  2. Year end year out OJ's teams were a contender. I think it was a combination of having the benefit of good club talent, but also a HS coach who also had the ability to coach girls 'up'. He did not have a kid glove approach, but had an attitude more on the level of boy's football, which I think rubbed a few the wrong way. Those willl be big shoes to fill, should be easy to try on though, since he seldom wore them at games.
  3. Exactly what G said. It is a great honor, but no college coach is going to rely on HS awards as his barometer for a player. I've always looked at it as feathers in your cap. By the way, Major League baseball had 72 All-Stars this year. All-State is simply recognition of a level of play IMO. What would be the best '10' players would always be subject to debate.
  4. Greta Jochmann Oak Ridge HS Offensive Player of the Year Caitlin Cody Knox West Defensive Player of the Year Sonny Trotter (West) and O.J. Sheppard (Oak Ridge) Co-Coach of the Year

  6. Maybe you've got the leash too tight..... but your theory does not hold water. The East (Chattanooga) had one club for all the '92 girls to play for and Nashville had two, now one, I think. The West (Shelby county) had 3 and the talent pool was spread across three organizations in the past. That has changed and you can mark your calender that you heard it today, the Lobos will win several state championships next June. Every talented player within 75 miles of Memphis has moved to the Lobos. The only girls not making the move did not make the team, were not going to play in college, so quit club soccer, or had other obligations that prevented they from moving. I do not work for the Lobos or do their publicity, but I do think highly of the coaches, the management and the organization in general. There were 23 Lobo players on the three State Championship teams out of 66 players and 46 Lobo players participated on teams that played in Chattanooga. Since only 8 girls of the 38 playing in the Senior All Star game were from the West, I don't think the West was truly represented regardless of what the '92's have accomplished in the past. The true fact is that 20 % of team was from the West and 80% was from the East/Middle. Half of the Middle had to play for the West and half for the East, but the East did have 34 % of their own players, so the strongest group represented was the East. WOW!!!! Yeah, but you can only put 11 on the field at one time. You left Knoxville completely out of your equation, as well as the All-Star game. Don't jump off the porch with your leash still connected
  7. none of the CAK players were there for the East. I think we all know some very deserving players, which is a great problem to have for our State on the whole. It happens in every sport, just so many spots to go around. It was a good season, a bunch will carry on next year.......me I"m basically over and out except for club one more time.
  8. OK 'dog, I'm going to take you by the leash and walk you through this. Most Seniors are '92 club girls. The All-Star team was composed of Seniors. The '92 girls from the East have won as mentioned the state D-1 titles. Just sayin' that if we are trying to look for a 'reason' as was posted by soccermom, this was as good as any. And yes, HS is composed of multiple age groups which would tend to favor West teams due to the wins posted at the D1 state level this past year.
  9. Nope, not at all when you consider these are '92 girls, and the East has won the D1 State Championship the past 2 years, and actually 4 of the last 5 for that age group. I don't know that it really matters; it's apples and oranges.
  10. This was a prediction, not his final placement. I hope it is forthcoming.
  11. per Knoxville News Sentinel
  12. Some additional players: Gretchen Sutch, Soph, Belmont, former Catholic HS player was named to the ALL-Atlantic Sun Conference 1st Team. Laura Eldridge, SR., High Point University, former West HS player was named to the All Big-South Conference 1st Team. SAC All-Conference from Carson Newman: Trenna Howell, Oak Ridge HS, 1st Team; Melissa Morris, Sweetwater HS, 1st Team; Morgan Gruenfelder, Sweetwater HS, 2nd Team and also made the SAC All-Tournament Team
  13. Seriously, I do think that the physicality of soccer, especially girls soccer has been promoted and condoned by some coaches, as well as parents. And then ignored by some refs because it didn't necessarily interrupt play. This has given way to the slippery slope where physical play has been tolerated, and to a degree substituted for skilled play. There is a difference between physical play within the LOTG and general intimidation and purposefully inflicting pain. Bottom line rests with us, as parents, and more responsibility by the coaches, and enforcement by the refs.
  14. See.....my point exactly, that's why slide tackles should be outlawed in HS, now look at the mess we have
  15. anyone have any info about this game next week-end?
  16. There is no excuse for what was permitted by the officials. I understand that they can't see everything, but there were multiple incidents throughout the game that needed to be addressed. Also the players need to be held accountable, just as in the Florida Brandon Spikes 'eye poke' incident. Too many sports have become more physical as an excuse for less skill. Basketball is another example. The unforunate fall-out from this is that younger players, including high schoolers, are going to see this and accept it as a way to play unless the coaches and administrators show that 'crime' doesn't pay.
  17. From an eyewitness: OR scored 1st, then Franklin scored on a PK. 1-1 at half. Franklin scored early into the 2nd half and held on to win 2-1.
  18. Oak Ridge 2 Siegle 0 with 28 minutes remaining

  20. I agree it is a 'club or no club' issue. Which equates to the underlying socio-economic base of the school. Greeneville draws from a fairly large, identifiable area; crosses a large range of family incomes. The privates have a greater percentage of moderate to high income families which give them greater access to the expensive club environment. I think this can also be seen in golf, tennis, and swimming. It's neither good or bad, just the way it is. The standard sports of football, basketball, track have a similar but more diluted influence. I think that if one has a child athlete, and they want to play any sport, it is becoming more obvious to me that this needs to be given some consideration in choosing which school a child should attend, at least to some degree, along with the academic considerations.

  22. onyl if the own goal does not pad one's own stats
  23. Well transam, that all sounds well and good.......but can you tell me when points 1-5 will be the rule instead of the exception....after all, "owe it to these young ladies to make sure". Let me point out I have nothing against slide tackling as part of the game. So far, 'knock-on-wood", that has not been a factor in my daughter's history. I happen to see this from the medical point of view. Much research is done in sports medicine by various organizations in trying to promote safer play in ALL sports. Your daughter plays club, would she really miss the slide tackles for 3 mos of HS? In some games you never see it. But I'll go back to my previous post, I'm looking at the new players coming up to HS, and the many club players who are saying it's not worth the risk of playing HS due to increase chance of injury from the unskilled. But get points 1-5 solved overnite, and I would say 'Play On'.
  24. I'm not persuaded, plus we are talking about girls HS soccer. This has no effect on the college game. It is rare that a HS player going to college, doesn't play club soccer...where you can tackle to your heart's content. Plus, after the foul the damage is done. Fractures about the leg and ankle do suck, but they are not a freak occurance. Please review previous post about the FIFA stats. Injuries are much more common in females, especially younger females, so I'm not talking about males and post HS. Everyone seems to complain about the quality of the refs.....that's not going to change overnite, if at all. You're not going to 'coach-up' every girl every year either. After another month, I'm back to club, so those of you with players with HS years remaining, it's up to you one way or the other, but I don't think anyone that has seen HS soccer and especially that has taken an interest in this thread can deny that there should be some steps taken to review slide tackles.
