i didn't want to have anything else to do with coacht but saw this thread and was amazed. some people still want to praise duncan (HTV) while others praise hutchins (redsmash) the truth is you guys aren't south knoxville people and probably are actually either those people or they are your heros. the program is slightly better than when we were 0-10 and if i am correct that was the first year duncan was A.D. OK Ok I know that was the year they fired coach swafford so duncan did what he was hired to do. but truth is before that we had two years where we were hard to handle. i have said coach swafford did some things that i thought were bizarre but for the most part he did things to fire up his players and also to encourage support. we hardly ever didn't play in front of big crowds. i remember the amazing excitement the year we lost to Halls in overtime and then the same year beating clinton in overtime. the next year when we beat heritage to start the season and started 4-0 including beating Halls. those were great times, now for SD to move forward one thing has to stop and that is the current group using the "well he is better than swafford" speech and start saying well we've been here for 4 years it is time to put our stamp on things. I am now a business person and would love to support the Kees' but truthfully until I see some community interest shown by our administration and coach then why should i send my money that way. Now, I am finished with coach T. Coach Swafford if you read this I would like to say I hope the next time I see you the circumstances that surround it won't be like it was, however, the guys who were in there won't forget you and coach chandler being there and the fact that no matter what else we learned you taught us that sometimes good things happen and sometimes bad things happen but there are some people who will always be there. I have watched this and am amazed that there are still some people who support Duncan. He has run off every coach that has done well at SD with the exception of Coach Howard and he is such a fixture in our community it would take dynamite to move him. Listening to a couple of people still talk about Coach Swafford is ridiculous. Like ftblfan says that was a long 4 years ago. However, I was one of his players and I must state as I have before...we were a physical get after it team. there were alot of people who didn't like him for his antics but it is what he did and believed in and the truth was he always believed in us. But the only thing I wanted to contribute to this is a) we no longer have SD people in the front office or on the sideline (Coach Chandler needs to come home) and I was at the funeral of one of SD's former players and looked up and saw Coach Swafford. You can say alot about him but when he was needed he showed up. That was why many of us will always call him Coach.

I would like to apologize to all the people who I have talked badly about. I am sorry that I have gossiped and spoke unkindly. I just had a thought today that I would like to share...if I spent as much time praying and reading the Bible and asking God for direction as I do on coachT I could make a difference. I pray that He forgives me for worshipping something other than the God I serve. As of right now I am logging off coacht to worship my Lord. I hope that others take the same path. Just think how much we are hurting our brothers and hurting others by our words

i haven't seen it either but didn't get in til late last night, sad day for south-doyle. Don't know the situation but do know that coach smith didn't just start cussing over night. he always did it even in class. hate to see another coach done that way, Hey bring back Coach Hodge.

Leonard you are a loser. You are very wrong on your facts. The person that got in the bar fight is on the current staff (that was in the paper). We don't even want to go into the cussing. I was there, you were up Duncan's ..... Coach did hit the player in the back of the head (again he didn't try to lie about it but admitted it) but there is where you are so wrong. his 1st year we were 2-8 after being 1-9 the year before, then 6-5 and beat Halls, Science Hill (play-offs not weak, Campbell County, Bearden who beat Jefferson County, and Karns they were bad). 3rd year 4-6 lost lots of games in last seconds (Halls, Jefferson County, Bearden) and played the last part of the year without Kenny. His last year he only coached 2 games. The funny thing is that I didn't even get to start until my senior year and yet i never felt like i was cheated or should have been playing (i was great though) Oh and the 1-9 season was Hutchins. He may be an embarrassment to the coaching profession but he still taught us to play hard with pride and intense and that when you mess up to step up, take responsiblity and then make a change. and nobody could come on a field like the cherokees Finally, Coach Duncan should never be mentioned in the same thread as Pete Stafford. Coach Stafford spent many years trying to make south-doyle better while all duncan has done is tear it down. BRING BACK COACH CHANDLER, he loves south-doyle. send duncan north

