  1. Sorry Pageman, wasnt trying to be smart. Completely understood and definately excused.
  2. I agree no parent should go on the field, but I guess the Loretto parents feel different. A ballgame is the kids' time to shine, not the umpire's, coaches' or the parents'. The umpiring for the MC GC game was pretty bad both ways, considering they were two of the most expirienced umpires in this district. Pageman, I 100% agree with you, it's a hard job that I couldn't do and I applaud thier efforts. Coach Mark Cardin is the head coach at Giles Co.
  3. Thanks for the posts Pageman. I think the fielding was the diference, but I also think you have to give the gamebreaker to Edgmon.
  4. Can these two teams meet and nothing happen? Really, I havent seen a clean game in years between these teams. If we want to talk about home-cooking, we could talk about every team left in this district tourne. Isn't that some of the point of home-field? You say Miles is from Pulaski, but I guess you don't know how bad he loves to screw Giles Co. He's done it for years, and may be last night he had a "bad game". As far as the parent goes, I wont say who because the player cant help what his parents do. Let the games be played, and the winners and losers decided. In no game so far have the umpires completely changed the outcome of the game. Champions overcome controversy, losers dwell on it.
  5. What a Battle! That is the way baseball should be. Great pitchers against great pitchers, play for play these two teams played their hearts out. It came down to who wanted it the most, GC.
  6. The "bob-kittens" beat the mustangs, in a disorderly, non-defensive game. Giles made a ton of errors while Sanderson stayed focused and did his job. In a game where one of the umpires didnt see a play that happened, a parent charged the field after the opposing coach, and there was constant crying in one dug-out, Buttrum pitched well, and Loretto's d looked ok. Could be interesting how this tourne turns out.
  7. Sounds like Lewis played really well, with Loretto only scoring four runs, Lewis' pitcher must have pitched a good game. Glad you're so excited to go to GC. Don't know of anyone that's ever been that happy to go there... for baseball or any other activity.
  8. I see this series going every way. If Holley is on when its his night to pitch, Giles will have a good chance. Both teams have had their ups and downs. We shall see!
  9. Sounds like a domination by MC?

Gobble may be down but dont count Loretto out. They scrap, and dont ever forget the greediness of Coach Lamb. Marshall's coaches are smart, but Ole' Gary could be on the verge of passing them in the category of simply making his team win. I give MC at least one win, but I'd say when Glass pitches, Loretto has the upper hand that game. This district is apperaing to come down to two teams, Mc and Gc, which will meet in the last week. Just my opinion. Anyone else's?

    umps?

When I said bat i was just giving an example. I also didnt mean strikes or balls, out or safe. I know judgement calls are just that, judgement. I was meaning making calls to say "I'm the umpire", instead of understanding that this is the kid's time and not theirs. No one comes to the game to watch the umpire. As I said, I fully respect the job they do and appreciate it, because it gave me and will give my son a chance to play this great game.

Right now I'd have to say Marshall 1st, Giles 2nd, and Loretto 3rd.

    umps?

I understand umpires make mistakes. It is upsetting when there's a disagreement, but the game will go on, the next play will happen, and I'll get over it. I've umpired Little League and Babe Ruth, no piece of cake by any measure, but I always feared the day I took the bat out of the kids hands, and made the game my decision, and not his. In high school, there are 9 positions, 9 players, and those players, and their talent/effort should be the deciding factor in games. Not the coach or the umpire. I do admire and respect umps for the job they do. Good job Blues!
  14. Very exicted to see these games also! What about the schedule this year(meaning the back-to-back district games)? I like the scheduling because it makes you have more than one pitcher to win, but I'm afraid it may have made this district too even. Your thoughts?
  15. At this point, there is one major surprise, Page. Better than I expected. A couple of minor surprises, Loretto and their offense, Gobble is blasting the ball. Marshall and Stolz, he may be the real ace. Giles and offense and defense, where did the offense go and where did the defense come from?
  16. Tyler Played all four years at GCHS, and then went on to Hargrave Academy in Chatham, VA. His Soph. year he was a state champion as well as tourne MVP. He went to Hargrave for two reasons. 1st he did not want to play for Pearl because Pearl would not promise him a starting spot, 2nd, afterwhich he had decided not to attend UT, he became academically inelgible anyways. Smith and Chism met one time, in 2003, with GCHS winning. Tyler's Jun year, GC played Jackson NS(I believe) and was defeated, and his Senior year they lost to Humbolt, both losses coming in Sub-state. Tyler has been successful at Iowa, although he should have kept his intentions with UT. I've always pondered his decision to go to UT in the first place and not a basketball school like Duke or UNC. If you argue that Wayne is on Tyler's level, good luck finding facts. Tyler won one championship, while wayne won 3, but look at the surrounding team. If you are not from Giles County, or the immediate surrounding area, and can name me aother player off of that team that year, I'll give you a cookie. I am from GC, therefore biased, but I know a couple of players from Bolivar for the three championship years, and know that although GC had some talented athletes, Bolivar was better all around.
  17. What's the predictions? Schedules?

Come to a Giles Co. baseball game, and you'll learn two things. Who I am, and the rest of Giles Co.'s team.

Look at the stats, 0-5, 5 k's. 3 innings pitched, 1 k, 4 walks, if my memory is correct. Sorta hard to earn a starting position when you don't practice til March 1, and then don't learn the signals. As far as playing at the next level, take it from mreverything who knows what it takes to play there. Who am I? Good question. May be if you ever came to a Giles Co. baseball game, you'd know. If given the opportunity? He's been given many, since his Soph. year. If you watched him during the week instead of at church, you'd know. Ralph's a good kid, don't get me wrong. Just sorta tired of you bashing the whole Giles Co. team and COACH. This isn't about him as much as it is you. As I've said before, I know why you're for him, but what about the rest of this team. Ralph Garrett will contribute, no doubt. But instead of choosing one player out and cheering for him only, why don't you make it an effort to cheer the whole team on, and make appearnces at baseball games like you do basketball. Otherwise, please don't lower the reputation of Giles Co. fans on here by posting about one player and then lying about how good he really is. We're not coaches, but you are, and out of all the losing seasons you've had, football and basketball, no one writes an article in the paper about how you didn't play someone.

I mentioned his offensive game because you said how great of an outfielder he is. You do have to have an offensive game to move on at that position. I've never seen you at any of the games, and I know you don't see him play very much unless it was in your church league. When he was given the chance to pitch? He pitched 3 innings, and did ok. I know exactly why you're for Garrett, and it's making you look silly. I agree with mreverything, stick to basketball posting.

Isn't Ralph Garrett still playing basketball? Will he really go to the next level? And by motive for playing him, what do you mean? How about his offensive game?
  22. Winning or losing, the benchmob is always rowdy. When you have the whole student body in uniform, a theme for each game, leaders that pass it down, and above all, a tradition that is feared by people who really know, talk to us.
  23. The Voice of Reason says... The Benchmob dominates. They've been around forever, handed down class by class, generation by generation. At Giles Co. #'s mean nothing, they're all heart. And no other section has a human siren!

I don't think Lintz played in Nashville for better chances of a college education. My thoughts from what I know about him is that he wanted to play on a better team. Winning that championship this summer is not that impressive because I saw them play a few teams that were otherwise no good, and Marshall's team lost.
