Maybe because it seemed to be rained out or postponed nearly every year. I agree E Ridge has dropped off even in the past few years but the teams in their district and region have improved too. I think you'd have to look into issues for their whole athletic program and school in general to solve some things, not just at the softball team.

Good Showing this weekend by Sequatchie Co., Chattanooga Christian, and Knoxville Halls... There seems to be a lot of good young talent in the Chattanooga area, but like I said "Young". Most of the teams that I witnessed had a ton of youth, including Baylor, Red Bank, Marion, Grace Academy, Bledsoe, and others...Good Luck to all the teams involved...

I was told Bledsoe tied Grace and lost to Baylor, was told Marion lost to Red Bank and Halls. It looked as if Cleveland beat East Ridge from the way that game was going. I don't know scores on those or nearly any other game as the boards weren't working. They were just practice games but it wouldn't have hurt to plug them up especially when there is an admission fee, a parent or player's sibling is always willing to run one.

Sequatchie had more positives than negatives but still has a lot of work to get to where they want to be. Three triples and 6 other extra base hits in 15 total innings, winning over Baylor after trailing 3-0, two pitchers (one FR) getting a win apiece and another getting two wins, each player including subs getting at least four at-bats, 3 double plays, a couple of relays to get outs at the plate, great success in throwing out runners, were all good to see. Other parts needed some work but the team looked sharper as the day went on. You often don't know if you're seeing the best a team can put out there in scrimmages but I thought 3 of 4 looked like they were using their main pitcher or a quality #2 from what I saw in parts of their other games. Nobody should get too excited over wins or losses at a playday unless the losses were results of really bad play, but you do go out with a goal of winning.

Marion lost the first game to Red Bank 5-4...Pitched a sophomore and left 5 runners on base in 3 innings... Second game we lost to Grace 1-0 and again left several runners on base and pitched a freshman. She did an outstanding job. Third game we tied Cumberland Co. 0-0, and pitch a different sophomore in this game. She too did an outstanding job. And the last game we lost to Knox. Halls 5-0 (I think), but it was a decent performance overall. We didnt give up the big hits like Halls had got in their other games but did make a few errors and gave up several bloop hits. Overall the weekend was good for our girls. We have 13 underclassmen so this was a good experience to get them used to the high school level of play. We also have several walking wounded and hopefully we can get 3 out of the 4 back within the next month. We play South Pittsburg Monday Night and then Howard on Tuesday which should be good for us to get our feet under us for Friday ---- GPS! Rain, Rain, Rain....lol!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
