DCA has CPA and FRA

CPA has too much speed at forward. Cats hope to keep it close with only having one scrimmage and playing the two best forwards they will play all season. The TSC players for CPA know the danger a few Cats players present so with a ton of luck maybe the Cats make it respectable? Even last years CPA coach will be attending to watch her club players duke it out. Odds are this could get ugly with the new CPA transfer and Wegner having their way.

FRA lost some good players but Hunt, a DePaul commitment, is very good. Can the talented young Cat midfielders handle the big challenge. FRA beat them soundly last year but have the 8th graders improved enough to be in the game now as freshmen? It's a very tough challenge for the Cats.

Let's hear from you guys.

Based on the scores CPA posted in preseason and the DCA outing against WH-Heritage last Thursday, I do not think this one will be close. I have heard Heritage's offense is pretty decent, but CPA's offense has to be better than Heritage's. I have noticed you keep talking about 'a young DCA squad', so maybe they compete more at the end of the season than at the beginning. I have heard good things about two of the center mids for DCA. Look for this one to get a little bit ugly though. Prediction: CPA wins 7-1. Best of luck to you all!

I agree it can get ugly but the Heritage scrimmage was just that for DCA so don't let that fool you. There were formations tried and kids that played that won't at CPA. Plus, DCA retuned it's whole team from last year and CPA added some freshman and a great transfer. If you make the error of looking at comparative scores/games from last season DCA would be the favorite (see Cane Ridge).

CPA is much better and deeper no doubt. DCA could get boat raced because they're still young. However, if CPA doesn't contain the mids DCA will get their scoring chances. Honestly, Brandy G. knows just how good DCAs mids are compared to CPA's best players and so do several parents. I'd say if DCA gets lucky early and scores they may go into a shell and deny CPA the direct style of play. Then it would get interesting.

Like I said I could see CPA having their way more so than DCA with a tie or 1 goal win. Maybe last year when CPA struggled and didn't have the transfer would have been a better opportunity for the Cats? Good luck!

Anything can happen at any given time.

I don't put a whole lot of stock in scrimmages.  Coaches are trying out different players in different formations.

I'm looking forward to seeing these players for DCA.  Heard a lot about them.  I am quite confident that this will not be an easy match for us.

We just need this rain to stop.

I'm glad you're looking forward to it because I'm not. Lol

Wegner and the new kid are a dynamic duo. Our back line lacks pace and tactical awareness. However, coach Smith is working hard to teach them. Losing a kid to her parents job transfer who was asked to play on the first team TSC 19 team hurt the talent and depth.

I'll have a good time regardless seeing Omer, Wegner, Pascarella, Lewis and Thorn. All are great guys with great players and families. Good luck!

In case you didn't hear:

Game time moved up to 6:00 at the track field at CPA.

I just saw the score flash up on Coach T for the DCA-CPA game. Is 2-1 DCA correct? If so, I strongly recant my statements earlier about DCA. The Heritage game must have been a fluke, or Heritage is a decent team after all. Congrats, DCA! I am sure the girls were all excited. Young talent, bright future.

Score is correct. I stand by my statement that the Heritage scrimmage was a scrimmage for DCA only. I'm not diminishing WHH by any means but DCA emptied the bench and played several key players very little. The truth is CPA is a much more talented team and it's not up for debate. CPA outshot DCA 24-4. DCAs keeper made several great stops and without question played the game of her life. Honestly, CPA was unlucky not to have scored several more. We all know how crazy and frustrating soccer can be when goals don't come when you're carpet bombing the goal.

DCAs coach is a good one. He played to win this game by moving a few kids around to help try to slow down CPA. DCA hung on and won a very tough, physical game by playing 9 kids almost the entire game. The freshman centermid played against Wegner in the first half and IMO held her own. She was good enough to get some open looks, make an assist and help DCA maintain a little possession.

All three forwards and the CM are freshmen. The goals were scored by two different freshmen and both assists were by freshmen. All six freshmen that played played forward with the exception of the CM who played the entire game. CPA also played freshmen and I thought they played great. DCA has a punchers chance against good teams with their new coach scheming and their best players have to play extremely well.

CPA is a very good team. They have speed, size, skill and depth. Not to mention a great coach. Had DCA gotten out of their defensive shell or moved their freshmen CM to forward to generate opportunities I think the score is very lopsided for CPA. Unfortunately, CPA had some rotten luck and DCA made the most of their opportunities. Good luck to CPA this season. With their talent I can see them making it to Murfreesboro.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
