QUOTE(medicineman @ Feb 28 2007 - 02:25 AM) 826392723[/snapback]Hey, does anyone out there know anything about Scott High or Oneida High soccer this year. I heard coach Swain had retired at Oneida, and I think Scott Co. has the same fearless leader as last year /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=". Any insight would help. I believe they scrimmage on march 9 @ Oneida.

Coach Swain was replaced by.....Coach Swain, his son took over so I think they will be just fine. Although they play in a really tough district. I have no clue about scott high.

First of all, I believe the scrimmage date is March the 8th at 5:30. (OHS) While its true that Coach Swain has retired, he has been replaced by Coach Newport. Oneida has lost a wealth of talent over the last several years (Swain, Welch, Branium, McColloch,.....), but they should manage to find just enough to stay competative for the time being. Last year, with only 13 players, nagging injuries killed them. Their numbers haven't gone up significantly (16), but they might be able to weather a storm or two. There are no Grant Swains on this years team, but they have got some speed, good general soccer knowledge, surprisingly good skill, hard workers, and the basketball players (?) would help a ton. I have no idea what Scott brings to the table, but I'm sure they play hard. (that seems to be a staple of their team) Plus Henry will have them coached up!

Kaz,

I know you are probably sure, but I have seen a bootleg copy of the SHS schedule, and they actually have y'all down for March 7, @ 5:30 @ OHS, and then Stone Memorial on March 9. Is that schedule not correct? It would not surprise me that the coach down there put out the wrong schedule /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" , but? How does Slaven look this year? I know he played baseball last year, but I heard he was back this year. I also heard Phillips and Wilson were back in uniform up there. That should help, I would think. What does your freshmen class look like? I know that is a very athletic group, but do any of them play soccer? Would also love to here from anyone with Scott Co. insight. What does that freshmen class look like? They have some athletic kids. Lowe is a competitor at any sport he plays, but I'm not sure what else the cupboard holds.

The scrimmage with Scott Co. is Thursday March 8th at 5:30 at the Jane Hoffman Field. The date was changed two days ago so I'm sure Scott Co.'s coach didn't have time to change it on his schedule. Bootleg? That makes it illegal! At present our line up is real dicy, but we could perceivably start 2 Fresh, 3 sophs, 3 Juniors, and 3 Seniors.....I could give you the names, but then I'd have to shoot ya! T. Slaven has been sick or out most of the week, and it is hard to prepare without him, but we will do our best if he gets here. Until the sun shines again that is taking our field time down considerably, so don't expect to see much of a finished product for a little while. Lot of work to do, and so little time.

Best of luck to the tribe this season. Sounds like it could be an interesting season.

Do none of Scott's soccer players surf coacht? I'm surprised no one has had any news to offer about SHS. I thought this would be a fair year for them. A bit of senior leadership, and no big graduation losses from last year that I'm aware of. I'd love to hear from someone with more perspective on them though. they are always well conditioned and well coached.

Coach Newport is a fine coach........T. Slaven decided he did not want to play this year so they got abbott and benji jacobs to play......They r training abbott for goal and benji will probably be playin backfield (if they stick with it). Its the first time playin soccer for both of them and they are looking pretty decent so far....Phillips and Wilson both are playing and i believe oneida has 4 freshman....One of them being Dylan West and he could possibly be starting.

    • One final thought. Coach Keith claims he was not aware of the player's failing grades. I won't comment on that, just to say this, IF he did not, whose job was it to see that this kid did not play ball at CHS? That person should be looking for a job and they might be, I don't know.
    • They have fired the principal, 2 teachers, at least 1 counsellor and 1 coach so far. I don't see it from my view in Oak Ridge as a coach thing, he  was just implicated in asking 1 teacher to  fix 1 kid's grades.   In our local media(Clinton and Oak Ridge)the principal is who is the originator and pusher of the fraud. The others are peripheral. The coach isn't even the big story, just here on a sports site.  The media view is the principal did it to cause CHS to be seen as excellent by the state. He committed fraud to do that so he might spend a little time in jail IF that is valid.
    • And from coach himself, he wasn’t told he was let go because of the ineligible player.    that’s just what the schools needed to happen to fit their bull
    • Wish it was made clear before a coach gets let go or not retained instead of being sold as the reason he was in trouble. I was told the kids who got grades changed, 97% or better were non athletes but the coach is taking all the heat so the schools can pretend it wasn’t their job to know. heck, what do you think could happen when you hire husband and wife as head principal and head guidance….   that’s not being said though…
    • Hmmmmm……doe dee doe doe.  Last time I came up there to watch my pirates one of those guys in that pickup trucks flattened the tires on the lawnmower.  This is payback.  You can bet the lawnmower on that.
