Football in South Pittsburg

Football will be good this year. You guys are leaving out a very talented back.....AJ Jones was one of the top running backs in the state last year....secondly, South Pittsburg is not high on alot of polls...the reason, is they can't get any 1A schools besides the ones in their region to play them....South Pittsburg ends up playing 2A, 3A and 4A schools...Look out for the Pirates....

Here is a breakdown of South Pittsburg schedule.

Week 1- Marion County is a solid 2A school with a good football tradtion. Missed 2A Playoffs last season, but should return this year.

Week 2-Copper Basin made playoffs last season, but lost to Gordonsville in Round 1. Lost key lineman, but return Stone at quarterback and Loudermilk at wingback. Will finish 4th in 3-1A.

Week 3- Grundy County won the 3-3A crown last season, but lost in Round 1 and numbers are thin on the mountain. Should still contend for title in a weak 3A region.

Week 4- Lookout Valley will be no challenge for the Pirates. Failed to make the playoffs, and probably won't this year.

Week 5- Sequatchie County is much improved from last season, in which they didn't make the playoffs. Looked good in jamboree .vs. Marion. QB Jordan Cain returns from an ACL injury.

Week 6- Forrest lost to South Pitt by 1 last season in double OT. Forrest missed the playoffs.

Week 7- Mcminn Central went 0-10 last year, but numbers are up and so are the Chargers' hopes.

Week 8- Boyd-Buchanan went 6-6 last season, but played a very tough schedule. Lost in Round 2 to Gordonsville. Quarterback Will Healy is one of the state's best 1A QB's. FB/LB William Nelson is a load to bring down.

Week 9- Bledsoe County didn't make the playoffs last season and won't this year. Joe Sanchez is the team's best player by far.

Week 10- Whitwell will host the Pirates in what should be one of the Region 3-1A Games of the Year. The Tigers will be finely tuned by then. No doubt both teams will have to bring their A-game to win this one.
