  1. Thanks Landro. I knew that this Friday's game at Baylor was huge...but did not realize what a win would do for the Red Raiders. It will be a tremendous task to get the win no doubt as Ensworth is very talented.
  2. Just a tremendous win for Baylor. And they made mistakes...and were able to overcome. Several special team mistakes could have done us in....but didn't. The snap that went over Baylor's head and gave BA first and goal at the Red Raider 9 set BA up for one touchdown. Huesman was just fantastic. He alone outgained BA. Baylor's offense had 358 yards to BA's 176. The Baylor defense was just tremendous. Baylor held BA to just 33 yards in the 2nd half. Congratulations to Baylor on a huge win.
  3. I like your thinking landro....and certainly hope you are right. I know most are picking BA and I kind of like that. I think Baylor will win if we win the battle of the turnovers and play as solid as we have. BA will bring it after getting beat last week...no doubt. I think this is the best team Baylor has played yet....well off to the game. Prediction...with my Red Raider glasses on..... Baylor 24 BA 21
  4. Great win for Baylor. Defense played extremely well in allowing McCallie just 36 yards rushing. Red Raiders were very disciplined. As pretty much all have noted the O Line is very good. Huesman was very efficient completing 8 of 10 passes. Also winning at Finley gets another monkey off our back. Baylor can enjoy this win over their long time rival (oldest rivarly in the state) but not for long. Brentwood Academy and Ensworth are next. It is an understatement to say this stretch will be a challenge. Congratulations Baylor!
  5. That's understandable. I am sure there is alot of trivia about McCallie (just like Baylor's tiger) that I am not aware of also. We are have alot of passion for our respective schools and I view you as being as passionate of McCallie as I am Baylor. That is what makes this series so fun. So here's to seeing all of the huge red flags with the giant B and all of the blue flags with the giant M. There isn't a game around like it! Now every lady that I see at the game tomorrow wearing blue I am going to wonder....is that bluemom? Take care and let's hope for an injury free game and of course from my perspective....a Red Raider win!
  6. Now Bluemom....since you have been a part of the Baylor/McCallie rivalry for years I am assuming you really know this. Baylor has always had a tiger as their mascot as you witness when you come to a Baylor sporting event. Thus the paw print. We are not as lucky as Auburn however. We have two....the Red Raiders and the tiger. Auburn has three. The Plainsman, the tigers and war eagle.
  7. Just terrible news. My prayers go out to his family.
  8. Congrats on your son at TTU. Sounds like you have graduated to PurpleMom and PurpleSon.

    Baylor vs MBA

Chattcity....I also will try to take off my Baylor Red tinted glasses. But I really like what I have seen from the Red Raiders this year. Yes, alot will depend on the qb play of Huesman...but I think he will be up to the task. He is a tremendous athlete. Add Mackey and Helton (verbal to Duke) to the mix and we do have talent on this team. I would expect nothing more than a hard fought battle between both schools. But I really think Baylor takes it this year in a close game. Baylor 24 MBA 20.
  11. Congrats to Baylor for beating McCallie for the 3rd time this year to advance to the championship. The Red Raiders beat the Tornado 4-1. Not sure who Baylor plays yet but most likely MBA. Go Baylor!
