  1. Is Coach Charlie Bayless still manning the paddles on the sidelines?
  2. A.W. Davis and Skylar McBee have been mentioned from the Rutledge/Grainger side of things, but one that hasn't been is Kip Combs. He played in the years just before the 3-point shot was instituted and was regularly knocking down 25-footers for Rutledge while averaging 24 per game over the course of the last two years he played. A.W. was at one time the record holder for single game, season and career points...all before the 3-point line and before some other great shooters from all over the state got in on the act.
  3. That's true, but the thread is about East TN shooters...not all of TN shooters.
  4. I'd have a hard time with Aaron Greene on this list. He was a really good high school player, but he was a streaky shooter. I saw him in the state tournament a few times and he was more of a distributor than a shooter. He could shoot it don't get me wrong, but in comparison to everyone else listed he's a little out of place.
  5. Losses are not the end of the world...having heard a report on the game Claiborne shot 40 free throws...at Grainger. The teams combined for 67 free throws. The refs need to let 'em play...that's ridiculous.
  6. Grainger's gym is freakin' sweet!
  7. Agreed on Washburn...very outdated. Bleachers on one side, players on the other. Not too many seats. A small school, but still not very well thought out when it was constructed. Just another reason why the folks on the north side of the mountain don't like the folks on the south side...especially now with the state of the art facility that's sitting along the highway. Perhaps all the Washburn kids will go to Grainger one day...
  8. Grizz with a big road win...they're out of the gate 5-0.
  9. I've not talked to Briscoe in a few weeks so I really can't say what his thought process is for non-district games, but I would imagine it will be a combination of teams that the Grizz can handle and some toughies. That being said we'll have to wait and see. And Greeneville will dominate the district...they're better than Carter ever has been and Carter won all but one game in four years against Region 1-3A opponents. Greeneville will make the collective district teams raise their level of play, but it's going to be a while before the rest of the district catches up.
  10. He's an arrogant horse's rear...he's got baggage from previous stops in Michigan though nothing yet in Cincinnati... Plus the only school where he's played with players he recruited was at Grand Valley. He's got Mark D'Antoni's players now and had some other goober's players at Central Mich. Plus, I'm one of the only ones that use this site that lives in the Cincinnati metro...he'll be like a deer in the headlights in the SEC...and the Vols will really hit rock bottom. Anyway, if Notre Dame whacks Charlie Weis after USC destroys the Irish expect Kelly to want to go there and tell Hamilton to let him go ahead because I'm telling you we don't want Brian Kelly.
  11. Sky-man will be alright once he gets his basketball legs under him...he'd only had about a week of practice I'd say following football season...and probably needed some rest from being banged around all year long. I dare any team out there that plays Grainger to guard him straight up...it won't be pretty.
  12. We don't want Brian Kelly...I know I don't want him...I live up here in Cincinnati now and it's a different world between the Big Least and the SEC...if the wolves think it's bad now give BK a few years to REALLY mess things up.
  13. It is now...the Greene County schools didn't get their wish, but at least they won't be going to Maynardville and Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg...
  14. I believe if I heard right UT has offered him a shot to walk on. I think they wouldn't hurt themselves to actually pony up a scholarship, but ya know he would love to give it a go...and there's still football, too. Have been hearing that he's not that certain to be strictly a hoops' guy in college, or even that he might opt to only play football...that's a little different than what I've always imagined with him, but he's certainly capable.
  15. That would be no. They'll be in the upper third of AA next season so the usual suspects will be with them. Union, Claiborne, Gibbs...not exactly sure how they will be placed yet, but we will know later today.
  16. The only people that would say anything negative about Skylar are sore losers or even poorer winners. He is absolutely one of the classiest kids there is. If he appears to be anything it is confident not cocky. People have trouble sometimes discerning the two, but let me tell you that kid has confidence and lots of it.
  17. Umm...the "streak" with which you were referring to was only one year...now it's two. All hail the mighty Region 2 teams... /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  18. Well I can't understand how D-B isn't improving to the point where first round upsets aren't a possibility. The city has annexed enough of the North zone over the years to where North is in the lower third of AA next year with fewer than 700 students. Didn't they used to be comfortable AAA before football went to five classes? You'd think with the influx of at least 6-10 good athletes that play football would benefit D-B at some point. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  19. T$$AA made a change in the seeding procedures this season...just a couple of weeks ago. This is the kind of crap we'll get all over the place the next four years with the "Z" plan. Thank your board of control members...
  20. T$$AA has some video explaining why they seeded like that, which makes no sense at all. They've went and put one 1 v. 3, and 2 v. wildcard in that quad which is why the Gap is going to be the unfortunate ones in that scenario. Maybe they should've let WG win... /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  21. Oh ye of little faith GC! Grainger leading 10-0 at last check.
  22. Well then...maybe you guys should petition to be in this "pitiful" region. BTW, Grainger may or may not have a shot in their first round game, BUT AT LEAST THEY'LL BE PLAYING! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  23. In order to understand Sonny's poll you need the following: A sliderule. A bottle of your pappy's best corn squeezin's. A migraine. And a general good humor...because most of them are laughable. If you think some of the 1A ratings are nuts, check out the 3A ratings.
  24. They've fixed it to where it's a little more balanced this season according to the TSSAA Web site. There's a slideshow with audio detailing how they're trying their best to keep teams in the same region from playing each other...so in a case where five teams from one region and three from another play three games will be between schools from each region "seeded" and the other one has to be a game between regional opponents. So I think it would be whomever ends ups in the 5th spot plays Alcoa...yikes!
  25. Both teams are going to make the playoffs...either as a wildcard or third place. The schedule doesn't favor the teams out west this last week of the season and what the Buffs and the Panthers have done in the first part of the schedule helps them now.
