Was Franklin Smart to get rid of Craig Clayton?

First id like to congratulate Coach Clayton, and Coach Murphy for a successful first year at Hillsboro. Making it to the second round was big time for them and proved i think that they shouldn't have been run out of Franklin. No disrespect to Coach Webb. I know he is a great coach and man. Wish he would have never left back in 2009 nine the two were a deadly combo for a coaching staff. I think Franklin would have fared a little better this year with Clayton at the helms though. The kids were familiar with his system and coaching style already and would only mature in it more if he would have been there. I know later down the road the Rebels will make play off runs will Coach Webb and have great seasons. He is too good of a coach for that not to happen, i just wonder if the time was really right for Clayton to get run out of town...

I agree it was not fair for Clayton to be run off. I don't agree that Franklin would have been much better if he'd stayed. When you play as many sophomores as they are, you get the kind of team you saw this year. I'd expect Franklin to be very good in the next two years, as the players mature under a good football coach.

    • Hoping my rebels can get over the hump this year.
    • “Marion added 2 big time transfers but ER is still better as a whole. ER has a better QB/RB/TE than Marion I’ll give Marion the edge at Receiver for now. ER O line will be improved from last year though. Marion is the second best team in all of 2A imo behind ER and ahead of Huntingdon.” As I said in the ER thread. Huntingdon physicality could make problems for Marion if they do meet in the state championship. ER does still have more speed than Marion as of now. I’m gonna go watch the highlights of the two transfers and get back to yall and see if my perspective has changed.

    • Marion jumps Huntingdon in my preseason rankings but not ER. Upgraded at the 2 positions that ER is by far still better at.
    • Anyone hear how the SD northview scrimmage went?
