Automatic Bid for Regional

I've seen posts indicating that some teams received an automatic spot in their Region Tournament because they finished first in their district during the regular season.

Do they still play in the District Tournament?

If they do and win it, the then the team that finishes second advances as well, correct? If they don't win it, then they advance as well as the District Tournament winner, correct?

Only the teams that finish first and second in the district tournament will advance to the regional. The only thing that finishing first in the district during the season does is give you the number one seed for the tournament.

Some districts have it set up if they win the regular season they will automatically reach the region. Those teams still play in the district tournament. If they win it, they will be the No. 1 seed and get a home game. If they don't they will be the No. 2 seed and travel on that region semifinal.

 

If the regular season champ doesn't make the final, then only the winner of the tournament will reach the region.

 

But not all districts have that rule.
