I believe both teams are solid! Mathes is a pure athlete like his daddy! If he gets hurt SH in trouble! QB for SH didn't seem as good as when I seen him in past but may have been first game jitters! #15 for EHS is going to be a monster player! He is a freshman and was best pure athlete on the field! #53 at fullback is like following a tank! King was solid for SH but not what I heard advertised! Refs where absolutely horrible. They didn't have a clue but didn't cost the game just let to much stuff go on! I think both squads will be fine but SH has a much tougher schedule than EHS!

Mathes is a great athlete and you're right, he's a big part of this Topper team. He had a couple of big plays last night. But the player for SH that I was most impressed with was Ty Perkins. He had several clutch catches that kept some drives going. He and Mathes were definitely the standouts on the offense last night. Without them we don't win that game. Hopefully Bedard's performance had a lot to do nerves. He's "the guy" this year so I think knowing that, along with it being the first game of the year, affected his play last night. He wasn't bad but he wasn't great. As for Russell, he had a couple real nice runs and one catch for about 20 yards. This was his first game though with a new team so I only expect him to get better. I expect the whole team to get better. The biggest issues that I saw with the Toppers were OL and special teams.

The biggest issues I saw with Elizabethton were the passing game and the OL/DL play. SH's DL dominated the Cyclone OL.

Yogr right but our line is full of sophomore and JR and will get better the more games they play.SH will get better as well and best of luck to SH the rest of the season and hope you stay injury free.

Bedard had a tough night throwing the football. He looked hesitant and and short-armed a few passes early. The 3 picks were just awful. Let's hope it was jitters.

I thought #6 had a monster game on defense. A couple of tackles for loss and a sack. Science Hill kept Elizabethton in the game with the turnovers.

With that said, the Cyclones getting an unsportsmanlike with like a minute to go in the half ultimately cost them dearly. That was bone head.

14-14 at half and who knows what happens. I thought 10 was solid, better than JB. The Cyclones running game was relentless. They unbalanced the line and ran to the weak side. Witten saw something that the Hilltoppers couldn't figure.

Science Hill has to calm the QB down. He has so many playmaker. He should have a banner year if he gets it under control. The TD to #25 at the did was a nice throw.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
