TWF State Tournament information

Here's the information for the TWF State Freestyle/Greco tournament.  Let me know if you have questions.

 

DATE:  SATURDAY, MAY 3, 2014

LOCATION: FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL

            810 HILLSBORO RD.

FRANKLIN, TN 37064

WEIGH-INS:  SATELLITE WEIGH-INS WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, MAY 2.  THE SITES AND TIMES WILL BE POSTED ON www.tnusawrestling.com.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:  

WRESTLING STARTS:  9:00 A.M. CENTRAL TIME

*GRECO-ROMAN COMPETITION FIRST, FREESTYLE WILL FOLLOW

REGISTRATION:  ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE DONE THROUGH TRACKWRESTLING BY 11:00 P.M. CENTRAL TIME ON THURSDAY, MAY 9, 2013.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!  YOU MUST GO TOttp://unapproved website/registration/BasicPreReg1.jsp?tournamentGroupId=140733009

 PAY AND REGISTER.  MAKE SURE TO REGISTER FOR BOTH TOURNAMENTS IF YOU ARE WRESTLING BOTH STYLES.  YOU WILL NOT BE REGISTERED FOR THE TOURNAMENT UNTIL YOU COMPLETE THE REGISTRATION PROCESS AND PAY.  ABSOLUTELY NO WALK-INS AND NO PAYING AT THE DOOR!  

ENTRY FEE:  $25 WHETHER YOU WRESTLE ONE STYLE OR BOTH

AWARDS: MEDALS FOR THE TOP 3 PLACES

INSURANCE:  EACH PARTICIPANT MUST HAVE A VALID USA WRESTLING CARD.

UNIFORM:  RED AND BLUE SINGLET IS REQUIRED. 

DIVISIONS AND WEIGHT CLASSES:

I think the registration deadline is probably May 2nd and this flyer is just off a week but wanted to make sure that was the date that was incorrect and not the date of the tournament.

Registration will actually close at 11:59 PM on 5/1/2014.  That is Thursday night before the event so that we can work on brackets on Friday.

 

There is a misprint in the flier.

 

If you win TWD in one weight class but want to wrestle a different one for Fargo. Is that allowed or do you have to go the weight class you wrestled in twf?

 

Probably best if you understand how the qualification process works for Fargo.

 

Each state is allowed to take 50 wrestlers to Fargo per style and division (from what I remember).  Wrestlers that earn a qualification by placing top 3 in any one of the USAW Regional tournaments for that age & style do not count against their state's total (the 50 referenced above).  This is why you will often see kids from one regional travel to another, to ensure they get to attend Fargo if they didn't qualify or don't think they would through the state.

 

Each state can ultimately determine how they wish to fill those 50 slots for Fargo and for many of the bigger states it will be by their placement at the state tournament and thus they make kids wrestle the same weights at Fargo to keep the qualification process fair.

 

TN never comes close to the limit of wrestlers that we are allowed to take to Fargo.  That would be a nice problem to have.  For this reason the TWF typically does not care if you change weights between state and Fargo, wrestle the state tournament, etc.  For the most part if you want to go to Fargo the state is going to approve it regardless of other conditions.

 

Perhaps one day that state will improve its participation numbers to the point where we have to be concerned with a more strict set of qualification guidelines but we just aren't there right now.
