  1. I was saying that bc in previous games Powell was passing pretty well on their opponents and the QB was making accurate throws. In this game he seemed out of sync. He had time to throw it and had some WRs open at times, but either couldnt make the throw accurately or the WRs missed the catch. Also the run game wasnt as successful, but that was bc Maryville has a very good D and everyone knew that they wouldnt have as much success running the ball. Powell's D looked pretty good though. They forced 4 turnovers, but the score made them look bad, but the offense wasnt helping them out. Powell should get these problems fixed in practice and I see them bouncing back @ anderson co. Thats not saying Im guaranteeing win, but theyll surely look better than they did last friday and hopefully pull out a win going into region play.
  2. even with maryville turning the ball over, powell didnt look like they have in the past couple of games. they didnt hit the big plays, they couldnt get their passing game going even though there were open wrs, and without the passing game, the running game didnt have a big effect. hopefully powell can face maryville again in the play-off and hopefully powell can play a better game bc tonight didnt look like what powell can do. good win by maryville and good luck.

  4. Lets keep this thread on the topic of Maryville and Powell and not bash any of the coaches. Coach Lowe is respected by the people who count (other coaches from Powell, his players, and his students....not people who get on message boards that have nothing to do with Friday nights and have no life but to bash other teams and coaches)
  5. 74 is one of their better linemen. He and 50 are the only 2 real returning starters
  6. Powell's O-line LT Jordan Goodman 6-1 190 SR LG Caleb Hinton 6-0 210 SR C Andy Courtney 6-0 210 JR RG Josh Ferguson 5-10 250 SR RT Matt Hudson 6-1 200 SR Back-ups OL Tanner Butler 6-0 180 SR OG Jordan Driver 6-3 250 JR OT Austin Smith 6-1 220 FR Powell's offense is made for their o-linemen since they don't have to drive someone down field. All they have to do is get a body on a body and the RB is suppose to find a hole made by the defense's play. Also Kier Houston has ample time passing is because everyday they are working on pass-blocking, so they're not new to trying to pass block for 3 seconds or more.
  7. I think the only games that Powell have to really worry about losing is West, Central, and Maryville. Halls will be a tough game, but I think Powell can get it done. SD, Anderson Co., and Karns will be hard fought games, but these shouldn't be as tough as the possible 3-4A play-off teams.
  8. no one would've ever thought that Powell would be 2-0 that convincingly. Powell is averaging 38 pts. a game on O and 0 on D. They've scored higher in both games (35 and 41) than any game last year where the most the scored was 28. Also they've doubled their shut outs already from last year. This new offense and 2 platoon system must be working for Powell. We'll see how well it works against higher quality opponents as the face Karns and next week they take on powerhouse Maryville.
  9. Powell has around 100 players on the team, but everyone knows its quality and not quantity. Powell my have a lot of players, but they only have about 10 quality players and with the 2 platoon system these players can only help on one side of the ball. I have heard though that Powell might use their quality players on both sides of the ball. They might not start on both sides, but theyll see some quality playing time on both sides.
  10. I think Powell will be ready by the opening game vs. Campbell Co. If you noticed Powell really stuck with the 2 platoon system and also they had Abba and Furgeson injured (2 starters out of the about 6 from last year). Both of them should be back soon. Also with the 2 platoon system, I heard that Lowe is going to start playing the "studs" on both sides of the ball because if you didnt see the jamboree, the fresh starters looked like they werent ready to play on friday nights. Powell should answer a lot of questions in the Campbell Co. game.
  11. I'm not saying have just 11 players start. I'm saying don't limit your players to only playing 1 position. Yeah you can sub in with other players, but start your best players at each position. Also Powell doesn't have any huge linemen so conditioning isn't a factor anymore. The others that had to play both ways weren't gassed by the 3rd quarter.
  12. With Powell having limited quality talented players I don't think this 2 platoon system will work. I'm not saying Powell has only a couple of players that are good, but they have some with enough talent and are conditioned enough to play both ways and they will only be limited to playing only 1 position and maybe only seeing a couple of snaps on the other side of the ball. Also with a lot of young talent at Powell how will Lowe know if that player is the best at playing either O or D when he only gives them a shot at 1 position in practice? Now I can see having this system in if your team has a whole bunch of talent, but Powell doesn't and for Powell to get into the play-offs they will need to use their star players as much as possible instead of throwing someone in a starting spot just because the player that could be playing that position starts on the other side of the ball. This could be good during practice to get the best against the best, but when it comes down to Friday night it should be the best 11 on each side of the ball no matter if they start on the other side or not.
  13. Heres how I see it: (1-0)Win vs. Campbell Co. (2-0)Win vs. Lenior City (3-0)Win @ Karns (3-1)Lose @ Maryville (4-1)Win @ Anderson Co. (5-1)Win vs. South Doyle Swing @ Halls Swing @ Central Swing @ West (6-1)Win vs. Clinton This is all from what happened last year. The swing games were games last year that Powell kept it close and had shots to win.
  14. It would have to be Quarles of Maryville or Rankin of Riverdale/Alcoa
