I would say that the are legit most every year...

Thanks, Big G. Looking forward to seeing your team in Knoxville in a couple of weeks. I'm sure a good match is in store. Always good competition in that part of the state.

The highlight of the game was not the score or the players, although it was a good match. It was the idea of having a benefit for LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis. Specifically, all the proceeds went to the John Talley Pediatric Neurological Research Fund at LeBonheur. For those that don't know, if you have ever played a match at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis, you have John Talley to thank. He was the driver and the visionary behind that facility. Unfortunately, John died of brain cancer a few years ago.

What a great way to start the season. There was an opening match at 5:00 between Collierville and White Station. There were probably 1,200 people there for the nightcap. Pep band, cheerleaders, the whole works. The complex donated the stadium and the teams donated the gate. Hats off to Coach Wolff at Houston and Coach Lima at CBHS and particularly the players from both teams. Long after the score is forgotten, the kids at LeBonheur will still be benefiting.

I give all these details to encourage coaches in other parts of the state to consider something similar for your communities. There were no losers last night.

    • Wanted to see if all of you would lift up Kyle James family in prayer. Kyle was one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of Soddy Daisy and as some of you know he lost his house a few weeks ago and now his family and friends mourns his passing. Not sure if any of you were around in early 2000’s when Kyle was wrestling at Soddy, but he was a 3 time state champ and a Fargo AA along with going to Colorado to train to make the Olympic team. That goal was never reached due to medical issues, but he was an amazing wrestler and his family is as good as gold. If you were around at that time and have any pictures of Kyle, please go onto Alexy Winesburgh FB page and post. Thanks, Doug Benton
    • My opinion the 8 teams will be-  Greenback, Wartburg, Gordonsville, Jo Byrns, Eagleville, Bruceton, Dresden, and South Fulton. Gordonsviile is probably the favorite but I wont say it will be an easy road. With the right draw any of the 8 could win it.
    • I understand Gibson Co. will be announced tomorrow with a familiar name. Not sure about So. Gibson.
    • A huge addition to the staff today! Former Hardin Valley legend and Richmond College running back Aaron Dykes was announced as the running backs coach. Rushed for over 3,000 yards at HVA, with 35 total touchdowns. I loved watching in Hardin Valley. I can’t believe he’s at Bearden now. I know he was trying to get a HVA job, I don’t know what happened there and how he ended up at Bearden, but I'm glad he’s here and believe he will be teaching art class as well! What a good get for the staff!!
    • Thoughts? Gordonsville won it last year with a sophomore pitcher and returned almost everybody. Can anyone beat them?
