  1. Bragg had a great start to the game and that is probably the best I have seen him play. If he would become a team player I think he might get some college looks, but he does not have a good feel for the court. I am surprised Coach Turnham puts up with it. I thought it was a good team effort by Blackman. David Barnes came up big on the boards and Alex Carter had some really big 3's. Alex is one of the most unselfish players in the district. He had some great assists. Barnes and Carter both had a really good game and I think both are very underrated players. Most posters give props to the players on their schools team, and a big part of those are very overrated, but fail to recognize the good players in the district. Everyone knows Barnes is a good player but I am amazed at how little is posted about Alex. In my opinion one of the best players in the district. Blackmanpride I would think you would be bragging, but I don't think I have seen you post anything about Carter. Blackman's freshmen are helping out but they have a long way to go. They may play a lot of minutes but they make a lot of mistakes. I thought Paul Stephens did a nice job while he was in. I think Bragg's early start took Riverdale out of their game. Blackman only won by 9 and that was Blake's early points. I thought Riverdale played with them after that and though they made runs Blackman would pull away each time. I was not disappointed in the play and since I like both teams was happy for Blackman. Kevin Smith is such an athlete and his dunks were very impressive, but I was most impressed by his outside game. He has definetly improved. Scott couldn't seem to get things going and Young did not have one of his better games. I look forward to the games this week. I will have a hard time deciding if I am going to watch Blackman/Siegel or Riverdale/Oakland. I think I would prefer to watch Oakland play over Siegel.
  2. I am really looking forward to the game on Friday. I try to catch either a Blackman or a Riverdale game when they are playing at home, so I will probably be rooting for both teams. I think Riverdale and Blackman will be pretty well matched. Young has been doing a good job inside and I think he and Brown will be a good matchup. Blackman has some good height but not a lot of experience inside. I give Riverdale the edge for point guard. I give Blackman the edge for outside shooting with Barnes and Carter, but I give Riverdale the edge with Thomas as the best all around guard. I think if Riverdale can win the rebounding battle and Blackman's inside guys would kick it out to their outside shooters we will have a great game. I haven't seen either team since before the holidays. Can't wait, hoping for a high scoring game!!!!
  3. I thought Riverdale looked awesome last night. They relaxed a little in the second half but pulled it out. Tends to happen when you have an easy first half. I haven't seen Oakland but I have seen Blackman, and I think if Blackman can stay with Oakland with Barnes and Mims out then the race for first may be between Blackman and Riverdale. Carter is good but Blackman does not have another outside shooter except for Barnes. With him out defenses are going to key on Carter. Kid needs to adjust and the coach needs to give him some help. If you get both Carter and Barnes going in the same game they are going to win a lot of games. The Cutter kid had a nice run after the half but Siegel also has another outside hitter which takes pressure off of Cutter and makes the defenses account for both of them. How about Scott Thomas? What a game. I don't know about everyone else but I think Young has been the surprise player for Riverdale this year. He has really come through in some games.
  4. Thanks. I guess I will go to Riverdale. Heard Blackman was going to be without two of it's starters so the Riverdale/Siegel game will probably be the better game.
  5. I know Blackman is playing Oakland and Riverdale is playing Siegel on Tuesday night. Can someone tell me who the home teams are? Trying to decide which one to go to.
  6. QUOTE(inappropriate81 @ Nov 30 2006 - 02:25 PM) * im gonna say that your an idiot, they can beat smryna wow im impressed a ha aha ha ha ha theres a reason jafarious didnt want to stay cuz blackman is garbage laugh.gif I based my immature comments on the quote above. This is only one if you want to scroll back through. I agree blackmanpride08 makes as many as anyone else. You make some good points and I don't really have a dog in this fight. I am not a Siegel or Blackman supporter. I was only making comments about Blackman because I have seen them play and they don't have any posters to speak of. My point is if you have seen the teams let's talk about the game but if not reserve comments until you have. Can any of you making comments honestly say you have seen them play?
  7. You are right. I should have stated a few of the posters instead of referring to all.
  8. You Siegel posters are the reason everyone has no respect for Siegel. I doubt that any of you have seen anyone in the district play this year except for Siegel. Yet you make comments and immature remarks about the other schools. You can't base how you think a team will be this year based on the players you saw last year. Siegel is definetly a different team. In it's first few years Blackman had contenders in most of it's sports. The last couple of years have been rebuilding years for them. I have only seen them once this year but I can tell you they are a better team than last year. Also, having a good team for a couple of years does not make a team an elite program.
