    DC ???

I didn't know that you were an english major. I think the way you used it, it's effecting not affecting. And I hate to disagree with you, because you have a great post. But, it was Hopkins who shaped up the Dyer County girls program. If Coffman has any bad traits he got them from Butch uh?
  2. There is more than just the spring scrimmage with Milan. Dyer County played Courtney Jones without a physical. They did call Covington and were told that Courtney did have a physical, but did not fax the paper work. This, however was not totally Butch's fault. Maybe the fine could be something like this: bottom seed in the district tournament, Butch being fined maybe $500.00 to $1,000.00 which would go to the TSSAA, not to coach two games. I don't think he should resign period. He has meant too much to the basketball program at Dyer County. Like him or not. The TSSAA wants him out, no doubt about it! But, I can't think of any time in the history of TSSAA that a coach has been asked to step down for a violation of this type. After all look at Melrose and what they did in football. The TSSAA only knows one side of Butch Hopkins. The Brentwood situation does have any barring on this violation, but it will effect high sports in Tennessee.
  3. Way to go Trojans....and way to go J. Taylor.
  4. So what you're saying is that you think Hopkins should resign? If his reputation is so bad, I can't see why Dyer County has had only four violations in his 9 year tenure. Dyersburg has had more than that...it's just that the penalities weren't as severe. You could probably ask three kids on Dyer County's team and get the same type of response. I know Dyersburg talks with County kids, because they have to have them in order to compete. I know that former coaches at Dyersburg have been told this. All the talking that's going on is just a matter of who you're going to believe. And since Hopkins has a bad reputation you're going to believe someone else. I'm heavily involved in this profession too and I along with the kids of DC and 99% of fans don't want to see him resign. When Butch took this job he was told by several coaches that he couldn't win at Dyer County. Maybe Dyer County is not supposed to win.
  5. Hey, you're right...how stupid does one have to be. The main reason Dyer Co. has been successful in basketball has not been the recruiting. Jon Morris, Perry Powell, Montrelle Crittenden, and Brian Fisk all came from the north end of the County. All coaches try to get the best players. I, too have talked to other coaches...and know for a fact that Whitby, Brown (gone in their house) and even Counce (Halls) has asked players from other areas to come play for them. I will be the first to say that Butch has his fault's, but then we all do. I still say that the penalities handed down to Dyer County was not equal to what other schools have received for the same violations. I just like to watch good basketball. I try to back all the teams in the District...Martin, Union City, Westview, Gibson Co. and Dyer County. We have a great distric for basketball and football.
  6. If you break a rule or law it's going to effect more than just you! A rule is a rule and a law is a law. Look, Butch has been at Dyer Co. nine years. And there's been only four violations. And since Brentwood won it's lawsuit, the bus incident om null and void. That leaves three. Three in the history of the school. Where this thing is wrong has been the penalities handed down by the TSSAA.
  7. I agree with you that someone should not be punished just because "everyone else does it." But, let's look at the infractions. First there was the bus ride with the eighth grader, which Dyer County reported itself. Then there was the fight with Obion County, which was just as much one's fault as it was the other's. And the officials as well as the school staff did as good of job as could be done in taking care of the situation. Then there was the Courtney Jones deal. His father, who is now employed in the Dyer County School System, called and talked with TSSAA officials and was told everything was good to go. And finally the fouth: the scrimmage with Milan in the spring, which was a violation of the self-imposed saction. That's four violations, the only four in the history of the school. And the TSSAA wants the coach to resign? Let's look at some violations of other schools and the penalities. What about Memphis Melrose and the football violations? How bad was their penalty? Dyersburg girls practiced during the "dead period", they called the TSSAA and report themselves (no penalty for that one). Dyersburg had two fights last year in basketball and one in baseball and only had to pay the fine and the usual sit out period. When Dyer County had their fight the couldn't host the sub-state plus the fine and sit-out period. Again that was the first fight in the history of the school. And here's one more (and I could tell you a lot more) The Dyersburg baseball team had a eight grade athletic ride the bus to their baseball games. They say he was their batboy! Dyer County is guilty no doubt about it, but the penalties should all be the same, not because someone has a personal vendetta against someone. In other words "No double standards"
  8. Bolivar defeat Melrose 71 to 68
  9. Dyer Co. defeated Maplewood 67 to 60. Ronald Taylor had 20, and Ricardo Griffey had 18 for the Panthers.
  10. If you're going to get on this board just to bash someone, why don't get their email address. Then you bash each other all you want. And leave this what it's suppose to be...a basketball board.
  11. He was asked to resign by the Superintendent. Not by the Principal. This is just an opinion, but I don't think anyone at the school wants Butch to resign. It all involves the scrimmage with Milan, coupled with last year's bus ride and maybe the fight with Obion County. Butch has probably not done anymore than any other West Tennessee coach, but he has always been under the watchful eye of the TSSAA. Butch has turned in a letter of resignation to the principal. It is supposed to take effect after the Christmas Tournament. To my understanding the TSSAA at this point has not acted on any of the charges. I understand that the charges have come from two schools in the area at the urging of another. I hope that this answers your question. I for one hope that he stays, he has mean a lot to the boys and girls of Dyer County.
  12. I still can't understand why he has to step down. The TSSAA has not put out anything on the scrimmage with Milan. Courtney Jones has already sit out the required number of games. Granted Butch held a scrimmage during a time in which he said that he wouldn't, but to force him to resign or to keep the school from post season play? Isn't that little harse? I mean, look at what some other schools have done. Covington has had more than their share of infractions. And to bring an eighth grade student to a early morning shoot around at the high school and then take her back to school. (and there is proof of this) Are those not violations? Of course they are. They have just not been told on. Maybe if the DC administration won't act of some of these infractions, maybe someone else should go to the TSSAA. Infractions of TSSAA rules can be turned in by anybody, not just school officials. I for one am not ready to say goodbye to Butch just yet!

