Cyclone coaches again muffed end game situation. Cyclones fight back from 14 point Halftime deficit to bring score to 14-13 in the fourth. Then, Kicker misses extra point that would have tied. Cyclones get ball back and move inside South 25,Cyclones get to fourth and five in moderate FG range but for obvious reasons go for first down (kicker has missed more EPs than he has made and has not made a FG all year). They dont get it. Thats OK, they hold South yet again and get ball back with two to go at midfield. First play is Int but on return hard hit causes fumble and Cyclones recover at South 30. Move ball to 10 where its first and goal with 40 some seconds left. Can you say Science Hill, over easy. First play dive to fullback who takes ball to the five. They line up and spike the ball with twenty seconds left and after a South timeout on third down, in the rain on a muddy field, entrust the game to the same kicker who just missed and EP and has not made a FG all year. Of course he misses it, badly. Coaches are scared to win. The kids left it all on the field and deserved better. With over 40 seconds left EHS runs one play. And never goes for the endzone when they had South on their heels, coming back from 14-0 halftime deficit. Coach Pless just doesnt have it folks. A great guy, a fine man, a great assistant coach and OC, but not a great, or good head coach. Let your players try and win the game coach. They deserved a chance at the endzone. You dont have a FG kicker this year like you had last year, or havent you noticed that coach. Cyclones now 0-4 at home this year. Been many decades since that has happened.

South was trying not to lose the whole 2nd half because of some real bad coaching but got lucky and won. South also tried to give Eliz. the game by fumbling a kickoff return and an int. that had sealed the game if the player would have just went down. South also snapped the ball with between 10 and 15 seconds left on the play clock each time in the 4th that was not to smart either. This was a first guess not a second guess but why set it up for a field goal when that has been the worst part of your team all season? Muddy field and wet ball would hurt the kicker anyway. Two shots in the endzone would have been better and I said that before it happened. Also Elizabethton needs to set #8 down on defense because he was tired and banged up the 4th quarter and if they keep him out there all the time then one of these games he will not make it thru. If that happens then they will lose the rest of their games.

It hurt the Cyclones more than anything not finishing their first drive off. Ran alot of clock, which was good, but a score there would have made a different game attitude in the first half. As always, the run defense is a very sore spot and it gives up 'big play' ability. The middle D-backs have to worry to much about run control. The run yardage for South would have been devastating without the rain. The crowd knows it and even the radio announcers verbalize it(3 man front). It doesn't work for Betsy and the kids don't like it either. Hardheaded, but not reasonable to stay with it. As in other games, we played with a 'mission' in the second half. That 'mission' has got to begin in the first half in the next three games or the season is over after three.

On an offensive note to 8 (and he's already heard it).......hard to throw last night, but spread the ball about your recievers better and Kennedy will get more per catch. More quick miss direction is needed and would have been extemely valuable last night. Had a few, but South was bringing everybody on the sweeps leaving the back side wide open. And I'm like some others were thinking, I would have rolled 8 and threw to the endzone (safely) at least once. The roll out passing was working. Also, it's hard to run a stop and go or fly when you have a man on the reciever at the line of scrimmage and one waiting 10 yds deep for him.

Big game by several Cylcones, offensively and defensively, but my hat goes off to big #11. Great game. My 'Player of the Week' :justwrestle:
