  1. It has come to my attention tonight that my comment about the situation at Cookeville has offended some umpires. I want to start by applolgizing to the umpires of that game. I am not going to list thier name. They know who they are. I'm sorry if my comment did not come out the way I had intended it to. I meant no disrespect to the umpires in this game. For the most part I totally agreed with their calls. My only statement about the umpires that night was that I felt something should have been done when the kid hit one of our players. The player nor anyone on our team deserved it. I also did not mean to imply that they only warned Sparta when the Freshman hit their leadoff batter. They did warn both teams. However I don't understand why the warning came out then. We are talking about a Freshman who can be wild at times. You can ask around he has a tendancy to get a little wild. But Cookeville had a senior on the mound who has good control. He, as I have been told, the "best pitcher in the district". To the umpire on the bases I didn't mean to imply that you were in any way unfair. You have the right to your opinion as I have mine. I do feel however that your comment about them being a better ball club was a little uncalled for. I agree that Cookeville is a good ball club and as I said at the start of this thread they were better than us that night. They out hit us and played alot better defesively than we did. However during a game I don't believe a comment of that nature should have been made. That upset me and made me mad. Maybe I let my emotions get the better of me on here but I believe it was totally unfair. I would never look at an umpire and tell him that another umpire was better than he is. First off I would probably be tossed on the spot and secondly I would never show someone so much disrespect. However I do appologize for my comment earlier and I only hope you can move beyond this and not allow it to effect my team. I also hope the home plate umpire can look passed all of this and not allow this to effect his calls toward my team. I also strongly appologize to him. I would not have had any problem discussing the situation with the umpires after the game but they refused to speak to me after the J.V. game which followed. Several post on here sounded like Cookeville had the right to hit him and they didn't. I just don't believe it was right to hit the kid. I just strongly believe a warning should have been issued immedately or possibly even an ejection. But that is my opinion. Not my teams or any other person on the field or in the dugout. If an umpire does not agree with the post I have put on here than they can feel free to talk to me about it by adding a post or speaking to me before or after a game. My name is on here. I don't hide behind an alias. If you want to speak to me feel free. I will gladly back up anything I have said on here. Don't take it out on my players. Once again I applogize if I offended any umpire. That was not my attention. I just wanted all the facts put in place before any more of my players were accused of any wrong doing.
  2. I have to take a sec. to brag on one of my own players. Kyle Price for White Co. deserves some recoginiton. Kyle is a 2nd baseman by nature but we had to move him to SS and he has done an outstanding job for us this year. He really attacks the ball well and gets rid of the ball quickly. I'm very proud of him this year. Keep up the good work Kyle. He is only going to get better. He is only a junior and people don't realize how difficult it is to move from 2nd to SS. It is two totally different postions.
  3. The difference is the numbers. A large AAA school has more athletes to choose from. The number of athletes affect each sport. For example large AAA schools have maybe one or two athletes playing more than one sport. They have enough athletes they don't have to double up as much. Take a AA, A, or even a small AAA school and the number of athletes playing more than one sport grows. I know talking to teams in our district which is AAA with large schools except for us, Sparta, they only have one or two players playing another sport. In our case we have about 10 including freshman. Plus we lose athletes that are good in baseball to other sports. Now as far as should teams always beat other teams in a smaller class, of course not. Evereyone once and a while a small school will have a really talented team and can compete with larger schools. But this does not always happen. For example Baxter in the early 90's had an outstanding team. They beat many AAA schools. But the past few years some of that talent has not been there. Now I don't how they are doing this year I'm just giving an example.
  4. I agree easyone. You should never intentionally throw at another player unless the team does something to merrit it. I know in the Cookeville Sparta game this did not happen. The player that hit the homerun just simply ran around the bases and didn't even look at the pitcher. He in no way showed up the pitcher. My opinion is Cookeville was mad cause their star pitcher had just gave up two bombs to a Sophmore. They showed no class. I know for a fact it was intentional cause players on the other team were laughing about it and didn't know I was standing there. I guess to add to the arguement the umpire told me he didn't believe he would do on purpose so he wasn't going to warn him cause he knew the kid well and teaches in the Cookeville system and just really couldn't believe he would do that. He also proceeded to tell me that Cookeville was a better team than us. All this was during the game. Now in his defense he didn't make any real controversial calls. So I guess he was fair but how can an umpire make that statement. Of course an umpire that is that biasis is not going to throw out a player even if it is intentional. He did however give a warning after a Freshman who came in to throw hit the first kid. It is sad when a player can get away with things like that, even if it was not his fault and it was called from the dugout, Cookeville showed no class at all. This is not a different Cookeville team. They are the same they were the last several years. No discipline and no respect for anyone. The only real difference is they believe they are above the rules and apparently so does the umpires. All I can say is that I hope we get to face them in the district. There will be nothing sweeter than putting Cookeville out of the tournament.
  5. I'm wondering about the feeling of others at throwing at a player when that players team is down by 4 runs. At the Sparta-Cookeville game last night Cookeville intenitonally threw at a player after the kid before hit a two run homer. I know it was intenional cause the kid that was pitching has good control and threw the first pitch behind the hitter and then hit him with the second pitch. Normally I wouldn't say anything but the situation was not right for it. Cookeville was leading 10-6 after the homerun and the next batter was Sparta's pitcher. I felt this was an example of poor sportsmanship. There was no reason for it. The first pitch behind him was enough of a message but to throw at him a second time shows no class. And let me just say before Cookeville ball players and fans get on here and start shouting that I'm just whinning cause we got beat, Cookeville out played us last night. They were better than us defensively. We didn't make the routine plays and missed our spots on some pitches and Cookeville took advantage of that. They made the plays they had to make and we didn't. Point blank Cookeville was better than us Thursday just like we were better than them Tuesday. I just want to know everyone's opinion on the situation. Should he be thrown at or not.
  6. One of the best soph. around is Devan Taylor from White Co. He throws hard and has good command of his pitches. He also beat Cookeville. He gave up 9 hits but held them only to 4 runs 3 of which were earned. He is going to be real good in a few years if you stays on track.

  8. Coach Ward, Hey this is Coach Floyd from Sparta. Give me a yell sometime or e-mail me. I was just wondering how things have been going. It has been a real long time since we got to chat. shauntom@hotmail.com
  9. Hey David I don't know if you will check this or not but you have us down for 11 losses and it should only be 10. I'm talking about White Co. Thanks man
  10. White Co. Livingston Red Boiling Springs Oliver Springs York
  11. Ryan Daniels -catcher from White Co. This kid has some real potential. He continues to work at it and improves he will be on of the greatest around here in a while. J.J. Taylor- pitcher from White Co. This kid has already been throwing at the Varsity level and throws well. Not sure on the speed of his fastball but it is not bad for a Freshman. He definetly has potential. He reminds me alot of Rogowski when he was freshman.

Sorry but I don't recall Dekalb killing Sparta. I'm not sure exactly what you are refering too but yes Dekalb's sophmore and juniors beat my freshman but did not kill them. It was actually pretty close. So you might want to rethink them "winnin" it all this year.
