Like I said several days back on this very thread, it doesn't add up. If I was a high school baseball coach in Florida who was winning Region Championships, getting Coach of the Year Honors, etc., why would I come to Tennessee period; not to mention East Ridge. It's not like he was coming to Germantown because he heard they were ranked in the top 20 in the USA Today and had 7 Division 1 Early Signees returning. The guy must have some other motive for moving than he wanted to teach algebra at East Ridge. Something in Florida wasn't so sunny ... or he would have stayed. Florida is a baseball hotbed. I'm also curious who the new coach has scheduled for this season. Rumor has it he has stayed away from scheduling larger schools. I agree with the two previous posts. You can say what you want to about Coach Coffman; but you can't say he wasn't a hard worker. He did all of the work around there. The team improved tremendously last year. He had paid his dues and waited patiently. Here is his reward. Since everyone has built up the new coach so much, I hope for his sake, they win 30 games this year. If they do, I'll be in line to purchase one of those instructional videos that he supposedly made.

Forgot to ask ... why so much research and investigation about East Ridge and Hixson? Are you a private investigator? Also, what is negative at Hixson?

No knock on East Ridge or any local program, but a reasonable question: If the ER coach is so good, why did he come from Florida to southeast TN? It's baseball season 12 months out of the year in Florida. I suspect more to his move than he wanted to put ER on the baseball map. Also, I heard that last year's ER coach was a first year head coach who improved the teams record from the previous year by at least 10 games. Why did he only get one year if there was so much improvement?

Rodney Ballard - RB - East Ridge Class of 1984. Best white running back that I've seen. Signed with UT. Enrolled. Redshirted. Didn't attend class (or got into some sort of trouble). Came home. Signed the same year as Keith Davis who was starter at RB on the '85 SEC Championship Sugar Bowl win over Miami team. Possibly could have been a contributor on that team. Was supposed to get an opportunity to run the ball, not get moved to defense as many white backs do. This guy was unbelievable. Does anyone else remember him?

Bolivar, you've been plugging East Ridge. What can you tell us about their new coach? Isn't Bolivar a place in West TN? Just curious.

Didn't Coach Mullinax resign a couple of years ago? Then he changed his mind and the team went to the quarterfinals. Also heard that Bill Price of Bradley resigned. Who will be the next coaches at McMinn and Bradley?

I know this is the baseball board, not football ... but, I heard a rumor that Coach Price resigned as the football coach. Is this true? How will it affect baseball. I heard he was big on the year round football thing.

Why is it that sports can't share athletes? Most schools have weight training as a class now and athletes can lift year round. Playing other sports should only help a football player in numerous ways. They get experience participating in pressure situations to name just one example. I think it is foolish for any coach to go to war with lesser athletes rather than share athletes with other sports. Unless, of course, the athlete doesn't work hard at each of his/her sports. Sometimes, it seems multiple sport athletes have their "main sport" and the other sport(s) is their "hobby." I think if they play multiple sports they must give them equal attention.

I was wondering what the comment by realsoccer, "(referring to Baylor) they are casting the net wide," means? Are you insinuating that Baylor's admission standards have lowered? Or that they are recruiting a more ethnically diverse population?

It seems like Bradley is good in a lot of male sports (and female sports too for that matter). I know wrestling, basketball, and baseball are all very good. Is it possible that many of the sports are encouraging their athletes to specialize in only one sport? If so, that is a shame that coaches won't allow participation in multiple sports. Also, Coach Price is very demanding from what I hear. Is it possible that kids today don't want to work that hard?

Do the people in SD still praise Bill Price after the Trojans defeated him?

Guitarman, Riggs was the best player but the state champion team was loaded. Great line, great defense, good quarterback and receivers, the other backs were really good. They would have been real tough even without Riggs. No doubt that Riggs got them over the hump. I agree that there were several "early exits" in the playoffs ... but who was there every year. When Weathers made the state finals in 1979, Riggs wasn't born.
