  1. Good luck to the Owls. If you add Smyrna's and Ooltewah's quarterbacks together, you still don't equal B.J. Coleman. Prediction? Owls make it to the title game......
  2. B.J. Coleman was offered a scholarship by Tennessee before the year started. They obviously think he's "worth it." B.J. is the best quarterback to come out of the state of Tennessee in a long time. If anyone disagrees, refer to the UT coaching staff.
  3. You saw it, I didn't. If it's true, that's all we need to know about the TSSAA. Oh yeah, congratulations to the fine people and team of Brentwood Academy. Another gold ball to add to the trophy cases. And to McCallie.......excellent job. After listening to the radio broadcast, I knew it wasn't over. Not until the final whistle blew.
  4. I wasn't at the game so it would be inappropriate for me to comment. However, if what you're saying is true, it doesn't surprise me in the least.
  5. McCallie still belongs on that list. No questions/debate about it....
  6. Congratulations to Brentwood Academy. Both schools had fine seasons and there should be more great games in the future. To McCallie, we're all proud of your effort. Typical McCallie team that never gives up. To all Ooltewah fans, we are all pulling for you. Best wishes to the Owls!!!!!
  7. Here we go again. No soreness over here. I was reminiscing over the Catholic/Webb thread where you showed how much of an idiot you truly are. Looks like I'm gonna have to start calling you Forrest Gump. Hey Gump, maybe you could give us an in-depth and philosophical analysis of the game of American football? Does the team that scores the most points win? Is the forward pass still illegal? Do tell? Of all the debates I've been in on CoachT, you might be the biggest "toolbox" of them all.
  8. Don't listen to gridironguy. I've had to go "through it" with him in the past. He has the cognitive ability of a Sheep.
  9. And if Riverdale wins 5A? I've heard you "victimize" Alcoa long enough. In case you don't realize, everyone is aware that Alcoa is a 2A school; technically, so is McCallie. Actually, most schools is Division II are 2A and 3A size. What does that say about their dominance since the split?
  10. Yes, you can play out of your conference/district/region. However, from my experiences, you'd have to travel to Florida to play a high school football game. Look at Brentwood Academy, MUS, and MBA. Both BA and MBA travelled to Louisville, Kentucky. MUS went to St. Augustine, Florida. The problem with playing out of your region works in theory, but a lot of schools in Tennessee refuse to schedule those games.
  11. It's very comforting to know that common sense still exists in this world....
  12. Yes ma'am. I've lived in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, and New York. Sadly, Tennessee (home state) lags far behind the rest of these when it comes to high school athletics; especially when it comes to this whole public-private debacle.
  13. I won't even justify this with a response...... You might see things differently when you're a little older, but I have been surprised before. As far as, "call it what you want," well, I didn't spin anything. I stated the facts. Of course, it's not possible to know the inner-workings of each private school, but I don't pretend to know. You, on the other hand......
  14. "Separated to be fair?" Is it just me or is that an inherent contradiction? I don't think you need industry for thousands of alumni, wherever they may be, to shell out $15 or $20 for their former schools. I'm sure a lot of those individuals are very successful people that would like nothing more than to ensure the future success of their high schools. Many thanks to your husband for his 21 years of service to our great country.
  15. I think he was just using 5A schools (used to be 3A until classifications were modified). I believe both Red Bank and Cleveland were playing in 4A when they won their championships?
  16. Very nice research. I'd like to see it after population statistics are factored in.
  17. My apologizes sportiemom. I made the mistake of speculating, like a a lot of pro-split people do, that quality academics cannot be found at public schools. That's not what I meant to say. I'm glad you raised the issue of money. Why is it that some private schools have been "criminalized," or perhaps demonized because of the support from donors and alumni? Think about the number of graduates from public schools, especially the larger ones. If these alumni were still involved with their alma maters money would not be an issue. As to you last sentence, well, doesn't that send the wrong message (separating for sports)?
  18. I've been through this a million times, but here we go again. Division II schools do not, let me repeat, do not offer athletic scholarships. They offer need-based financial aid that is determined by a third-party source. Let me say that again; third-party source (i.e. Princeton, NJ). Financial statements, tax returns, etc. are used by THIRD-PARTY SOURCES to determine how much aid a student will need and how much his/her parents will have to pay based on tuition rates. If a student does receive aid he/she must maintain a certain GPA, usually very high at some of the well-known prep schools, to keep that aid. Some of the larger prep schools offer merit scholarships. In those cases, the student must have a 3.5 GPA and several recommendations from outside sources other than family to even be considered. In case you didn't catch that, those are MERIT, not athletic scholarships. Division II was created, albeit against a few objections, to group schools together that offer financial aid. It had absolutely nothing to do with scholarships. Are you a Red Bank fan? You'll be happy to know that Gerald Riggs, Jr. was turned away from McCallie because of grades. Wait, I thought some of these schools, such as Baylor, MBA, MUS, etc. offer athletic scholarships? I guess academics has nothing to do with it?
  19. Nothing will change until public schools can provide young adults with the things that private schools can. See academics, facilities, community support for examples.
  20. Maybe you can share your inside information with the rest of us? I mean, since you want to make things fair. By looking at your post you seem to know a lot. Why don't you list the private schools that recruit and the ones that do not? We can start there, contact the TSSAA and turn them in. One day when you're all grown up you'll realize that life isn't fair. Good for CPA! They can hire coaches with knowledge and experience, but hey, they should be punished for this?
  21. Being forced to play Alcoa five times might be considered cruel and unusual?
