The Numbers Game Continued...

This thread is a follow-up of CoachGonyeaSHS "Does This Seem

Right".

This is not an attempt at editorializing on the merits of any post on that thread. It is just some numbers games to speculate on and have fun with...not meant to attempt to validate any point of view. I was really happy to get that "D" on college math, so let me know about errors.

How Regions stack up by qualifiers for medals:

Region 5......17 (16 received medals)

Region 3......16

Region 7......14 (13 received medals)

Region 2......10

Region 1......10 (09 received medals)

Region 4......08

Region 8......06

If the final six placements are given point values in reverse of the placement, i. e. 6 points for 1st, 5 points for 2nd, etc., here is how the regions stack up on the quality points figured in this manner.

Region 3......66

Region 5......56*

Region 1......37*

Region 2......35

Region 4......34 tie

Region 7......34 tie*

Region 8......16

Region 6......13

*One wrestler who qualified for the medal round did not receive a medal and is not included in the total.

Total points scored by all the teams within each Region:

Region 3......463

Region 5......302.5 (-3)*

Region 7......288.5

Region 2......286

Region 4......274

Region 1......269 (-1)**

Region 6......220 (-2)**

Region 8......186

*All tournament points for one medal qualifier were deducted and are not included.

**I assume that all tournament points for one medal qualifier were deducted and are not included.

Number of teams in a region scoring points:

Region 2......13

Region 5......13 (The 14th team lost all points scored)

Region 7......13

Region 6......12

Region 8......10

Region 1......09 (The 10th team lost all points scored)

Region 3......09

Region 4......06

pbp1185, If your question is directed to me, my answer is "none of the above". The initial post implied a disclaimer that it was not intended to "editorialize" nor to "validate any point of view". It gives the figures of how the 8 regions stack up compared to each other in the 2003 State in those four areas. Reference was made to the other thread because that thread was addressing related regional concerns. If someone finds support for a point he would like to make in the numbers, they are there for the taking.

But regardless, the numbers that can be compiled showing regional comparisons don't count. Bradley Central added up the numbers that do count with their performance last week. Soddy Daisy, Cleveland, Franklin, and others added up the other numbers that really count.
