  1. If you don't think there is a slippery slope, then how about this.... Once upon a time there was a state champion high school football team. People complained about how unfair it was for small schools to play big schools. Eventually, that lead to 3 classifications. More people complained, so it went to 5 classifications. More people complained so now we have 8 state champions!!!. If we split public and private, we will probably have 9 state champions. Next people will want to create a division for open zone schools.... Then we will need to split those into large and small open zone schools.... Then we will need to address the disparity in rural, urban, and suburban districts.... Then we will split those into divisions based on the schools football budget.... There are probably plenty more things for people to come up with.... Again, unless everyone gets their championship, someone will be unhappy...
  2. That is tough for those teams... but they had great seasons. The point is not everyone can win a state championship.... How many super bowls have the Cleveland Browns been to? They got knocked out by the Denver Broncos several times in the 80's. Is that unfair for the Browns? Should the Broncos be penalized for being better? The Pittsburgh Steelers have won more than their fair share of super bowls. Should they now be disqualified from playing until all teams have been allowed to play? Or maybe we should create 2 super Bowls... 1 for teams that have won a super bowl and one for teams that haven't.... The Nashville Predators have never played in a Stanley Cup finals. Let's just let them play this year to be "fair". Again, trying to level the playing field is a slippery slope toward making a state championship a joke...
  3. Really? Is this the best argument you can come up with. I am pretty sure that winning championships does not ever get old... If this is a good idea then just assign 2 teams at the beginning of each year to play in the state championship. Then by your logic we can rotate it so it will be fun and fair to everyone.... You know give everyone a trophy! We can call it TSSAA communism. Everyone is equal right? I mean that is how the world works. Why should that guy get a promotion and not me. I don't care if he is smarter and works harder, I want that job. I'm sure that would go over well with the boss. I want to get paid as much as a doctor, so what if I have a high school diploma and he spent 4 years in college and 8 years in medical school! It's not fair!!!! I guess I could just work my butt off and go back to school but that would be hard. It would only be fair if my boss just gave me a big raise because I want it....
  4. So, in your big grand plan, running the private schools out will solve all of the world's problems? It will, only until that allows someone else to dominate. And if it isn't your school, then you can try and run them out also. You can keep doing this until your team can finally win. By then we will have 40 divisions and everyone can make the playoffs, and half the teams in the state can play in the championship game. It is so easy to blame failure on an unfair system... It is a lot harder to just find a way to compete.
  5. My point is that it easy to find things to complain about no matter what system you choose. I am far from a TSSAA cronie.... Travel will always be an issue no matter what happens. Sometimes a school like Centennial may have privately given their OK to tssaa that they don't mind travelling. As for the public-private split, it may seem very cut and dry to some people, but the tssaa execs probably realize that there could be many unforeseen consequences down the road. Maybe it is something that they are trying to work out and can't release anything publicly about it. To just assume that they aren't listening is probably a far stretch from reality. You may not like how they are handling, but I am sure they have their reasons. Anyone who runs an organization knows that there is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes than what everyone knows....
  6. Why do you think it is detrimental? What logistical problems do you think it has? How is this not better than what we have been doing for the last 2 years? Why do you think that so many people are opposed to this plan? I am pretty sure they are listening to their constituents, just not the ones you want them too....
  7. Exactly my point... You don't "believe" they follow the rules, but you don't really know. Also, there is no such thing as a private school division- there is financial aid and non-financial aid schools. Since they do not give financial aid, then they are in the correct division. It makes me laugh to think that just because someone is successful they must be doing something wrong.
  8. No... you are wrong, no financial aid may be given to a player that plays in a varsity game. That is part of the problem with all of this. Everyone thinks they know the rules, but few people really do....
  9. I am not a CPA fan. However, some of the arguments on here against them just don't make any sense. Find a high school in America where all of the graduates went to the same school all the way from Kindergarten on. I am pretty sure you won't find it. People move and change schools all the time. Find a metro Nashville school where the roster doesn't change multiple times every year if not every week. Find a Metro Nashville school where coaches aren't talking to players about their cousin from another school who should come to school at ......(East, Pearl, Maplewood, etc....) Recruiting does happen at public schools also. To attend a private school a parent must make a decision to pay to have their child go to that school. To attend a public school, a parent makes a decision about where to buy a house. Either way the parent pays money to send their child to the school of their choice. People move all of the time to go to another school. How is that different from paying tuition to go to another school? There is a lot of jealousy and "poor me" syndrome all over this board. As a final note, I seriously doubt that the church is sending money to athlete's families to get them to go to school there. I think some of you are really stretching to find a way to make them look bad. All that being said, I hope CPA loses tomorrow, but not because they are evil or have done anything wrong though...
  10. OK... as I read the playoff matrix on the tssaa website... If Lipscomb beats East Nashville tonight, then East would get the runner-up based on the playoff matrix tie-breaker. Pearl- Cohn would have more teams with .500 records or better on their schedule.... What am I missing?
  11. So if Hickman goes to 4 who becomes the 8th tram in quad 3?
  12. Why? Is it supposed to sell out? You can usually buy tickets at the schools the week of the game so you wouldn't have to camp out.
  13. Who is the back-up for Hagan and Vanleer?
  14. Is it true that Hagan won't be playing this week? Did he get hurt?
  15. now wait just a min ..there fellow!!! ...boski is home ...ive just been reading up on a summers worth of post.... nothing fancy .. and yes im still rolling with the big cats ...they are still ready to play ..and win ...so donkey rat nation ..your wait is over ...time to defend the crown..Maplewood has top lineman ..and RB ..and another sleeper at RB ..oh yeah its on ..
  16. Back to the game- I think after a long drive to Pulaski and confusion as to where to sit, Lipscomb fans will have plenty to cheer for as their team wins by 6 touchdowns.
  17. My official prediction is 46-3 Giles County. Giles County will get 23 safeties and Lipscomb will kick a 78 yard field goal with 1.2 seconds remaining to break up the shutout
  18. I agree with this post. Lets try to keep the simple things simple, people! Please explain yourself bobcat
  19. What is with all this informed posting nonsense?! Vandy1, if you don't have something ridiculous to say- don't say anything at all! Lipscomb wins this game 9-1