  12. Good article by bbb about Baylor's tennis shutout over McCallie yesterday at McCallie. Baylor Netters Stop McCallie, 7-0 by B.B. Branton posted April 22, 2010 A favored Baylor tennis team posted a win ? 7-0 ? Wednesday against McCallie for the first time since 2006. In the non-region match, the Red Raiders were led by Carlos Cuevas who posted wins at No. 1 singles and No. 2. The two teams will play at Baylor on May 5 in the region match. ?The match today was the reversal of last year as we were the underdog and weren?t expected to win,?? said Baylor tennis coach Ned Caswell whose team remains unbeaten at 5-0. ?McCallie is much improved since the fall, fought hard today and this was a wake up call for us. ?We have four matches matches on consecutive day next week (St. Andrews-Sewanee, Brentwood Academy, Knox. Webb and MBA) so we better know that we need to be at out best every time out,?? Caswell stated. Cuevas rallied to defeat Zeeshan Ismail, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 after teaming with Alex Cooper to stop Scotty Webb-Logan Yerby, 8-2. Following the opening prayer and national anthem, Baylor won two of three doubles matches to gain the team point and then swept the six singles. Straight set singles winners were No. 1 doubles partners Anderson Scarpa (No. 2), and Michael Goldstein (No. 3), as well as Rali Aditja (No. 4). ?Overall, I was pleased with how we played,?? said McCallie coach Eric Voges whose squad is 5-2. ?We had chances to win in some matches and I thought our guys handled the pressure of a McCallie-Baylor match well.?? Voges noted that his top six players were not among the starters from the 2009 state championship team and none had ever played in a Baylor-McCallie match. ?To play this rivalry with Baylor is fun and exciting, yet nerve racking and our players should have learned something from today?s match and be better prepared for the match in May.?? Rally Caps: Baylor was down simultaneously in the opening sets in three singles (Nos. 1,2, and 6) before claiming wins in all three matches. Cuevas lost his opening set, 6-3, Eric Roddy fell 6-4 at No. 6 and Scarpa trailed 5-3 before winning 7-5. Carter Invitational: Two-time defending champion McCallie and Baylor will compete in the Carter Invitational this weekend in Nashville. Win Streak: McCallie had won nine straight matches with Baylor before Wednesday?s meeting ... Baylor?s last win was a 4-1 region dual win in 2006 ? The McCallie win streak started with a 4-2 triumph in the 2006 state finals ... Baylor?s last shutout win came in 1993 (4-0). Baylor 7, McCallie 0 Doubles 1. 13. Congratulations to the Baylor Red Raiders. Tremendous effort with 6 state champions. Well done.
  14. Well said on both counts. Sticking with the football end of things, it is indeed a very bad idea to look past MBA. Traditionally an MBA team is a great deal more than the sum of its parts. MBA players understand (from Day 1 with the 7th grade) that our football heritage is unique. We don't give up. While some of the juvenile Ensworth supporters may have already chalked this one up as a win, the older and more knowledgable ones haven't. More relevant to Friday night's festivities, we will see Nancy Pelosi with a hickey from Rush Limbaugh before we see Ricky Bowers look past past an MBA team. IF (strictly hypothetically) EHS was to come out for the first half and sleep-walk, I'm guessing the Ensworth dressing room would need to be repainted Saturday. MBA does have a couple of advantages. Simonis is playing well; he's passing nicely, and there's not a great body of work to use in preparation against him. There's less pressure on MBA than there is on Ensworth. They seem to have come out of their last two games without any major damage. This has kept them in their weekly routine. The first round bye cuts both ways...a team gets a chance to heal and put in new wrinkles, at the cost of routine and a loss (to some of extent) of game conditioning. We'll all sound a great deal wiser in our post mortems. MBA is better than they were earlier in the season, although there was a lot of room for improvement. I think they can be competitive, and i think they can win, although a lot of factors have to line up just right. They will have no room for error anywhere on the field. No missed tackles, no penalties (especially idiotic unsportsmanlike conduct/unnecessary roughness penalties), no turnovers. They also need Ensworth to start slow and play an average game. Above all, they need some early success. If EHS takes a 14 point lead at any point in the first half, or is up 14-0 at any point, I suspect the night is over. MBA will be a little fragile; nothing from 4 Sep gives them any reason for confidence. Ultimately, from my point of view, the biggest floater in the punchbowl comes from the fact that Ensworth just has a better football team. If both teams play a good game, Ensoworth should win it by 10-14 points. Still, it should be worth watching. Thanks to the good people at the TSSAA, all I can do is sit at my computer and listen to the radio broadcast. BTW, if you've never listened to MBA's radio broadcast of a game, you're missing a good one. Knowledgable, well-informed, funny, and only mildly partisan. It's almost as good as being there. Wow...kwoodroof....I may not be able to sleep tonight for the bad imagery you gave me with the "Nancy Pelosi with a hickey from Rush Limbaugh" thought!" BTW....I agree that no team should be taken lightly once you get into the second round of the playoffs. If MBA plays there best and can get a turnover or two I think they can pull off the win. From some of the ramblings I have read on here....I hope they do. I am making the long trip from Chattanooga to Memphis for the Baylor vs MUS game but will listen for scores of the other games.
  15. Huesman only plays one side of the ball also. He has not had the pub that the other two have had....this is his first year of D2 football in Tennessee so not the exposure of the others. He is also the only junior up for the award. Great kid, student and athlete. Awesome that in such a short time to D2 football that he is building a reputation as an outstanding player.
