  1. finally! someone who agrees that that title is ridiculous. Same with NFL....
  2. Here's a though. How bout everyone just shut up?
  3. Now to see who Farragut gets to play in sectionals.
  4. drove by, looked like Farragut was up 10-0. I think they were done, but I couldn't really tell, but it was def. 10-0 Farragut.
  5. It was just a guess, and Farragut does tend to struggle with those kind of pitchers. He didn't say for a fact that he had evidence the kid was throwing 80mph, or anything. He said he was "probably"... why does everyone take everything so literally all the time? You are right, he wasn't there, and he said he wasn't, which should have given away the fact that he didn't know exactly what the kid was throwing. He was just guessing?
  6. I am sure there are plenty of UT football fans who have never even been to game, but all they do is talk about how "good" they are. And all those "national championships" they have or are going to get every year... So what, he didn't go to the game. I don't see what that has to do with anything.
  7. Cool that Bennett got the record breaker in walk-off fashion. Congrats to him. He has had a great season so far.
  8. haha phanatic, you didn't have to go and edit your post. It's all good. I see what you were saying though. Even being a Farragut fan, TheFU can be a little, how do I put it....? I don't know, I am sure you know what I mean though.
  9. come on bigG, he can stir it all he wants... It's not going to make a difference. Everyone knows where they stand in this debate. No one will change their mind. It's all in good fun? I do know I love to argue so at least it was finally something to do on here. It has been a bit dead, imo, since the playoffs started.
  10. random, but ok? I never said I wanted a team to only play scrubs on their schedule. Suppose the coach is educated in the strengths of teams in the kids area and see they beat a CAK or Bearden or Brentwood or Christian Brothers by 8 or 9 instead of 1. He may be impressed. If all a coach is looking at is the the scores of games, he isn't doing a good job recruiting. I never disagreed that there was more to a game than the score.
  11. nothing is being said about the district. even the paper doesn't seem to want to list anything. I can't figure it out. Usually D4AAA has alot of people on here with constant updates. What happened?
  12. do you know what Farragut has as a team by chance?
  13. From a certain website that it wont let me post.. Starts with max and ends with preps.
  14. Umm....... Bearden has 3 ('01, '02, '06) State Titles in Soccer. Farragut has 5 with the first coming in 1987. The other 4 coming in '03, '04, '07, and '09... So just as many or more... no. I do believe, as do many others, both teams have been the most dominant this decade. I mean with 7 out of 9 state titles this decade. That's just crazy. And what 2 of those 7 years they both played for the championship? in '03 and '07 I believe.
  15. how many does Farragut have as a team? How many did they have last year?
  16. IMO, it's on the field of play, so if play wasn't stopped because of it, then it should automatically become part of the field of play. Therefore, tis a goal. In baseball when a player hits a fly ball that hits a bird, they don't take the hit away do they? I know it doesn't happen often, but the once or twice it has, I don't believe they said "sorry, redo." Same with The Rays baseball stadium, of course their situation is weird, because seems like, sometimes hitting the roof means dead ball, try again, other times, it counts? "A batted ball that hits a catwalk, lights or suspended objects in fair territory shall be judged fair of foul in relation to the striking point on the ground or where it is touched by the fielder. If the ball hits the catwalk, lights or suspended objects in fair territory and lands in the field in fair territory or is touched by a fielder in fair territory, it shall be judged a fair ball. If the ball strikes the catwalk, lights or suspended objects in fair territory and is caught by a fielder in fair or foul territory, then the batter is out and the base runners run at their own risk." .... obviously baseball and soccer are different, but like I said. the object was in fair play, so I think it should become part of the field of play. edit: few more random rules for Tropicana Field.. "A batted ball that hits the catwalk, lights or suspended objects and remains on or in the catwalk, lights or suspended objects in foul territory is a foul ball and it shall be called a strike. A batted ball that hits the catwalk, lights or suspended objects and remains on or in the catwalk, lights or suspended objects in fair territory is a fair ball and it shall be called a double. A batted ball that hits either of the lower two catwalks, lights or suspended objects in fair territory is a home run." http://tampabay.rays.mlb.com/tb/ballpark/ground_rules.jsp
  17. I think some of the kids that go to/play for HVA in any sport, live in the town of Farragut.. Now How they ended up zoned for HVA is beyond me, but to me that makes no sense. I know the town of Farragut doesn't control the Farragut schools, maybe this is a reason they should? I also think we will see another rezoning coming up, because I believe HVA is already close to being "overcrowded". When I was at Farragut I didn't think it was as terrible a situation as people made it seem like. If you just know what you are doing and where you are going, it's really not terrible. Now with 600 less kids than when I was there I am sure the place looks empty. With the new rezoning that I think will come up in the next few years, we will see the HVA kids that were zoned Farragut, going back to Farragut. If anyone has even been out by HVA all there is is room for houses. How Knox County could have overlooked the obvious isn't really beyond me, actually doesn't surprise me at all, but they should have just let the kids living right around it go there and let it grow on its own, instead of all this rezoning and moving kids from the schools they've been going to their whole life to make the school full when it opens only to get "overcrowded" within 3 years of it opening. Now they are just in the exact same situation they were in. Another "overcrowded" school, and parents who are overly concerned about something that doesn't matter. Of course, there's not a lot you can do about it now. And wow, I just realized that none of that even had to do with soccer? Anywho..... congrats to Hardin Valley for putting up a fight. I was kind of expecting a 3-0 win atleast by Farragut. I think Farragut should watch out for HVA come post season. HVA could easily be the 3rd best public school in Knox County, maybe even East TN.
