.
