  1. I just found out today that this sport exited at the high school level. I think it is great, and will provide another athletic opportunity for girls.
  2. If Maplewood can make second place then that means either the coaching staff did a great job , or that the region is down this season. The Panthers were very senior heavy last season. The may have only five starters total returning this year.
  3. "If you aint cheatin' you aint tryin."
  4. The best way to eliminate weak 4th place teams is to have fewer classifications. Maybe in another twenty years Tennessee will have enough schools to properly round out six classifications.
  5. And perhaps congratulations can just be given to the winning team. Or nothing said at all. Because it will change nothing. Just as replying to people of your mindset is a waste of time.
  6. Perhaps one day a perfect game will be played by the players, coached by the coaches, and officiated by the officials.
  7. You people are so sure of your teams. But nothing is certain come tournament time. Macon County was not a certain today. Riverdale was not a certain today. And it looks as if Loretto might be some competition in your "super"region.
  8. If East Nashville had an enrollment of over 1100 students they would likely be 5A in football instead of 3A.
  9. i think your thinking is spot on. Perhaps District 9 and District 12 can swap their district designation. That way current District 9 teams would stand a good chance winning a region game, and maybe even getting to the Sectional. But they would still have to get past District 10 ,even in District 12, to make it to the state quartefinals. Of course, they could always go to District 8 and avoid District 10 teams altogether. But now they would have to get past the Chattanooga teams to get to the quarterfinals.
  10. Why did you start two threads on the same game?
  11. Maybe you mean District 10 of Region 5. Teams from District 9 rarely win games in the regional tournament.
  12. Go back and read my post. I never said that the state tournament has the top 8 teams. In fact, I said they probably aren't eight best. I then went on to suggest that they are likely no worse than top ten. Now you are backing out on your assertion that the 6th best team in your district could beat one of the lesser teams in the state. You now want to expand the population and say they are six teams in your region that could do it. I don't know your region. But I'm still not so sure about that. But I will give a slim possibility that a particular region could do it in a given year. Finally, who beat whom in the past is irrelevant. It is tournament time. What is important is who you beat now; just like the NCAA tournament. I'm sure there were plenty of teams last season, from strong conferences, who didn't get in the tournament but would have otherwise beaten Loyola-Chicago. But the Ramblers were the ones who made it to the Final Four.
  13. I see you picked the "big city" school over the "county" schools.
  14. So you are saying that the sixth place team from your district is at least better than the "worst" team in the state quarterfinals? I personally feel that the way the post season weeds out the pretenders in basketball is better than it does in football. A team first has to get through a district tournament, then a regional tournament; then a sectional match up before it make to the state quarterfinals. By the time that time I feel confident that while they may not be the eight best teams in the state, no team is worst that the tenth best. But your district is so good the sixth best team is still better than the eighth "best team at the quarter finals. Keeping in mind that any team making it to the quarterfinal is one of the better teams from two regions/ four districts.
  15. If only region champions were taken there would be no need to "host" The region champions will be in the state quarterfinals already as there are only 8 regions in basketball.
  16. If Maplewood could not hit a jumper, make a FT, or a layup how did they manage to score? Those are about the only three ways one can score in basketball. Moreover, how did they outscore their opponent. Maybe Maplewood was only able to make set shots, just not jump shots
  17. The regular season is over. The girls and boys teams are on different trajectories. I see nothing wrong with charging for both games.
  18. I was off by a week on the NCAA. And yes. I was counting conference tournaments..
  19. I was at the Cheatham Couny / Maplewood games. Although I had never seen the Panther team play before that night I got the sense that they had a bad shooting night and gave up before the end of the third quarter. They missed plenty of uncontested lay-ups and short jumpers. I think the Cubs are a better disciplined team and would beat them in a rematch. But the outcome will be closer.
  20. Taking only the District Tourney winners and runner-ups to region will only reduce the number of games, not the number of weeks, because each round is basically played on a weekly basis. Football also takes five weeks. The NCAA takes six weeks. If you want to easily reduce it by a week then you can stop playing the sub state and only take the Region champion to the next level. Now if you are really concerned about week reduction you can play two rounds per week. In order for a team to win a Sate championship they will more likely have to play three games in three days anyway.
  21. Cutting away at the poor grammar, spelling, and syntax, Whoop is playing the field against any one team. Outside of picking against Alcoa or Marville to win a state championship in football, it's a pretty safe bet at the beginning of each season. He's not really going out on a limb.
  22. Few comebacks are better than the sarcastic "How'd that work out for ya?". It's simple and effective.
  23. Are you the same person who kept predicting a Nolensville / Marshall County Quarterfinal game from the very beginning of the post-season?
  24. This Stratford offense reminds of the one Maplewood had when they play Covington in the semi-finals back in 2011: One running back big and fast, another running back not as big but faster.
  25. In my opinion, what ultimately separates Alcoa, Greeneviile, and Maryville is not just their execution but their quality of depth. The very top 6A schools can match Maryville's quality of depth. But very few 3A and 4A schools can match the roster numbers of Alcoa and Greeneville, and none can match their quality of depth.
