  1. Forget about the Greene Devil fans for a minute. Will the band have to show up 5 minutes before half time and leave right after they finish play? Or show up before the game and mark there spot on the bleachers? We had better show up early so we can get a seat for the game Devil Fans. To quote Bob Dylan "The times they are a changen".
  2. Greene Coach get ready to take a trip to South Greene, West Greene, and C-D.
  3. My heart is totally crushed. I think that the former players and coaches that have played against the best that East Tennessee has had to offer is now going to some places that they haven't been. You can point fingers at whomever, but when it comes down to it-just win baby is the main reason for the move. I have tried to justify the move but I just can't do it. I never once heard Fred Sorrells say one thing about winning a state championship. He taught many of kids how to play football and place moral values above all else. Wining was what happened when you prepared will and executed the game plan. What would men like Gene King, Joe O??™Dell, Mike Franklin and Jack Blair have to say about this? Just Ask Them.
  4. Give the boys from North Green some credit here. They are not just going to show up and let West Greene score at will. Coach Smith and Coach McKnight are good coaches. They have worked hard getting the program going. Little Joe has had better players and adminstration to work with. Now times have changed since David McClain has become principal. Just because of the records and stats, I would not take a 56 point spread. Good luck to both teams.
  5. I do believe that Coach Rider and his staff are working hard to turn around the Volunteer program. Scheduling Clintwood was not a good team to schedule in VA. They should have Pound, Hurley, Twin Valley, Coburn, Rye Cove and so on. Coach Rider should have talked to his dad to find out who to play and who not to play since he has coached in Southwest Virginia. I know the people in Clintwood are very proud of their Green Wave. It must have been a good game.
  6. One thing that everyone forgets is that Z replaced a legend at Greeneville. Fred Sorrells and his coaching staff was a dominate force in east Tennessee for 25 years. I think that Coach Zeller did a good job coaching with what he had. When you have to dismiss you starting QB for back talking with 2 games left to go in the season (his last), thats having morals and not putting winning instead of teaching values. I hope that my son will have an opportunity to be coached under a God loving coach like Coach Sorrells or Coach Zeller. I wish the Greene Devils good luck. They will win 28-14! Stop the outside veer!
  7. You have forgotten that his other nephew Shawn who is the head coach at Elizabethton. He also played at Tech.
  8. Don't count out North Greene! They have worked hard this summer. Their coach has more experience than all of the other head coaches in the county combined. Plus they have gained a jewel coach in Coach McKnight. They have good things going and there is support from the school and the community.
  9. The school I coached at the same high school since 1993 got a new head coach last year and brought in a new staff. I spent all summer with my hands in my pockets and not coaching much as summer workouts went on. After summer work outs were over, I asked the new coach if I could go to the middle school where I could at least have hands on coaching. He was not happy, but let me go down. I was the best thing that could of happened to me. I hope this year that some of the men I have worked with for years will put their pride away and come down so we can coach together.
  10. I believe that Jordan needs help. Dealing with all he has had to deal with in the past couple of years is just too much for a young man to handle. I think that he needs a new start and this would be without any sports at the high school level. He can play traveling baseball and maybe that will give him enough exposure to fill his ego. I hope the school, coaches, and administration think about this situation and make the right decision. This will set a president for things to come.
  11. I am glad that you feel better. Now maybe all have to is be an assistant at your jobfor 5 before I can be cleared by your boss to take your job! All coaches pay a price. Coaching is about the kids, but read the post!
  12. I know alot of young qualified teachers who want to coach and can't because of non-faculty coaches. Our system has had problems getting the best coaches because they hire coaches that do not teach! If I all you had to is be an assistant for 5 years to have your job I think that you might rethink what you have said. Good coaching jobs are hard to find. Parents and others are hurting the teaching/high school coaching by supporting coaches that don't teach. We need teachers coaching because they can work with the child during school - mentally and physically. 13. If the school uses Pepsi products! Enjoy.
  14. There is more to coaching than dealing with players. You have to line off the field during your planning period. You have to order bats, balls, and deal with a million other things including upset parents. IF you haven't paid the price to coach at the high school level then coach at some lower level. And that price is going to college and getting a teaching degree and spending time learning the game under good head coaches! We all have our place in life. Some of us are placed in the positions we like and others don't. A great coach once said "The difference between a person with a high school diploma, a B.S. degree and a master's degree is not how smart a person is, but how hard a person is willing to work toward something".

  16. It comes down to this; if you don't want your child to play for a coach, then don't let them play. I am firm believer that the #1 thing a child goes to school for is an education, not to play sports. Playing sports is an extension of the school day. I am not saying that the best coaches have teaching degrees, but the best coaches are teachers! As far college coaches having master??™s degrees, I do not know any coach on the University of Tennessee, UVa, or Virginia Tech's staff that does not have a master??™s degree. I do not know about Walter State and schools like that! If you want someone who drives a Coke truck till 3:30 and then coaches her till 6:00, then let her play travel ball all year. I love my job and will work hard for the kids I coach! That's the commitment that I made when I started my college degree. If you do not want your child to play for your schools coach, then don't let her play! It's just that simple.
  17. And there are alot of parents that do not need to be parents. But you have to pay a price to coach at certain levels and going to college is a price that you have to pay to coach high school ball. If you want to coach little league or travel ball then it does not matter what type of education you have. Talk to any college coach that you want your daughter to play for and ask them whay type of education they have --- it might matter. By the way, they will all have at least a masters degree. Think about it.
  18. I went to college to teach and coach. If somebody that wants to coach at the high school level then he or she needs to get a degree in education and find a job in teaching and coaching, and then, and only then is it O. K. for them to coach at the high school level. These summer traveling teams are fine for the men and women who do not want to teach. We all know that there are certain expectations that we are held accountable for, and sadly softball is a sport that is sometimes overlooked when it comes down to coaching strengths. But you have to pay a price to coach and mine was a 4 year college degree, a 2 year masters degree and teaching all day before practice and games.
  19. Talk to your football coaches and see how they got their jobs! You might be suprised. Go to coaching clinics. Ask questions. Don't limit your self to one section of Tennessee or Tennessee for that matter. You have to go where the job's are. And remember on into your career why you got into this profession to start with. Let your wife you will not be home on Friday's until 3:30 Sat. morning. She will have to play father on Sunday when you are breaking down films. Monday is the "B" team game and finishing up the poop sheets to give players on Tuesday. Thursday, you are painting the field or watching the Freshman play. Friday is of course the game. Saturday is the only off day. So I hope you do choose the coaching profession, especially middle or high school. Good young are hard to find these days.
  20. Bobby's has had daughters in the band for some time now, so he had to go to the game and do the half-time announcing.
  21. Dan Hammonds would be a good start. Young coach with CC blood and connections. Still goes to church there every Sunday. Good man.
  22. O-lineman: Greeneville's Nathan Whitehead - he has played tackle for two years and now has played center. He is a good long snapper. Great feet and hands.
  23. Take it easy on Caleb. He comes from good stock. I know we have Jeremy and more. Don't forget the line and the special teams who will determine the difference in this game. A word of widsom to all new Greene Devil fans, the last time we were in Vegas it was Sullivan East who took all our money. Let's enjoy the pleasures these guys have brought all of us.
  24. I don't think the Mountain Conference is the WWE that you think it is. Look at your teams and your records! Learn not to cast stones. Besides Region 1 and Region 2 are both down this year. A decent team will face easy street to the 3rd round and then hit a wall in the 4th round! Good luck to Greeneville and that's the bottom line!