  16. I am pretty sure by the name and prediction that this is probably not a Baylor person. Either way most likely someone just having some fun. This game will be a huge challenge for the Red Raiders. Even without having to travel 5 hours....it will be a tremendous task against what I believe to be the best team in the state. Huesman's shoulder should be ready to go (hopefully) after sitting out last weeks game. And it will take a near perfect performance by Baylor to keep it close. Two of the three D2 Mr. Football finalists will go against each other in senior Barry B and junior J Huesman. Hoping for a good game that is injury free.
  17. I agree with your statement about MUS....and this is coming from a Baylor alum. I will make the trip to Memphis for the game. But if Baylor won it would be the upset of the year I think. I am excited to see this MUS team and it will be a challenge for the Red Raiders no doubt. I, along with many others, think that MUS is the best team in the state. Hoping for good weather and no injuries....and a massive upset. Hey, I'm a fan....I'm supposed to think it can happen.
  18. bigred4life...you beat me to it. I too want to congratulation Chuck Hudson for helping to lead Baylor to victory last night. Sam Williams and Nelson Pinkstaff lead a very potent running game as well. The win earns the Red Raiders the opportunity to travel to Memphis to face what is most likely the best team in the state....MUS. I will be making the trip and look forward to seeing them. Again, way to go Red Raiders!
  19. First I would like to say congratulations to St Agnes...they are a fantastic team. As to your comments about Baylor you are wrong. Baylor was supposed to be in a somewhat rebuilding year and overachieved. With just two seniors and a team largely made up of sophomores...Baylor had a fantastic year. After winning four state championships in a row Baylor has not won the title again...yet. But saying that a 17-1-1 Baylor team cannot finish is really unfair to a young team that achieved more than anticipated this year. They will be back. Again congrats to St Agnes...but I think your comments about Baylor were off base.
  20. Huesman came back into the game with 8 minutes left and threw a beautiful ball to about the FR 10. He also ran effectively again. FR's defense did a nice job of holding Baylor to a field goal try....and missed it. Bottom line....without Huesman in the game it completely changed the complexion of the game. Father Ryan's defense did a good job....what a kicker they have. Final score Father Ryan 21 Baylor 11. Congratulations Father Ryan. On to the playoffs as both will host games.
  21. Father Ryan has scored on a nice drive....4th quarter score 21-11 Father Ryan. Huesman injured in the 2nd quarter and has not returned. Ollerich has done a nice job filling in....but Huesman was dominating the game in rushing. The game has not been the same.
  22. Halftime score: Father Ryan 14 Baylor 11. Odd game so far. Baylor had yet another touchdown called back...another Huesman 35 yarder called back. Then Father Ryan returns a punt to the 5 yard line and they score. Baylor then fumbles on there own 24 and FR punches it in. Baylor puts together a long drive and settles for a field goal. Baylor puts together another drive and Sam Williams runs it in from around 20 yards out. Go for 2 and get it. The Red Raiders have dominated play and held Father Ryan from putting any drives together......Huesman went out after the 2 point conversation injured. Has an ice pack on his shoulder. Hope he can return. Huesman is so valuable....he has literally ran all over Father Ryan before the injury.
  23. Are you kidding me? They hold the best team in Tennessee who has the best back in Tennessee to 15 pts last week. You call that suspect? I will agree with you on BA's defense not being suspect. If you hold a potent Ensworth team to 15 points your defense is doing alot of things right. As for Ensworth being the top team in Tennessee....they may be. MUS is there as well.....I think everyone has MUS and Ensworth as the top two teams in the state regardless of the order. Hoping once again that the rain holds off. I am leaving in a couple of hours to make the trip from Chattanooga to cheer on my Red Raiders. I know that BA is favored and has a great team as always. But Baylor is a very talented team as well. Naturally I will go with my heart on this one......... Baylor 28 BA 26
  24. I am not sure we watched the same game. How in "your opinion was McCallie the better team" last night? I think he was being sarcastic....or indeed was watching another game. So proud of the Red Raiders. Dominated the game from start to finish. Just an awesome evening for Baylor. Now.....we get Brentwood Academy on the road. Before we start thinking about it.....I am just going to enjoy the Red beating the Blue for a few days.
