bbb Posted April 5, 2014 Report Share Posted April 5, 2014 (edited) A 4-Peat in Girls A, a repeat winner in the Boys A, a clean sweep in Boys B and a new champ in Girls B highlighted this weekend’s 58th annual Chattanooga Rotary Tennis Tournament. The Baylor Girls became the first team to win four straight in A Division in a decade, while five-time Kentucky state champion St. Xavier won for the second straight year in Boys A. Huntsville’s depth proved too much for the other seven teams in Boys B as the Alabama school did not lose a match for a perfect score of 27. In an all-Knoxville battle for the top spot in Girls B, Christian Academy of Knox. (19) claimed the championship ahead of defending champion Knox Catholic (14.5) and Knox Webb (14). Girls A – Led by four singles and three doubles champions, Baylor Girls claimed their fourth straight Rotary team title with 20 points, while Mountain Brook (Ala.) was second (1 pts.), McCracken (11.5) was third and GPS (7) was fourth in the eight-team field. Marist (Atlanta) is the last team to win four straight (2000-2003) in the A Division. Baylor singles champions were Harper Caswell (No.2), Maggie Crumbliss (No.3), McCall Morgan (No.4) and Drew Hawkins (No.5). Doubles winners were (No.1) Samantha Caswell-McCall Morgan (No.2) Harper Caswell-Ashton Jenne, No.3 (Maggie Crumbliss-Drew Hawkins). McCracken had singles winners in No.1 Michelle McKamey and No.6 McKenna Garneau. Girls B – Christian Academy of Knoxville won five singles and two doubles titles to claim the Rotary Girls B team and make a statement for a possible run at the TSSAA D-I A/AA state championship in late May. Singles winners were Allison Ivey (No.3) and Elisa DeNicola (No.4), while Holly Chastain-Leighton Porter (No.1), while Ivey and DeNicola teamed to win at No.2 doubles. Knox Catholic also had multiple winners in Sarah Myers (No.5) and Katie Covino (No.6) and (2) Julia Newman-Emily Thompson (No.3). Hannah Henry of Chattanooga Christian claimed the No.1 singles title. Boys A – St. Xavier won for the second straight year with four singles champs; (1) Brandon Lancaster (No.1), (2) Drew Singerman (No.2) (1) Cameron Cox (No.5) and (1) Nick Quinones (No.6). Lancaster-Singerman teamed to take No.1 doubles. Runner-up McCallie had multiple winners with Luke Orthner taking No.4 singles and No.2 doubles with Carter Eaves as well as Taylor Burgan-Conner O’Brien winning at No.3. Boys B – Huntsville lapped the field with a perfect score of 27, while Randolph was second (11.5), followed by Science Hill (10.5) in third and Univ. School of Jackson (9) in fourth. Lucas Damian took No.1 singles and No.1 doubles (w/Jacob Bourland) for Huntsville. In Boys A, No.2 doubles – (3) Carter Eaves-Luke Orthner (McCallie) beat (1) Coleman Cox-Nick Quinones (St. Xavier) in the semis and (2) Chad Woodham-Ethan Palisoc in the finals.