  18. I had a response for you soccerkeeper last night, but my phone kept screwing up and wouldn't let me post it. Hopefully I can remember all of it.. I guess kids that play sports to win don't love the sport? I can't recall ever having played a sport I don't love, except when playing my uncle in tennis, and the occasional volleyball game in gym class. I guess I shouldn't put it that way, that people play to win, but that is the goal. So, imo, that's part of the reason for playing. Also, if you are on a team capable of routing a team, then your team is obviously pretty decent, therefore you are more likely to be playing to win, whereas a team who hasn't won a game in 3 years, they will find a different reason to play. I think we all know that in these discussions no one is going to change their opinion. That usually seems to be how they all end up on here. We enter them with our mind made up, we read, usually, valid points made by the opposing side, then at best, we leave the discussion with the same opinion we came in with just maybe with a different view of it. That's usually what happens with me. Come in thinking one thing, leave thinking the same thing, but maybe a different way of going about it and an understanding/appreciation for how the other side feels about the subject. Also, I think the walmart comparison is valid (of course I am going to think so, since I brought it up). Wally World is good at what they do. They go about their business. I don't think it's so much that they don't care about the little guy, just more so, they exist to make money and be successful. They'd rather just not deal with the little guy at all. I think, now I am not saying Farragut, so no need to announce that I have no connection with them, because who cares? I'm not speaking for them or anything, so stop obsessing over that... But good teams in sports, would just rather not play the weak teams. Generally can end up in a lose/lose situation. You risk getting starters hurt, or you look bad because you won by too much. They would rather just win their games and do what they set out to accomplish, win games. If the little guy gets in the way, then so be it. I know business isn't the greatest comparison with sports, butI think atleast someone will see what I mean? I sure am going to miss going to games when I go out west for school in the fall and next spring. Luckily I still have coacht? Maybe we should just get together and have this discussion in a public place screaming and yelling making a scene (all in good fun).. Just seems slightly more entertaining, and a good way to get our points across. haha. I agree though BigG, the boards have been rather dry lately. Disappointing signing on and seeing that there are no new posts, and the latest post was 6 hours ago. And really? only 2 pages in the Farragut/Bearden thread? VERY unusual.
  19. Sorry, for the unnecessarily long post btw. I guess my point BigG is, in my opinion, choosing not to give 100% the whole game because the score gets out of hand, is choosing to give up/quit trying (not saying it is, just how I feel about it). When I played sports and my coach told me to take it easy, I just didn't get why. I was taught, and most kids, I think, who are when brought up playing sports are, to give 100% the whole game, whether winning or losing. (maybe it's just a football thing? Play your hardest from whistle to whistle?) Then a coach tells me to stop that? Just never made sense to me. I have quit things in the past, and I totally regret it. So now, I figure if I am going to do something, I am going to go all out, the whole time, and never let up. Same with showing mercy, showing mercy to me, is a sign of weakness, in my opinion. I understand all you yalls opinions about not running up the score and I completely see where you are coming from. I'm not trying to change your opinions about it or anything. Just trying to defend my opinion on it (I know you are only doing the same.....well most of you), when certain people seem to think I'm ignorant or something for thinking score, or more importantly margin of victory, doesn't matter, whether it be by 20 or 1. Maybe my opinion about the subject will change if I ever become a coach? Also, this is why I can't seem to get away from coacht. All these fun discussions. haha. I know most people on here think I am a complete moron, but I don't really care. I enjoy discussing opinions on sports and sports related issues....
