Contracts for visiting teams

We had a match scheduled against PJPII (it had been scheduled since October) and it was cancelled less than 12 hours before kick-off. We were upset. Not the first time something like this has happened.

In the past, I have thought match contracts were going a bit too far and chose to never use them. Curious how many coaches might be using them now (contract sent to visiting coach that is signed and returned...a fee is charged the school if the match is cancelled).

Thanks all.

We have used them in the past. And we have done them for the same reasons--having teams cancel at the last minute.

Of course, I feel that the A.D.'s should be the ones that do them. We as coaches have enough to do during the season.

Also, when you do them--it does get the AD's involved, because it is dealing with $$$. I doubt that JP would have canceled on you if they were facing a $250--$500 fee.

Best of luck.

Riverdale - you guys need a clue. You cancel a game after the Baylor team drives 1 1/2 hours to play at your school. All of the Baylor parents make the drive up, as well, only to be told the game has been rained out. If you were afraid of ruining your football field, then why wasn't the game canceled earlier in the week? What a waste.

Actually to get your facts straight Baylor drove down here and the field was really bad. Riverdale coach said it is up to Baylor if they want to play or not. Baylor decided no and we'll try and play later on in the season. It was up to Baylor, not Riverdale. I would actually try and find out what really happened before you try and post something on here

    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
    • Maryville will recapture the loses from last year against West, Bradley and Farragut. The Bearden game will be the tough one but I look for the wheels to come off that ride somewhere down the road because of all the crap that goes on there. I know to many parents there and some of the things I've been told and some of the post a few of them have made on facebook. They all can't be liars.
    • If Heritage moves down and Alcoa moves up the best thing for Heritage is to do what William Blount did when theystopped playing Maryville or meet certain defeat. Honestly can't see Alcoa not moving up the way the county is growing. Might be in the Mountaineers best interest to stay in 5A because none of those teams on their schedule are anything close to Alcoa.
    • I say over as well. Barney, regarding the move to 4A, will the cross-town blowhards move up as well??