the bar fight was after Coach was gone and was under the current administration. speak the facts please...as far as foul mouthed he never sugar coated anything that was said but you can ask one of the coaches that he hired...he hired someone to stay with him to make sure that he didn't use profanity. Also, despite what might be said..he never claimed to be anything other than what he was and that is why I respected him then and respect him more now...also, you must be kidding about cup-cake scheduling, we didn't play Gibbs, seymour wouldn't play us (we killed them in a scrimmage) we beat Halls, and the only teams we didn't play were Maryville and Central and we played DB and Science Hill instead. Oh and who is Clinton and Lenoir City. Keep making excuses and you are doomed to be what you are now...Accept responsibility Duncan and make things happen positive. Oh, yeah the fact is that he knew Coach Smith had done what is said and kept turning his head until it got above his head

HTV is Clark Duncan. Or at the very least is the card carrying member of his fan club. notright you are right --it didn't take much to get HTV out of the closet. Also, what coaches other than Hutchins are Duncan supporters? And for the record I made a point to say that the higher ups made the call. Duncan would never have done that to the Powell people.

He hides in his office and tries to stay as far away from parents as possible. he usually tries to avoid parents at ballgames and everywhere else. He still thinks that he is above everyone in south knoxville. As for what he has done to the football program all you have to do is ask some of the former players. south-doyle was in the play-offs or at least contention before Duncan came, after that well you know the story. Duncan is the ONLY reason South-Doyle is going backward. Well Walker doesn't help much either. Where do they live? not in south knoxville--- Administration takes guts---check out Gibbs--who is there and is still there---check out south doyle--who was here and who is still here administration with backbone vs administration without backbone

Duncan does it again!!!! Well at least he said something nice about Coach Smith while he was looking for a place to stick the knife. Hutchins better beware. All it takes is a complaint and the SD administration runs like roaches when the lights come on. Well next I guess is the baseball coach. He is the only one left that was there in the pre-Duncan days. Powell please take Duncan back...

Just saw the story. Duncan is the worst AD in the history of sports. If South Doyle wants to get good at anything then the change must start now. Everybody knew Coach Smith's language was bad but so is Hutchins. They got rid of my coach and now it is coming back on them. The bad part is that Smith is part of the Powell family and Duncan knows that he has ties to higher ups. The day Duncan walked in the south-doyle family fell apart. By the way---where does he live and do business...I know that the former AD was and is a south knoxville guy and had brought in people who would be community oriented not just take the job for the job, but he doesn't want that

What has happened to the kees? Haven't been to a game in years but when I was there they had just brought in Coach Smith (I didn't play) and the teams played hard and were winning (at least some). I loved Coach Hodge he was a great guy and alot of fun to have in health class, Ms Irvin wasn't too cool though

Leonard you are kind of right about the AD...but....when Coach Stafford was here and had the person coaching under him you didn't have to worry about the fieldhouse, the weight room which was really new and nice or the field. They were all kept in good shape. Maybe it was the coach or maybe the AD but whoever made sure it got done got it done. getright I was on that team that you were talking about and our field was great (Coach Sanders) painted it with help from a couple of parents, Kenny Norris and coaches wife. We also beat Heritage that year by a big score and went on to the play-offs. I loved South-Doyle and still do. As for the my coach, he was in town Friday night at the funeral home where one of his former softball players parents had passed. I don't know many other people say about him but that is just what I always said, whether you liked him or not (sometimes I didn't) he cared about his people and taught us that no matter how far down you are and what happens bad to you get up dust yourself off and make something positive out of it.

Isn't this where my coach played? Coach Swafford - was he a pretty good player - he used to laugh and say he didn't play that he was a good water boy...

