Bears’ Vince Aguilar Scheduled to Wrestle

Defending Region 3 and state traditional champion Bradley Central has seven No. 1 seeds for this weekend’s Region 3 traditional tournament at Alcoa High School, while cross-town rival Cleveland has five top seeds and Greenback has two.

While Bradley Central coach Steve Logsdon is pleased with eight top seeds, he is thrilled and relieved that senior Vince Aguilar – though a two seed at 145 – will be able to wrestle this weekend after suffering an elbow injury in Saturday’s state duals final won by the Bears.

“The doctors confirmed that Vince suffered a dislocated elbow and not a broken one which means he can wrestle in the region which is great for him and the team,’’ said Logsdon.

Region 3 Schedule: Friday 6:30 p.m. at Alcoa High School – Session I consists of round of 16 matches, followed by quarterfinal and semifinal matches. No consolation matches will be wrestled on Friday.

Saturday: Session II has consolation matches beginning at 11 a.m., while Session III starts at 3 p.m. for the consolation and championship finals on two mats.

Ticket Prices: $7 per session for adults and $3 for students 10 and under. On Saturday, a two-session pass is $12 or $7/$3 per session.

“This is a pretty big deal for us to host the region tournament and we look forward to having the wrestlers, coaches and fans from the other region schools on our campus this weekend,’’ said Alcoa wrestling coach Brian Gossett.

Defending Champion: Bradley Central has won 17 straight region titles … the last time the Bears did not

win the region was when they finished second to Soddy Daisy in 1992.
