William Blount Advances

William Blount defeated Maryville for the 3rd time this season, with all 3 games going down to the wire. This one, however, really went down to the wire. With neither team able to lead by more than 5 points the whole game, the teams found themselves tied with under a minute to go. Puleo dribbled around until draining a baseline jumper to give WB a 2 point lead with 6.6 seconds left. After a timeout, Maryville's Niedhammer drives the length of the court and ties the game with a lay-up at the buzzer. In overtime, Maryville jumped out to a quick 5 point advantage, but a turnover or two and a few missed free throws by the Lady Rebels allowed WB to sneak back in and they found themselves down 3 with under a minute to go. Guess who???? AP for 3..was there any doubt? With the game now tied, Maryville came down and missed a baseline jumper and on the rebound there was a tie-up with the alternate possession belonging to WB. WB inbounded to Puleo who, while racing down the left sideline, dribbled the ball over her head. Maryville fans thought carry, WB fans thought good no call. She crossed the time-line and gave it up to Sampley, who layed it in and was fouled with 5 seconds left. She makes the free throw, Maryville misses a desperation 3 and the Lady Govs win 67-64 and advance to play Farragut tonight. Maryville's season painfully comes to an end with a 16-13 record.

William Blount came away with a win vs. Farragut tonight in the semi finals to advance to the Championship game thursday at 8:00. William Blount's Angela Puleo finished with 28 while Audra McBrayer had an exceptional night finishing with 25 to compliment Puleo . They will play the winner of the South Doyle Heritage game which is being played right now. It looks like it will be Heritage vs. William Blount for the ship becuase heritage is up by 12 begininng the fourth quarter. It should be a great game. Congradulations Lady Govs!
