  1. Dins8- What a great topic!! I thank you for putting this info out there for everyone to read!! I think you have a great handle on the way things are. The notion that there are a lot of "D1" players in this area is unrealistic. Yes, there are some great players in the area and the state, but to play at the speed that "good" D1 schools do is simply amazing! Most players in this area have never seen that type of speed!! I don't mean how fast a person can run- by speed I mean the whole package. Moving, trapping, passing- making runs. The state simply doesn't have that yet. Also, you touched on the other types of schools, D2, D3, etc. I think the quality and type of team is more important than if they are a D1 school. What good does a player get out of going to a school that is out of the ability. You use Kyle Franklin as an example. That, is a great example to use. I watched him play over the years...yes, he was a great player, all the skills, he was fast....the problem is the game gets WAY, WAY faster. Going to D1 was not a good idea! Imagine if he went to a smaller school with a quality program. He would be playing and enjoying soccer just like he always had before. I think that players that truely love soccer, want to be able to play. After high-school there is no one else to impress with the whole "D1" status. At a truely competative D1 school, your local reputation means absolutely nothing! If you are a young player and want to play at the next level- be honest with yourself- you are all that matters!! As far as your impressions of those players you mentioned--I think only Tarr has a chance at the D1 level. I wonder if he is strong enough and has the physical size to compete? He was always so much faster than everyone else- but now the others are catching up to him!! I think he is bored at the speed of play, it is less than his competative team and I think that is a problem! Watching high-school after seeing college games takes adjustment for me....I can imagine what it does to a great player!! Also, don't think that smaller schools do not offer great programs! There are players from all areas- NAIA to D1 that make it to the pro level!
  2. Hey "On the Pitch"...thanks for the reply. At least someone read it! Just to clear a fewwthings up...I am not a negative person, I just made a negative comment!! I was just a little let down after seeing a great game and nothing in the local paper! Also, my comments about the Farragut coach was not meant to criticize him, I was using Blah, blah, and then with regards to West High, etc, etc. as to the things coaches always seem to say. It is usually the same thing about the other team being great and so on and so forth. Those things mean nothing to me. What I would like to know is- how the game went and which kids played a great game. Most of the coaches in this area will tell you that the paper usually prints something a little differently than what they actually say. I want to hear about the PLAYERS...they make the game what it is! I think a little recognition for them isn't to much to ask for. Especially since soccer is by far the most successful sport for the Knoxville area!! By the way, there was recently a great article about the BeardenVS. Oak Ridge game. Maybe they are trying a little harder. I hope they keep it up as ther are some great games coming up!!!
  3. There is a freshman at Oak Ridge- he is their outside mid- His first name is Aaron...don't know the last name. He is a very good player- well poised for his age and considering the position he plays, I was very impressed. Oak Ridge has a strong team. If anyone knows his full name please post it. I would like to watch this kid as the years go by. He should be amazing in a few years!!
  4. I am not "hatin" on anyone- and I do believe that he is a great player. The fact is that him being" freakin real" will cause some player to be out for the season when they get in a "real" fist-fight for trying to duck under a player as they jump for a header. I can see when these things happen accidentially, however, ducking under someone while they are in the air and then stepping into that player while they are above them is intentional. I have seen it done 4 times. It is such a concern for me that I warned the Houston coach about it and he told his players to be aware of it. Sure enough, he did it again...and when he did the Houston coach was yelling about it. Rightfully so!! My own son will be playing soon and I can tell you that he has seen this- and if this happens to a teammate of his, it will be his last game of the season. I fully expect that the insueing fight that it will cause will be one to remember. I just know that this type of play ends up seriously injuring someone. At this point it is a matter of when, instead of if someone gets injured. What happens when someone tries and do the same thing in return?? This causes nothing but disaster and is terrible for soccer. It has to stop!!
  5. OOPS!!!! Farragut was 0-0-2. They had 2 ties, no losses.
  6. What a great tournament!! No one came out winning all their games. Here are the results: Morristown West-1 Maryville-0 Farragut-2 West-2 Bearden-2 Catholic-1 Farragut-0 McMinn County-0 Morristown West-1 Catholic-0 Maryville-6 McMinn County-0 West-2 Gallatin-1 Notre Dame-1 Clarksville-0 Houston-2 Bearden-1 Maryville-2 Notre Dame-2 Catholic-1 Mcminn County-1 Gallatin-1 Morristown West-0 West-3 Houston-2 Bearden-6 Clarksville-0 Gallatin-2 McMinn County-0 Catholic-2 Houston-1 Maryville-6 Clarksville-0 Morristown West-1 West-1 Beraden-1 Notre Dame-0 Fianl records are so follows: Bearden 3-1 Notre Dame 1-1-1 West 2-0-2 Catholis 1-2-1 Marryville 2-1-1 McMinn County 0-2-2 Morristown West 2-1-1 Houston 1-2 Gallatin 2-1 Farragut 0-2 Notre Dame 1-1-1- Clarksville 0-3 Catholic 1-2-1 It was a great tournament!!
  7. West came to this game ready to play. They just plain out-hustled Houston. It looked like Houston was having a good time goofing off before the game. I believe that they thought West would simply lye down and get beat. This team appears to be highly motivated and is not to be taken lightly!!! I bet the next team that plays them realizes that they are a very good team!! One thing that is very unfortunate was that number 4 on their team (West)- they called him Cat..?? That kid ducks under any kid who goes up for a header- I saw him do this in the CAK game 3 times and he did it again today to a Houston player. While players may think this is a good decision, this can be extremely dangerous and life threatening. This can not be allowed at any level. Someone will either get hurt by this kid or someone will hurt him for being stupid. The ref in this game was not very good at all! Thsi kind of play MUST be controlled.
  8. I wanted to add something that I forgot completely. The referee for the game between Bearden and Houston was absolutely outstanding!!! He had complete control of the game and was right where he should be! If anyone knows his name please post it!! Also, where would you send in favorable, as well as "not so favorable", replys about refs!! There seems to be a lot of discussion about the lack of quality in referee's. This one happened to be exceptional, and someone needs to know about it. This would be a great ref to see in the State Championship's!!! Any info would be appreciated!!
  9. Notre Dame-1 Clarksville-0 Houston-2 Bearden-1 The Houston-Bearden was a great game! Bearden should have had 4 goals in the first half!! Had the ball inside of 3 yds, 3 times and couldn't finish!! Houston made them pay for it. Score was 1-1 at half. Houston scored off af a direct kick- and "Directly" blasted it in the net! A geat shot!! For Bearden, Tom Webster carried, turned and blasted one in the net- a great play. The last goal was scored by Houston's forward. He basically dribbled past every defender and left the keeper watching...................goal!! Bearden tried to counter but kept missing!! It was a great game, probably 2 of the teams that will be in the final 8 at State!! Could be the game.....time will tell. The rest of the tournament will be great. I will see every game....it's good to be me!! Congrats to Houston, a great team that makes very few mistakes!! I look forward to seeing them play West High. That should be a good challenge for West. I don't believe anyone can beat Houston in this tournament!! Good luck to West!!
  10. Yes.....the Farragut Vs McMinn County game was 0-0. I must have lost my mind for a moment!! Thanks for the correction. Games tonight....so far Morristown West -1 Catholic-0 (I had said earlier that M West would be good!!) Marryville- 6 McMinn County-0 (they must be tired from the Farragut game!!) Notre Dame-1 Clarksville-0 AT THE HALF!!!! this ain't done yet- sop far N Dame is dominating!! Don't know the Gallatin Vs West score- if anyone has it- please post! The Bearden VS Houston game won't start till 10:00 p.m...aprox.?? I will post that score when the game is done! So far this has been a very good tournament!!!
  11. results so far: Morristown West -1 Maryville-0 Bearden 2 Catholic-1 Farragut 2 West-2 Farragut-2 McMinn County-2
  12. This article to about newspaper reports. I like to see them and read them. After the Farragut Vs West game, I read a nice article in the Knoxville News Sentinel. It was fairly descriptive....I got to hear Wally state how Spring Break hurt them, blah blah, ba, blah.. Got to hear how great West was, etc, etc. So I was looking forward to the report of the Catholic Vs Bearden game.. Hey, guess what.......nothing. Nada, zilch. It is typical!! Catholic and Bearden got no mention and it was probably the best game of the year so far. 2 great teams, both having chances to win, with a last minute goal an a rarely seen assist from a keeper, over one of the best other keepers in the state!! I am more than a little ticked off that this game received no mention. Knoxville News Sentinel, you should wake up and be fair. I will be willing to bet that on Friday the Farragut Vs McMinn County game gets mention. Also the CAK Vs West game will definitely be in there! The Sentinel owes an explanation to someone. This is not right!!!! Opinions please!!!!
  13. I agree...Farragut can't be happy with a tie against West. How West finishes will be interesting. I think the tie will be a great motivation......I would hate to be McMinn County!!! I say Farragut by 4. I will see part of the game!! I agree...Farragut can't be happy with a tie against West. How West finishes will be interesting. I think the tie will be a great motivation......I would hate to be McMinn County!!! I say Farragut by 4. I will see part of the game!!
  14. I totally agree... Walker may score a goal on one of those kicks!! For the keeper to get an assist is amazing- what a kick and well timed by Zivi to finish!! The shot by Trombley (? spelling) in the first half from Catholic was an absolute blast!! It was from 35 + yds out. Perfect placement!! Wow!! Then Radcliff hit almost the same shot- another blast- DeRosa got a hand on it, but that didn't matter!! I thought that Catholic played a great style of soccer, their movement with the ball is impressive, as their whole team is great. Bearden just plain had to much power- their style is to attack and attack and attack... it's relentless. Their defense is going to be tough for anyone to beat, with the exception of that blast from mid-field they didn't have nearly as many goal opportunities as Bearden. Still...a great game....either team could end up a champion!! This really adds to the CAK- Catholic game! There has to be some way to change the game between Bearden vs Farragut and Catholic vs CAK- I believe they are at the exact same time. Is there any way to alter the times, date, ....Something??? How about it Big G?? Knoxville needs to see both games- not have to choose between them!! It's not fair to the fans!!!!!! HEELLLLLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I don't think they can win the State- but I think they have a good chance to win their region and surprise someone and get to the round of 8. A couple of things to think about: 1. Lenior City is a better team than most believe- all because of an 8-0 loss to Farragut. That was not your average 8-0 game. Yes, by the score it was a drubbing, but they didn't play that badly and Farragut couldn't miss the goal. As proof that that doesn't always happen- look to last night's game when Farragut played West and DID miss the goal. That could have been 5-2 Farragut, but a few near misses make the difference. Take Lenior City litely and they will beat you. See what happens later in the season with that team! 2. Farragut better get focused or this will not be a pleasant year!! 10 seniors means nothing to an opponent, and all the hype has never helped anyone win a game- I believe it has the opposite effect! The sad thing is that I don't believe Farragut started the hype. Just let them play and they will be fine!!
  16. I agree...this is a tough tournament. There are a lot of teams that will be playing in the State Tournament. More than likely, the team that wins it will have at least 1 loss. It is still early and teams haven't found there stride yet. One thing about Bearden's record last year that most people don't know is- they had just lost there best player, he was made in-eligible a few weeks before this tournament. Bearden had to change their whole style of play, and that took time for them to adjust. After that tournament they only lost 2 games to whole season and won the championship. This year, they haven't had those disruptions to deal with. For that reason, I think they (Bearden) will win it all. They must get past Catholic first- and that is not an easy task!! It should be a great game!! I watched Maryville Vs Morristown West last night. I thought the ref was decent, but Maryville got most every call until late in the second half. Morristown could have had 3 goals in the first half. They had the keeper on the ground and the ball inside the 6yd box 2 times and couldn't finish. Maryville played better in the last 10 minutes of the 1st half- otherwise I thought M West dominated play. The 2nd half was pretty even- Maryville certainly had their chances- they could have won this game. Its all about finishing!!! Neither team could. M West managed the win 1-0 in a good game. For Maryville, the kid in the middle named Large played a great game- he is dangerous. On defense the kid named Pugh made no mistakes that I saw and started every play with very good passing- I was impressed by this kid and he is a sophmore. Maryville has a very young team- I believe they will be a force- if not this year, the next 2 look bright for them!!! Morristown West- a team that I said earlier in the pre-season, will make it to State- They are that good!! when they finish, they will be a tough team for anyone- good balance all over!! Good luck to both teams the rest of the year!!!!!
  17. This is unusual....however, by rule, when the time is up- the game is over. As stupid as it seems, if the ball is kicked from 40 yds out and the time ends while the ball is in the air and then goes in, the goal doesn't count. That is the letter of the law, the spirit of the law would be to let play continue until the play is over. I guess at 5-1 the ref figured that ...down to the exact second he would end it- maybe he had not kept time and realized he was already over! It sure would make a lot of people mad. Sometimes common sense is better than anything else.
  18. This is a great point...The lack of press. I see all kinds of articles about baseball and softball, but very little about soccer (I am speaking of the Knoxville area). In this area, there has been far more championship from soccer than any other sport- yet very little coverage!! That stinks!! The only way to change it is too contact the local papers! This is true of the rest of the state also. It is annoying to read about a sport where fat kids who can't run more than 50 yds without needing oxygen, get headlines!
  19. With the game at Farragut...... I say Farragut 5 -West 1
  20. I will see you guys play! Thanks for the info.
  21. Akula...I look forward to seeing Alcoa play a game. I think it is great that they are making a name for themselves. Also, the Blount County Tournament is a great idea. Hopefully, some people in the County will take an interest and see how exciting as game can be. Good luck this season. As far as your statement about Carter High...it will be interesting to see them when they play a good team! They should schedule as many as they can and get used to the better competition ASAP!! I know that most of the Carter High players went to a camp at the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky. This is ran by Paulo Neto and is a fantastic camp for teams to go to. My youngest son's competative team went and they loved it. Good luck Carter!!!
  22. I would like to know if there were 2 refs or 3 in this game. I know nothing about this situation, other than what is posted, but I would think that something like this gets by easily with only 2 refs. If anyone knows, please inform us. By the way, I hate a game that only has 2 refs...it shouldn't be allowed- especially when post-season comes around!
  23. I heard the goals came from a PK for Father Ryan, a corner kick that was untouched- bent right in the upper corner. Another goal came with the keeper having the ball in his hands and was knocked in the goal by a defender...while he had the ball. ??? Any other reports would be welcomed!! Beardens D is very, very good! We'll see how many goals are scored from here out!! Also- Father Ryan and Independence are both very good teams!!
  24. Thanks Big G....that does explain it! That makes it more difficult! Good against the Georgia teams. Are they away or home??
