Quarter Final Home Field Question

With the TSSAA changes about which regions hosts quarter final and semi final games, I have a question. The bracket that Blount is in is set up for the Region 1 winner (Bearden) to be at home for the quarter final game if they win their first two games. The bracket indicates that the winner of the week two game that could possibly be Bearden vs Blount would be home for week 3. If Blount wins but their quarter final opponent is Farragut, would Blount still host? Or would Farragut since they finished ahead of Blount in their region? I know it works that way in week two, but wasn't sure about week three.

The home-field team for the quarter-finals and semi-finals are set, and the team from the Region 1 side of the bracket, William Blount's side, will host the third round game. With the new playoff format, the only rounds that seeds count are rounds one and two.

IV. THE PLAY-OFF GAMES (Division I: Class 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A) A. The first-round games in all classifications shall be played on the 11th Friday of the football season. The second round shall be played on the 12th Friday, the quarterfinals on the 13th Friday, the semifinals on the 14th Friday, and the championship games shall be played on either the following 15th Friday or Saturday. B. In all Class 1A, 3A, 4A and 5A play-off games, in the first and second rounds the higher seeded team shall be the host school. Although it sounds like in part B that WB would host semi ... you then read on to part C. and that would seem to indicate that if Blount's opponent was Farragut, the game would take place at Farragut. At least, that's how it reads to me.

The changes from '05 that are only this year altering the traditional routine have a lot of folks understandably confused. But if you read the linked page you can see that the purpose is to reward the Region 1 Champion this year, as opposed to purposefully screwing the Region 2 Champion were they to meet a lower seeded team in the quarterfinal round. This change, therefore, only affects a meeting of no. 1 seeds; for all other scenarios, it's "same as it ever was." For a William Blount (#2) / Farragut (#1) matchup you then revert to the TSSAA 2007-2008 Football Handbook ( http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/football.pdf ) and Section IV C which applies to 5A and is still in effect.

 

On the TSSAA bracket, they're assuming the Region 1, 3, 5 & 7 Champions will advance to the 3rd round.

Very good answer. The problem is with the bracket itself. They should not even put H's on it. The only way they can do home-field is to expect the #1's to win. The only way WB will host more than one game (assuming they win) would be if Bearden loses in round 1 and OAK RIDGE wins in round 2. Both of those are highly unlikely. WB should expect to be road warriors throughout the playoffs.

ETCoach, you sure about this? We will play the winner of Bearden/Ooltewah. If Bearden was to lose, then Ooltewah would travel to WB since we owned beat them during the regular season.

 

If Oak Ridge or DB beats Farragut in Round 2, then we would be either the highest seeded team (against OR) or the same seed number (DB), wherein the tie goes to Region 2 this year in Rd. 3.

 

It is possible that we get a total of 3 home games, but agreed, lots of things would have to happen.

All I know is that the Owls will not have another home game this year. Here's to having 5 straight road victories (raising a glass of my favorite malt beverage). We got the first one last week and hoping to get the second tomorrow night.
