  1. Update on Will McKamey from his mom on FB. Will has a brain bleed from blunt trauma, they are continuing to monitor him to see if surgery is needed. Please continue to pray. And a big thank you to all the fine folks at South Pitt, very hospitable and you guys have a great atmosphere. You are great fans and a class act.
  2. Heard it was a one year ban on post season play for all sports effective immediatly, and a two year ban on football and basketball.
  3. I failed to mention that part. I had heard that they were probably not going to interview everyone on the list. Only those that are most qualified. After that I am sure they will need to conduct second interviews with the best prospects in order to make a final selection. Last I heard, they were getting closer, and with the new strength and conditioning coaches that are employed by Knox County, the off season workouts are probably the same at this point regardless of who the coach is. I do agree that a coach does need to be in place before spring practice begins, and I am sure that everyone in the Gibbs community who have ties to the football program are becoming restless with anticipation. Hopefully something will transpire in the next few days.

    District 3 - AA

Hey B.C., You should know its gonna be pretty much the same as always, Gibbs, Seymour, maybe Carter usually at the top Alcoa can always be a contender as well, I think the biggest deciding factor will be pitching. Bounds is gone from Carter, but Housewright and Burchell are gone from Gibbs. I think that leaves a junior and a senior at Carter not sure what their names are and it leaves Turner and Armstrong at Gibbs. I think all of Seymour's big guns are gone. Probably wont know much until the middle of April since that's when district race really heats up. Oh yea I will see what can be done about those bleachers okay.
  5. I don't know much about what is going on except that GHS admin has recieved over 40 applications for the position. I heard they have been interviewing 3 or 4 a week. This is probably the best they can do since the state has now mandated that every teacher must be observed every two years now, which means the admin must observe at least half of their teachers every year, this along with all the other duties such as discipline, and the many many principle meetings they must attend away from the school. Sorry I can't offer much more than that. I would be interested to know if anyone knows who may have already been interviewed.
  6. I am not part of the hiring process. I have no say in the hiring process of any school. I doubt my input would make much difference anyway. I just know how the hiring process at Knox County goes. I have coached different sports for over 15 years, from 4 year olds through high school. (I have coached at several schools in three counties, including Knox, Union, and Sullivan) I know a great deal of the coaches. At present time, I am only a fan and I am a big football fan, and I truly enjoy high school football because the majority of the players play because they love the game not for money or fame. Unless you drop down to youth football, high school is the least corrupt level of any sport where the players are concerned. I know, as most everyone else, that politics do play a role in all levels of most sports, at varying degrees depending on the community, coach and the parents, but at this level (high school) the athletes are not a part of it. I am also interested in who is going to coach at Lenoir City, Union City, Spring Hill, and Soddy Daisy. Still waiting to hear if Coach Hammer at Rutledge is going to give it up or continue on as the coach of the Grizzley's at the new Grainger County High School. If Coach Householder retires after next season I will be interested in who is going to coach at Seymour. Good luck to all the applicants.
  7. The Lady Eagles struggled against the Lady Pioneers tonight without their leading scorer and point guard Taylor Mills. But they finally pulled it out 52-46 with some of the most horrible officiating I have ever witnessed. I will give the officials credit they were consistant, they called it terrible both ways. Good luck to both teams in the future.
  8. They probably will not start interviewing until after Christmas break, probably second week of January. As for Coach Jessie, all I have at this time is that he started teaching in 1999, and he is a PE teacher. I do have a phone number for him, and I will attempt to contact him maybe sometime this week without being too forward. I was trying to find out where he went to high school and college. Does anyone have that information.
  9. The Lady Eagles are 9-0 and are beating their opponents by an average of 20 pts. Taylor Mills (Soph.) put up 30 against AE they beat them by 20. Against Fulton the Cavalaris had 16 pts, Mills and Morgan Burnette each put up 15. They beat the Lady Falcons by 25. They are averaging about 70 points per game. Burnette and Jaimie Cabage are usually leading the rebounding in the prepXtra stats. Last year they made it to the region with 5 sophomores and 5 freshmen. This year they have 5 juniors, 3 sophomores and 2 freshmen on the varsity team. After the starting five and Kari Loy (sophomore) there is very little difference between the bench players. The Lady Eagles have gotten very little respect so far this year. I am sure they get beaten by someone, but for the moment they are flying high work their tails off. Coach Bray and Coach Everette are both class acts, they could have beaten some of their opponents by more than 50. Even with the 2nd string in they are able to score relatively easily at times. Good luck to both teams tonight I hope everyone plays hard and no-one is injured.