  20. I don't recall saying "life sucks". I said "It's life". Who do I think I am? I am a person who doesn't treat 15-18yr olds like 6yr olds. Let them learn from their mistakes. Taking it easy on them is not teaching them anything. Letting them learn that sports and life can be ruthless and unforgiving is a better lesson to teach than, if you aren't capable of competing someone will step in a make it so you don't look too bad or, they feel sorry for you so they won't try hard against you. I've been on both sides of the scoring as well, in several sports. Honestly, I felt more embarrassed when my team got killed, not because we got killed, but because it was obvious we should have lost by more, and the other team quit trying. It was obvious they quit trying. I'd rather them play their game, the whole game and the final score end up being whatever it ends up being. In basketball one year my team was up by 40 something. I got fouled, they didn't call it. I made a comment to the ref and got a technical. He said "when you're up by this much you won't get the call" That's garbage... A foul is a foul. Doesn't matter when it is and what the score is. You shouldn't be punished for being a better/dominant team. Give your all the whole game. Why are people so obsessed with not letting people feel bad about themselves? I can say, that some of the most fun games I have been in were when my team was dominating. Why? Because it IS rewarding. It shows that the hard work you have put in, has paid off. You are the better team and you are proving it. I'm not saying be cocky about it. I'm not saying when you are up by 10+ run around celebrating your goal like it was to win the state championship. Just play your game and give 100% the whole game, no matter what. You can win by a lot and still have "class" and show good "sportsmanship". That is how it is done. Just score, and go back to business. This is honestly making me see why people in America don't like soccer, other than "it's boring"... You guys are getting upset for someone winning by too much. And why do people keep bringing up Farragut? Farragut has nothing to do with this, so I don't get why that keeps coming up. (I hope you can sense the sarcasm in this paragraph)I think you are right though soccerkeeper... "life is not about winning", it's about trying super duper hard and giving your all, unless you are doing too good, then you stop. It's also about making people like you because you only do the minimum to get by (I actually implement this technique, just not with sports... only school**this is not sarcasm**). I guess life is about being a swell dude and lending a helping hand every chance you get? I'm assuming you (soccerkeeper) donate over 1/3 your income to helpful causes? When passing homeless people do you give them money? I don't. Never have, never will. It's not that I am not compassionate and have no heart. I just don't feel the need to help them, when I know in reality it isn't helping them in any way. I don't see why you are acting like I am a terrible or ignorant person either. I have a different opinion than you when it comes to sports. So what? A different opinion does not mean ignorant. Sorry to burst your bubble, but when it comes to sports, winning is everything. Otherwise, what's the point? to gain popularity in school? To claim you played that sport in h.s./college? No, you play to win. If anything is ignorant in this thread, it is to say that it's not about winning. 90+% of athletes will say they play to win. If they don't they are lying, or are 5yrs old and haven't learned how fun it is. What's the goal when teams start their season? Win a certain amount of games. Win a national championship. Win the conference. Win state. Not try really really hard and hope the other team shows mercy. Not.. Lose. Not only have fun and nothing else. Come on please come to reality and stop thinking the world and people are as nice and compassionate as you want them to be. It just isn't true. If I were to ever coach a team, and I had kids who didn't want to win. They wouldn't be on my team. What exactly is life about then soccerkeeper? besides, the typical, "spreading the good word" response please... also, what are sports about to you soccerkeeper? I am dying to know. also, I assume you(soccerkeeper) hate walmart for putting other people out of business? Why is that? Because they are successful and have a business plan that works better than those of everyone else? How dare they! right?
  21. im not about "pounding" my chest. I just dont think people should treat these high school kids like they are 6yrs old. I love soccer. Never played it before, but i love following it and watching it. I love all sports and have the same opinion about scoring for all of them. In australian football its apparently not uncommon for teams to win by 60+. I have never seen people complain about that... Yet, someone wins a soccer game by 10 in america and theres outrage about bad sportsmanship and not hurting people's feelings... I think it's a bit ridiclous.
  22. caught the last 13 minutes. Hats off to the farragut parents/booster club. They have done a great job with that field.
  23. wow, good one guys! "ihavenoclass" "ihavenosportsmanship". I just don't see a point in telling kids not to try simply because another team is bad. Yeah put in your second, third, fourth string players, but don't tell them not to try and score. That's just ridiculous. I used to go to Farragut, so what? What does that have to do with anything? Why did Farragut even come up? I never mentioned them in my post. That was just a general statement. Not. "Only Farragut can run up the score, because I said so." Any team can run the score up on anyone. People just need to learn that there is actually such a thing as winners and losers. If you suck, you will lose. That's all there is to it. If you suck really really bad. You will lose big. End of story. Deal with it. It's life people. You have to let the kids grow up at some point. This isn't pee wee everyone plays for "fun" anymore. This is about winning. Just get the heck over it. It will be ok.
  24. Just go to espnrise.com They have a ranking for Fall, Winter, and Spring. There is a "national champion" for each ranking. They update the rankings every week. obviously the Fall season is over, and I believe the Winter just ended.
