Eaglette Softball player chooses Belmont

http://www.t-g.com/story/2142378.html

It didn't take long for Shelbyville Central senior softball standout Baylee Cook to decide where she would like to go to college and continue her softball career.

Cook recently signed a letter of intent to continue her education and play softball at Belmont University. She made a commitment her sophomore year.

Close to home

"I'm so thankful to be given the opportunity that a lot of others never get and I'm thankful for my parents and everyone else that has helped and supported me," Cook said. "Belmont is the perfect fit for me and they made me an offer I could't turn down plus they will allow me to play softball and major in nursing. Also it's close enough that my parents can come see me play.

The two-time District 8AAA Most Valuable Player is a three-year starter for the Golden Eaglettes and has played travel ball at the highest level, winning an ASA/USA "A" national championship as a 14 year old then a ASA/USA Gold "A" national championship this past summer as a 16-year-old as a member of the Fury 97 team.

During her junior season, the center fielder posted a .543 batting average with a .641 on base percentage. She had 23 extra base hits, including eight home runs as a lead-off hitter for the Eaglettes.