  14. TW that was the best post that I have ever seen on this site. It is also the saddest. Butch brought a winning tradition to Dyer County. Whoever takes his place might walk in footsteps, but will NEVER fill his shoes. It won't be the adults that will miss him, but the kids of Dyer County will. The ones who disliked Butch are the ones who never saw the other side of Butch Hopkins. Thanks, Butch for giving me the opportunity to work with you the last 9 years. Man, what a ride!
  15. I know the answer. I just wanted to see if you did. Did you even look at your watch?
  16. Did any of the scrimmage occur during the last period of school?
  17. Well then if you were there from what time to what time the scrimmage take place?
  18. How do you know I wasn't there? Maybe you don't know the whole story.
  19. In all probility Butch will be gone after the holidays. It's a shame, but the TSSAA wants him gone. Here's how they got the film of the Milan scrimmage. Milan coach did not film the scrimmage, but apparently a parent did. Someone called Jim Towater (who by the way used to be employed by Dyersburg) to see if he could come up with a video. He apparently did and mailed it to Dyersburg or to Covington. Someone is now accusing DC of Courtney Jones practicing without a physical. This will go on and on until Butch is gone. I think it is time for Dyer County's superintendent to stand up for his people. In the history of the TSSAA I can't think of a time that they have asked a coach to step down. Dr. Hedge knows what Dyersburg has done and has the prove. What's he afraid of. If he doesn't do something maybe the school board will. Maybe it's time to put the city school system and the county school system under one umbrella. That way maybe the playing field will be even.
  20. Doesn't really matter if DCHS is looking for a new BBcoach..If he wins and get's a lot of press. They'll turn him in too for something. When DCHS get's back up in football they'll get them too! People outside of Dyersburg and Dyer County don't really understand what's going on between these two schools. DCHS has dominated in sports over the past three years, plus the new state of the art high school doesn't help the situation. Dyersburg is not used to playing second fiddle. They can't stand it! And it's a shame, because after Friday night it could very well be the last meeting between these two schools.
  21. Oak Ridge sounds a little like Dyersburg. One of the best Private publically funded school systems in the state.
  22. So Montrelle couldn't play for Dyersburg, but he could play for MTSU. They seem to want him.
  23. When have you ever kept your mouth shut? But, I agree with you. These treads have been pasted and emailed to the TSSAA. And unlike Overtime's tread there is some proof. And contrary to popular belief there are some Choctaw friends among the coaching and adminstration ranks that will come to their aid.

  25. Do you really think that Brown would cut Montrelle if he had him on his team?
