Do city schools have more money for programs educational and athletic? Yes. Education is supported by tax base in Tenn. and cities will always have more tax base. (more businesses) That and the fact that they have ONE high school to support financially while most counties have 3 to 4 smaller schools to fund. But I am insulted every time I hear about the "better education" that is being given down the road. Let's see, I graduated from Unaka and was accepted at the Universities of Tennessee and Alabama had my parents driven me to a larger school would I have made it into the Ivy League? No. So, if you want to say your children will have better sports programs with better uniforms and weight rooms, then fine, I agree with you. But it's throwing one pretty big blanket of a statement to say that a county kid "will work at mcdonalds" while the city kid will be,I assume, a doctor or lawyer in the thriving metropolis of Elizabethton.
