3 teams are vying for only 2 postseason spots in the East: BA, Ensworth and Knox Catholic.  Which 2 advance and who is playing basketball Monday?

BA (vs Baylor): win and in. OR lose and either Ensworth or KC lose.

Ensworth (at McCallie): win and in.  OR lose and either BA win or KC lose.

Knox Catholic (vs Father Ryan): win and BA lose.

II-AAA East
4-0 (8-1) McCallie has clinched the #1 seed
3-1 (8-1) Baylor has clinched a playoff berth and can finish no lower than the #3 seed
2-2 (6-3) Brentwood Academy can finish as high as the #2 seed or possibly miss the playoffs
2-2 (6-3) Ensworth can finish as high as the #3 seed or possibly miss the playoffs
1-3 (6-3) Knoxville Catholic can finish as high as the #3 seed (the Ensworth doomsday scenario) but must win to have any chance at the post-season

Week 11 -- Friday, November 1, 2019
7:30 p.m. EDT kickoffs: FRHS at Knox Catholic and Ensworth at McCallie
8:00 p.m. EDT kickoff: Baylor at Brentwood Academy

All three of these games should be streaming live. I can tell you for a fact that FRHS/Catholic will be live/free on YouTube, as I'm calling that for ATW Sportscast in Knoxville. I believe Catholic will have a live broadcast on the NFHS Network.

Literally the only thing I've ever been told to not say during an FRHS broadcast is Fightin' or Fighting before the word Irish in connection with Father Ryan. So that should be interesting, as Knox Catholic somehow apparently escaped the Notre Dame C&D frenzy of a dozen or so years ago and still uses Fighting Irish as its nickname.

It will easily be my biggest team name broadcasting challenge since solo calling a Nashville SC vs. North Carolina FC soccer match at Vanderbilt Stadium in 2017.

ATW will also have Baylor/BA live on YouTube. I anticipate both Ensworth and McCallie will be streaming their game, particularly McCallie since it's at their place and they have student broadcasters.

There are only eight possible scenarios.

1) Ensworth wins, Catholic wins, BA wins
BA is the #2 seed, Baylor is the #3 seed, Ensworth is the #4 seed. Catholic misses the playoffs.

2) Ensworth wins, Catholic wins, BA loses
Baylor is the #2 seed, Ensworth is the #3 seed, Catholic is the #4 seed. Four-time defending state champion BA misses the playoffs.

3) Ensworth wins, Catholic loses, BA wins
BA is the #2 seed, Baylor is the #3 seed, Ensworth is the #4 seed. Catholic misses the playoffs.

4) Ensworth wins, Catholic loses, BA loses
Baylor is the #2 seed, Ensworth is the #3 seed, BA is the #4 seed. Catholic misses the playoffs.

5) Ensworth loses, Catholic wins, BA wins
BA is the #2 seed, BA is the #3 seed, Ensworth is the #4 seed. Catholic misses the playoffs.

6) Ensworth loses, Catholic wins, BA loses
Baylor is the #2 seed, Catholic is the #3 seed, BA is the #4 seed. Ensworth misses the playoffs.

7) Ensworth loses, Catholic loses, BA wins
BA is the #2 seed, Baylor is the #3 seed, Ensworth is the #4 seed. Catholic misses the playoffs.

8) Ensworth loses, Catholic loses, BA loses
Baylor is the #2 seed, BA is the #3 seed, Ensworth is the #4 seed. Catholic misses the playoffs.

    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
    • Maryville will recapture the loses from last year against West, Bradley and Farragut. The Bearden game will be the tough one but I look for the wheels to come off that ride somewhere down the road because of all the crap that goes on there. I know to many parents there and some of the things I've been told and some of the post a few of them have made on facebook. They all can't be liars.
    • If Heritage moves down and Alcoa moves up the best thing for Heritage is to do what William Blount did when theystopped playing Maryville or meet certain defeat. Honestly can't see Alcoa not moving up the way the county is growing. Might be in the Mountaineers best interest to stay in 5A because none of those teams on their schedule are anything close to Alcoa.
    • I say over as well. Barney, regarding the move to 4A, will the cross-town blowhards move up as well??
