  1. This is the info from Upper Northeast Tennessee. It seems that the sports editors have to make the decision on which spring sports to cover. With baseball, softball, tennis, and track all going at the same time, with all the schools in their readership.... their sports staff may not be able to cover everything. So decisions have to be made. In my observation in our area, some papers view track as important. Kingsport Times-News is excellent for Upper Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Elizabethton Star is good for small schools in the area. Johnson City Press-the big schools(AAA) and sometimes the A-AA. Our local papers in Erwin(The Beacon and The Erwin Record) are very good at providing coverage. Effective communication between the track coaches and the media can go very well when the media understandsyou, your program and the impact on the student athletes. Sometimes the coaches have to provide information and go the extra mile to "sell " their program to the media. Don't assume they(the media) know who or what you do at your school. with honor to be a h.s. coach, Coach B. Unicoi Co. High School
  2. Thanks for the class GPHS. Ladies and track gentlemen of East Tennessee, let's try to have a little class and stick to the facts. Performance has always talked louder than words. In regard to the facts, Ryan Williamson did finish 2nd in the decathlon at The TSSAA State meet. You can check it on the official TSSAA site. I also know about him as an athlete because I taught him to pole vault in one afternoon at our track. We loaned him a pole so he could compete. He got some more help at a school near Seymour. His athleticism combined with the support of his school's class coaching staff, and his teammates, powered him to the 2nd place. Coach B.
  3. No respect. Good wishes for the Cyclone team and their coaching staff in the track and field season. Coach B. UCHS
  4. Let me see if I got this correct..."Aint no way they are going to lose anything in the conference." So...all of the other schools in our conference are going to lose every event at conference. Interesting. Thanks, Coach B.
  5. Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!! I will email you. CoachB.
  6. Thanks. I got what I hoped for.....a great high school football game. Exciting to the very end. My sincere apology to Coach Dance for forgetting about him earlier in my text this week. Best of luck to the Raider Nation in the rest of the season. Coach B.
  7. Same back at you. I hope we have a great high school football game. Hardhitting, clean, and exciting from the beginning to the end. Hopefully....no injuries for either side. Remember, "Mix it up " at the end. Afterall, when the game is over we are all on the same side in life. Very sincerely and respectfully yours to Raider Mom and Son and all the Raider Nation. A special hello to Coach Cox and Coach Patrick. Coach B. UCHS
  8. We have plenty of respect for Hampton and staff. The Bulldogs always playtough at home and on the road. We have been beaten by them before and we have beaten them before. A great high school rivalry and game every time. Respectfully, CoachB. UCHS
  9. Hampton 62-Unicoi 0? Really? No respect. CoachB. Unicoi Co. Blue Devils

  11. The final competitor list in on the TSSAA homepage for a State Track Meet events. It just came up a little while ago. Coach B. Unicoi Co. Track
  12. I don't follow. All of the schools in our area make a noble effort to not cheat. If anything is amiss, it is out of ignorance or omission not a deliberate committed action. I am sorry if you are experiencing less than professional behavior from coaches or from unsportsmanlike athletes. Check the back of the National Federation of High School track and field rulebook for guidelines for coaches and athletes. sincerely Yours Coach B.
  13. East Sectional A-AA Decathlon/Pentathlon results should be in tonight(4/25). Check out the site www.westrun.com for results. Upper Northeast Tenn. is well represented with Elizabethton's Peters leading the North Region. Greg Swafford from H.V. did well as did his teammates, Hardin and Richardson, Jared Acton from SN, Crumley from Eliz. and the Unicoi guys, Aldridge, Weaver and Morris. The field of contestant was large. 37 people in all. Congrats to all 37 who completed the decathlon. Only those who have ever attempted the decathlon really know what it is like.
  14. A-AA Sectional Decathlon at Anderson Co. (Clinton)may give us insight on the best multi-athletes in Tennessee. It is April 24-25. Pentathlon is Monday, April 24, only.
  15. Some great class was shown at the Mt.Lakes Conference meet by track fans, athletes, coaches and the host meet director and staff. When one of our 300m hurdles fell and broke her arm the assistance and concern from all mentioned above was quite impressive. Thanks to whoever let us use their cell phones-perfect strangers to us but willing to help. We appreciated the calls, emails, and questions. The girl will recover from the broken arm and your Good Samaritan acts won't be forgotten. Coach B. UCHS track and field
  16. I agree with both posts. It is a problem to be dealt with at all levels by personal responsibility from athletes and coaches.
