DII\A East - Middle Next Year?

Team camps are starting so I thought I would get on here and drop a little knowledge and alot of opinion!

East/Middle

Davidson - New coach should be an improvement to a team that has some talent but never really used it. Look for them to be mid level team in this region.

DCA - Loss of their tall lanky post will hurt alot for the reigning region champs. Have some talent coming back but are having some issues with two players on whether or not they will play. Both played key roles for their team last year so should be interesting to see. Could be a top 3 to 4 team or drop down to the mid level teams.

Ezell - New coach that might actually be a downgrade from what they had. Lost 50% percent of a 6 man team with 3 players graduating. Bring back their point who is a fantastic FT shooter and playmaker. A streaky shooter and their post. This is a team that if they can get anything from their "other players" might make some noise and crack top 3 or 4. Look for them to be in the 4,5,6 range.

FRA - Lost their point but have a great team coming back and are getting some really good kids in. They have two of the best bigs in the region and should look to be the team to beat.

Kings - Do everyone a favor and drop out of TSSAA. Its almost embarassing how bad they are.

Knoxville Webb - Return just about everyone from last year. Have a decent player in Sampson who can post and step out. Nabors boys can cause trouble if either gets hot. Look for them to get back into the top 4.

MJCA - Had their best team ever last year and lost pretty much all but 1 or 2 players. Wankel is back but without the supporting cast look for them to take a huge drop back to reality and settle in around the 7,8,9

range.

Riverside - Not a whole lot there. get a new coach PLEASE!!!!

S.A.S - Along the same lines as Kings Academy.

USN - Lose 3 seniors. Have a nice core to work with. Should be one of the top 4 teams.

Webb - Lost Miles Davis. They are done!

Zion - Just one of those teams that play hard and hustle but will be in the 8,9,10 range.

range.

I guess we (Ezell) might be holding out on showing the whole team at the Summer Team Camps this year. Ezell did lose to DA at Lipscomb minus top two scorers due to ACT prep and Baseball but only by 6 so I think we can take that. Look for the same next week at Belmont. So I guess it is more a time to see who will get the two starting positions along last year's players who have played significant roles.

I thought DA looks to be a team with size and quickness and could battle for a top 4 spot. At this point Ezell will not be able to match the team it put on the floor last year. It is just asking too much at this point to put a solid 5 people on the court...which we have only been able to do for 2 games out of 10 played this summer.

I do like the assessment of IknowDII it looks pretty accurate. I would expect FRA to have a good chance to go the distance this year based on the quality of the hoopsters on its team. I know of at least 3 of its players who play on nationally recognized travel teams...I think the Championship is theirs to lose.

This is my opinion only.

Watched some of the camp games Ezell has played in. Glad to see their new coach was so into the game he was texting from his chair. Can't wait to see the EH v BA game this year. REDEMPTION.

Uh oh Wareagle3 your chance for redemption may have to wait. Do we still have you guys on our schedule? We may be cherishing that victory for a long time. There's no need to be ashamed of the lost last year...we caught you guys on a good day.

Better days are ahead for your Eagles.

The D-IIA Middle/East will be decided between four teams. There are some quality teams in this region. Here is the breakdown as follows.

DCA - Very solid team with a veteran coach. This team has experienced players returning. Coach Ramsey has his guys playing very excellent man to man defense on the perimeter with ball pressure. This team is very disciplined, especially on pick n rolls. This team gets the job done by committee with a couple of good guards on the perimeter. On schedule - a tough game at USN. On plus side this team has both FRA and Ezell at home.

Ezell- Free Throws, Free Throws, Free Throws - This is a great compliment to this team. Consistently last season, this team hit free throws down the stretch to close games. Free throws are a lost art, but that is a great advantage in close games. This team plays great team ball and scores by committee. New young coach (formerly an assistant)at the helm and it will be interesting to see how the players respond. Also, how will Coach Farmer perform in close games. On schedule this is a major negative. All three games against the top tier teams are away - Tough games at USN, DCA, and FRA.

FRABigs, Bigs, Bigs. This team definitely has the best bigs in the east/middle. They are also continuing to improve. This team can drop the ball in the post and rely on their bigs to score. This team will not only be able to score in the post, but rebound the ball as well. Last season, this team crashed the offensive glass allowing for numerous 2nd chance points. Rebounding was a key factor of the team's success last season and will continue to be this season. Obviously, this team has solid defense on the interior, but also on the perimeter as well. Additionally, this team keeps the tempo at an extremely slow pace, which is a style that most teams do not like to play. This is a distinct advantage for FRA. Other teams have a significant adjustment to make when FRA plays this style. Schedule 2/3 at home Host USN and Ezell. Only away is at DCA.

USN

This team did loose a fiesty/pesty guard and two other seniors, but this team has the talent to take it all the way as this team has the best player in the region returning in Nilan "Silk" Hodge. Two years ago this team was the state-runner up and was put out last season by ECS - the eventual state champs. If this team can play hard on the defensive end and the bigs are able to rebound the basketball consistently, they will be tough to beat. Also, Coach Sonn (played at DCA & Belmont) is a coach who knows the game of basketball. Coach Sonn understands that this is his best year to win that coveted state Title, which is why Sonn put an emphasis on scheduling better competition in out of region. This team will continue to shoot the 3 ball well from the field with the addition of the young man (transfer from DCA; and unable to play last season) by TSSAA rules. Another plus is the team's out of region schedule (Hillsboro - game at Belmont's Curb Event Center, Lipscomb, BA, Overton Christmas Tourney, Columbia Classic Tourney) Hence, this team will improve and be battled tested by the start of region play. USN is outstanding at the guard position. Furthermore, in Hodge, this team has a dynamic player that can carry a team, especially in high school basketball. Additionally, as Hodge faces box in 1's, double teams, etc. this will open up plenty of opportunities for other players.

This link has been sent to me by several individuals on Hodge as he is attacking from all over the court. Take a look below:

All Nets,

You've posted 3 times on this board.....all 3 times you have hyped Nilan Hodge as the 2nd coming. Nobody cares if this kid has a youtube highlight video that you made "claiming someone sent it to you" What makes your basketball insight less than credible is for you to start a topic claiming he is the best point guard in Nashville. Look, Nilan is a solid player in Division II, but lets not make him out to be more than he is. I watched him play numerous times, and quite frankly he's not that impressive. For instance, they played at DCA and were completely manhandled. Not saying that DCA is great, but if he is the best PG in Nashville, DCA certainly would not have shut him down.

1.) He doesn't make anyone on the floor better

2.) He constantly is working on his And-1 dribbling skills

3. ) He's not the best player on his team THIS YEAR, much less the region

4. ) Those BLUE SHOES are terrible!

5.) Nobody calls him Silk except you

Gerald Robinson with a better jumper? You can't be serious........

Please do yourself, and your brother "Silk" a favor and quit posting.......it's embarrassing.

This is one of the truest statements ever. Brother Hodge, do us all a favor and quit posting reject "highlight" reels. Your boy is good but no where near as good ad you think. I hope he doesn't see himself in this light. It will be a huge letdown when the second coming of gerald robinson is suiting up at aD2 or D3 school.