  9. You are right. I for one think Burks is a decent coach. He definetly has the talent.
  10. I don't know much about him except from seeing him play Riverdale last year at Blackman. He was the main reason Blackman beat us. I heard he hit 3 3's against Smyrna in less than a minute but when I saw the game on Saturday most of his shots were 2's. I saw him play some at MTSU camp this summer and I wouldn't have called him weak. He made some amazing shots and plays against Bradley Central. He has a complete game. He probably dished out more assists than the point guards. He could have had more points but is a very unselfish player. He doesn't look like he has added much weight since last year but I think he is a little taller. Very lanky.
  11. If you don't think coaching has a lot to do with it you don't know basketball. Just ask Blackman. I was over watching the games at Riverdale this weekend and Blackman was at the mercy of their coach. I'm sure the guy was doing the best he could but he kept running players in and out. Some of the players they were playing needed to stay on the bench. The Carter kid is why they were in the game. I believe the reason most of you have not heard about him is the fact Blackman doesn't have the posters on Coacht the other schools do. Believe me all the players and coaches in the district know about him. By the way I though Riverdale looked great if a little sloppy. Thomas really looked good considering he just started practicing.
  12. Sorry on the spelling. Never know what to do with my i's and e's.
  13. It would be nice if during the season we could have mature conversations about basketball in the boro without the petty name calling and derogatory comments about each teams school and players. Tyler Cutter is a very talented athlete and I think he will have a great year. He has been surrounded by talent his career at siegel and on his summer team. When you are not the main man and there are others around you as talented, it allows you to have more opportunities. We will see how he responds this year and I think he will do well. Blackman on the other hand was building a team and they had several people step up. To say Blackman does not have talent is a comment by someone who does not know basketball. siegel has gotten all of the press the last two years so everyone knew about their players. Blackman, Riverdale, and Oakland will be more competitive this year and I think you will learn more about their teams. We all know about Allen at Oakland, Smith and Thomas at Riverdale, and those that know basketball know about Bragg, Barnes, and Carter. The freshmen will make and impact and I can assure you by the end of the year we will know their names.
  14. Evidently, it has been a while since you seen Mims. I saw them in camp at MTSU and he was throwing us some 3's. Guy is very physical and if he can stay disciplined, will make an impact. I think Blackman could be a surprise. With one more win they could have finished third in the district last year with a young team. I think the addition of Mims with the return of Bragg, Barnes, Carter and a few key freshman could be interesting. The Carter kid is a heck of a player and Bragg could be if he would be more of a team player. I don't think they will beat Oakland or Riverdale but I think they could finish as high as third. The Cutter kid at siegel will be the go to guy and I think he will respond well. It depends on the supporting cast as to how well they do in the district. When siegel started they were so loaded and I would not have been surprised to see Harris leave when they all graduated. Blackman's coach abandoned ship when Price, Phillips, and Lee graduated. Sometimes coaches do that, but I think Blackman got a better coach. I can't wait for the season and I am ready to follow Riverdale and Blackman. Good luck to the others but I hope they come out on top, in that order.
  15. I agree. You make some good points. I'm sure we don't know everything that has happened but I'm sure he will have some type of punishment or consequence. At least I would hope he would be held accountable.
  16. You guys miss the point. Everyone needs a 2nd chance. None of us are perfect and we all make mistakes. From what I have heard he was a good kid, did not cause trouble, but made a stupid mistake. If he screws up again then kick him off. I watched some of the local teams at the MTSU camp. Oakland is the team to beat in the district but I was most impressed with Riverdale ( a little biased). They have some good looking athletes. The Smith kid is impressive with his dunks but I am more impressed by a good 3 point shooter. Didn't see siegel, someone said they were there the week before. I think the Cutter kid will be their go to guy. Kid has a lot of talent and is an aggressive player. He has had the benefit of playing with a lot of talent at siegel over the last couple of years. It will be interesting to see what he does when the opposing teams are locked in on him. What other players do they have on their team? There is no question the Allen kid is the best player in the district. He got better as the year went along. Wade has a lot of up and down games. I am not sure what goes on there. It seems to be a lack of confidence. Kid is a great athlete. The Maupin kid is so quick and a really good point guard. Every team needs a point guard who can get it to the key players. I was impressed with Blackman at camp. I know there was some mention of Chase Randall on a previous post but I did not see him get much playing time. Coach did not seem to happy with him. Bragg, Mims, and Carter got most of the playing time. Mims is really going to help this team a lot. They need some physical players inside. Bragg is such an athlete but he makes some terrible decisions. He is not a team player. He needs to look for the open man. If he could improve that part of his game Blackman could be a contender. The Carter kid was impressive in camp. He really took a beating in some of the games. He needs to pack on some pounds so he can hang in there with the big guys. I seen him play a couple games last year. He sees the court well is unselfish and can hit the 3 in pressure situations. He needs to get a little more agressive. Blackman also played a freshman at center. If he can adjust to the speed of high school ball I have a feeling he is going to play varsity this year. If they can get Barnes back they could have a good team. I'm ready for bball in the boro!!!!!
