The Schools number one sport is not soccer. It is the biggest spring sport but that is it. Most of them cannot play all year round because 8 out of 10 play other sports.

Oneida is not soft. And I know you don't want to hear they don't have the same athletes anymore but they don't. There is not a Derek Lawson, Jake Lowe, or Jonathon King type of football player and there is not a Donald Sexton, Jacob King, or Troy Yaden type of Basketball player any more.

The only kids we get here with any size are not interested in sport. I don't know why but they are just not. We now have new coaches and new systems and I truly feel that the kids will be interested and want to play soon.

I remember several years ago Oneida had a big fellow at least 7' tall. I think he may have gotten a scholarship to one of the ACC schools. He was a true 7 footer, and one of the best shot blockers I've seen in A ball. Anyone remember his name and do they know how his collegiate career went?

I think you may be referring to Rodney (?) West who went to Wake Forest for a short time. Is he the same West who is now back at Oneida helping coach one of the basketball teams maybe?

His name was Rodney Dale West and he played at Wake Forrest with Tim Duncan. I think he was only there 2 years.

Well if he played behind Tim Duncan, it's no wonder he didn't stay there long! :thumb:

Ah yes, now I remember he had one of those double southern names, Rodney Dale. Like Billy Joe Tombob, Billy Bob, etc.....He must have blocked a dozen shots when he came to Coalfield his sr. year. I think he was 7'1" or 7'2" but he probably didn't weigh 180 lbs.
