  1. Yes, his control of all his pitches is very impressive. I think that is the first time anyone has understood, or at least commented on, my alias! That show is hilarious!
  2. Nothing is impossible, but scoring 7 off this kid is as close as you can get to impossible in high school baseball. I've seen him a few time this year, and I've yet to see him give up an earned run. He has been dominant every time out! When I saw him he was pitching against the likes of Covington(twice) and Bartlett, and these are two of the best teams in their respective classes in west TN. I just wish this game wasn't so far from home for me. Good luck, but you can pretty much forget about many crooked numbers with Gant on the mound!!!
  3. I'm sorry, I worded that kind of vaguely. I meant, as necvol said, only one team Ripley or USJ will be able to advance. By the way, the weather is definitely not cooperating with the tournament schedule today. Lots of rain already, should be tough to get a 6:00 game in tonight.
  4. I guess I'm the only one who thinks this is a big deal. Gant looks like a great pitcher. He'll only get better with age. That was a tough loss last night. Covington is a great team though, and they usually capitalize on mistakes. Good luck , and I wouldn't count on many more losses in this kid's career. Very bright future for sure!! What time is the game tonight?
  5. Great game to CHS and USJ last night! I thought Burdette pitched a whale of a game against a very good team. Delashmit had a very solid game, as did Mathis. As for Gant, you couldn't have asked for him to do anymore. At one point, in the middle of the game, he looked like a college pitcher pitching to a high school team. There is no disrespect whatsoever directed at Covington in that statement. I think he struck out something like 6 men in a row in the 5th and 6th innings. Pitched out of trouble in the 1st. Gave his team a chance to get out of trouble again in the 2nd. He got stronger as the game went on. Had USJ tied it, it would have been very tough for Covington to get any more runs. Sorry to see him get his first loss like that. Good luck vs. Ripley tonight! Until the Delashmit double play in the 6th, the momentum was on USJ's side even while they were trailing. You can credit that to the starting pitcher in my opinion. What's a shame is that only one of the teams will advance out of the region!!
  6. Very impressed!! Extremely quick bat. He hit one that was behind him last night.lol Tremendous arm, and very accurate last night. Doubt he'll catch at the next level, but versatility never hurts. Heads up ballplayer, and very prepared to play. I was also surprised not to see Memphis at that game. Don't know why they passed this one up.
  7. Glad I didn't miss the best game all year!! 2-0 USJ in a pitchers duel right to the end. Shawn did throw the ball very well last night. He gave his team a chance to win. This makes the second time I've seen Gant pitch. If anyone doesn't get it after last night, here it is. Fastball with pinpoint control, probably flirted with 90 last night. Threw harder last night than when I saw him in Covington. Hard, quick slider, and a very well thrown change-up. Once again, I was amazed by this kid's poise on the hill. When errors were made, he shrugged them off. I bet he throws a pitch every 10 seconds. Nothing but good things to say. Threw any pitch in any count. He even threw several fastballs right by Bartlett in fastball counts. From what I've seen this year, Bartlett is a very good offensive team!! Bottom line, I've seen all the teams around here, and there isn't one guy in Memphis that has a better chance of beating any team in the state than this kid. I read the shots at his age earlier. That is uncalled for but, it doesn't matter. Don't be surprised to see him getting paid real soon. Good luck the rest of the way, USJ should do well. They look like they know how to win. Also, good luck to Bartlett and other area teams. Should be a very exciting post season!!
  8. I'd sure love to see that game. I'll try my best to make it!! Got some family coming in, but I'm not sure when they'll be here. Thanks for the post though. Anyone who's in the area will get a treat out of this game. USJ looks solid, and Bartlett is very good as well(one of the best coached teams around!!). Are you sure Gant is throwing? I'll bet it's a close game.
  9. You guys are quoting my kind of movies!! I liked what I saw out of USJ earlier in the year. Covington is also going to be tough to beat. Their pitching is very solid. Mathis is extremely hard to handle! Wish the tournament was in Memphis again this year.
  10. Any chance USJ will be around Memphis any time soon. I'd love to see them play again. I would have guessed Gant in the mid 80's upper 80's at times. I guess I'm not as old as I thought!! Glad to hear about the attention he is getting. From the one game I saw it is well deserved! No doubt one of the best overall pitchers I've seen in a while. Good luck the rest of the way!!!
  11. I can't believe no one is mentioning Gant at USJ. I saw him pitch one game at Covington, and I was sold!!! Then I saw him on the cover of "On the Ball" magazine. I would say he has more poise than anyone in the state,or at least the guys I've seen. Excellent control of all three pitches the night I saw him dominate a very good Covington team. Has he started to fade or something? I thought there would be a lot more buzz about him on this specific thread. I know flukes happen, but the overwhelming outing I saw would have to be the fluke of the century if he's not continuing to pitch very well!!
  12. This thread was started for the purpose of giving information on a baseball game. There is no reason to start with all the mud slinging again. Forget politics, and for once let's talk about how a sophomore pitcher totally dominated a very good AA baseball club.
  13. Glad to hear he is a hard worker, because there is no substitute for that. Being 6'5'' might get him a look or two. SEC schools definitely do not take blind looks at some one because they're tall. If they are looking, they've heard something interesting. Good luck!!