Where is Ftbalfan? Please don't tell me that you are trying to join the polically correct group of people who sit on their hands while our program continues to crash and burn. many of the people who played here feel like we wasted alot of sweat, tears and throwing up so some others can sit up in their office and try to remember what life was like when they were wearing orange and black

that is a great understatement - well anyway you guys do have a good young coach, who gets kind of excited it looks like, but I really like a coach who shows emotion and is into the game, I was lucky enough to play for one

Well another Knox Co coach bites the dust. I know one of the current administrators at Karns very well and I'm sure that he is upset over the situation. I do not know Coach Fulkerson but it is sad that when you start doing things that are not politically correct then you are going to be gone. I have seen this before. Also, when you start moving administrators around then the people who get hurt are the ones who got hired by the previous and then most importantly students and ball players. Sorry Karns I saw this happen somewhere else a few years ago.

robpride - i didn't mean to cause you any sleepless nights, i was only stating what several (not a few) powell people have said. There words were that it seemed there was no direction for powell. west fan - Who cares about JV? Maybe those players should be playing on Friday night then instead of waiting for a great jv game.

Of all the teams that I really hope that my kees beat it would be in this order; Halls, Powell and Sevier County. That being said I don't see it happening this year but go Cherokees. Maybe something good will happen. I am sure that at some time during the game our A.D. will actually realize that we are playing a game and that he is not just standing and listening to Powell play.

Nice post, but you guys won so quit bothering us. I am sure that you would like to see South-Doyle stay just the way they are that way you guys can continue to beat us. Someone on here made the statement that coaching doesn't matter; You are wrong, Heritage was on the bottom for years and then hired a good coach and he quickly turned them around, then he left and they hired another coach and they couldn't beat anybody (he is now on our staff) and now they have hired another coach and he is beginning to turn the program back around. As far as talent goes, some coaches get the most out of it and others make excuses for not having it. We were blessed to have Kenny and Josh when I was playing but there were also many of us who probably played above our heads most of the time and as a result WE MADE THE PLAY-OFFS. Look at the rosters from back then and you will see lots of starters who weren't very big or fast. We played hard. Don't ask me why but you know the answer you just don't want to admit it. By the way, i have talked to alot of Powell people who say that Duncan would be welcomed back in any capacity that he chose. Ftblfan, keep it up heads are turning your way and remember that the squeaky wheel get the grease. Coach Hutchins and staff, I am not against you I just think that the problems are deeper than the coaching staff, Cherokee players, Keep looking for the silver lining

Ftblfan, tell the guys to hang in there. They say the darkest days are right before the dawn so maybe there will be a change soon. Have talked to several "old cherokees" who are still around and they are dying to come back and try to fix things in the office. Powell also wants Duncan back. He would be missed terribly. Football is no fun when you feel like nobody cares and when losing is the only option available. Ftblfan - keep up the good fight, there are people who agree with you they are just afraid to show their face, sooner or later they have to, kissing up hasn't done them any good

ftbl i am around close but i don't feel much like a swagger anymore, when i was playing we played carter in the jamboree and smacked them around pretty good, without an AD who really cares about the program and puts coaches there who care about the program it seems like all there is is a bad football team...my heart goes out to you guys on the team and never believe for a minute that real cherokees don't care about you because we do... i still wear my t-shirt that says "all it takes is all you've got". We need our school board member to step up, he can get things going in the right direction and bring "home" some cherokee pride instead of panther cast-offs.

ftbl you hit it on the head every time, sad that they will probably try and close this thread, it seems like they like to do that to us don't they. sdhs players are not to blame for the problems, i don't even like to totally blame the coaches but let's face it the administration is happy that we are not successful. they are probably still blaming the former staff. by the way have they interviewed coach brentz wife lately to ask her why her awsome athlete is not playing? I only hope that people like our school board member remember what south-doyle was like before the hostile take over. many good people and a decent administration and wonderful athletic director are missed greatly. every time i walk in the stadium my heart hurts