  10. Insidescoop, Sorry, you are correct about Coach Atkins. My mind was thinking one thing and my fingers typed something different. My apologies.
  11. I am not backlash. I am not sure who he is. I have never mentioned either playing for or having a son that plays for GHS. I have also not talked down about any of the coaches or the program. With that said, can someone give me some information about the Cumberland Gap coach? What is his name (Full Name Fist and Last)? When did he coach at CG? Did he also coach in Kentucky somewhere? I would be more than glad to research him and attempt to contact him.
  12. Okay here is some information about the coaching position at Gibbs and some answers to some other questions. No one had applied for the position before Monday Dec. 3 2007. That is because Knox County had not advertised the position until that date. The position will be posted/advertised for two weeks (until Dec. 14 2007) as per Knox County policy. At that point a list with the names of "qualified" (qualified according to Knox County Schools) applicants will be sent to the administration at GHS (this usually takes about a week) at which point they will have to interview everyone on the list. Usually the admin will narrow that list down and call applicants for a second interview. I am sure this will probably not happen until after the Christmas break (every school's admin have other things to worry about than hiring a coach, however they realize the importance of a coach being named as soon as possible). For the 2007 season the coaching assignments at GHS were: Randy Carroll - Head Coach - LB/TE coach Chris Jones - QB coach - Offensive Coordinator - JV Offensive Coordinator Steve Edmonds - DB/RB Defensive Coordinator Brad Turner - WR/DE - JV Head Coach Todd Atkins - QB/DB - Freshman Offensive Coordinator Geff Davis - Line - Freshman Head Coach - Freshman Defensive Coordinator Brent Wright - Line - JV Defensive Coordinator In addition to this, Chris Jones Attended Jefferson Co. High School and also coached at Carter. He played baseball for Carson Newman Teaches History at GHS and Coaches Baseball at GHS Steve Edmonds attended Powell High School and has coached nowhere else. Teaches Driver Ed. at GHS Brad Turner attended GHS and played for Randy Carroll and played baseball at Carson Newman and coached at Sacred Heart. Teahces Wellnes and PE at GHS Todd Atkins attended GHS and played for Randy Carroll and has coached nowhere else. Teaches Science at Holston Middle school where he coaches Boys Basketball and he also coaches Track at GHS. Geff Davis attended GHS and only played only Freshman Football but played basketball and baseball at GHS. He also played baseball at Cumberland College and for the Montreal Expos. He teaches Business at GHS Brent Wright attended GHS where he played for Randy Carroll and attended one year at ETSU where he played football. He is not a teacher, he is a nonfaculty coach. About some of the people who are interested in the position. This is unofficial of course, but I have personally spoke to each one of these. Geff Davis Baseball Coach - NO Brad Turner - YES Mike Potter (Fulton) - Maybe, he is waiting until after this weekend's championship game. Houston Qualls - YES Buck Coatney - More than likely NO I do not have any information about the Coach Jessie from Cumberland Gap
  13. How do you go about ranking the wrestlers? Will I find the ranking on www.tennwrestling.com under the rankings and polls link (where last years state predictions are?) Just wondering.
  14. Anybody got any ideas about the tip Freshmen in the Knoxville area? Was anyone at the Karns tournament this past weekend. I heard Gibbs had a couple of pretty good ones. I think their 119 pounder went undefeated (with a forfiet) and I think their 130 pounder looked pretty good. Two pins, and was ahead in his third match until he was dq'd for tech violations, you know freshman junk like locked hands and stuff, but he looked pretty good, anybody got any information on him? I think his name is Jenkins.
  15. Does anyone know who South Doyle's or Bearden's 130 pounder is this year? Just let me know if you dont care. Or does anyone know where I can find rosters for the area high schools?
