jamoz hit it on the head.

Larger areas with better news coverage alsot plays a factor. There are so many good publications in Middle Tennessee that it could tend to favor those in the middle and even in the east. Brian Fisk from Dyer Co. was a Mr. Basketball finalist and made the third team all state poll.

West Tennessee has two so callled "credible" newspapers and both of them stink.

As for Ms. Basketball Kendall Cavin, sowhat. State Finals, highest scoring average in the tourney, excellent career, and a super bright future ahead of her. Just to be mentioned with all of these great young players is honor enough. :D

I first would like to congratulate every player who has received any individual award in the post-season, and 10-15 years from now you will understand what I am about to say. Individual awards are fine, and somebody is always going to get their underwear in a wad because voting didn't go the way they felt it should, but the individual awards tarnish and people forget. The experiences the girls have are what they are going to remember. I have stashed my high school and college individual awards in my attic, but the team accomplishments, my team mates, the fun, the travel, the coaches, the hard-work, and the life-lessons we experienced as a team are what I carry with me EVERYDAY. We have many young ladies who have the opportunity to continue making memories for a life time at the next level, so instead of bickering and shedding a negative light, the adults on this board need to encourage the kids to understand that even though individual awards are nice, they ARE NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING and are definitely not the things that you will hold dear to your heart years from now!

BASKETBALL- a team sport; unless you are playing one-on-one.

Your comments are excellent and come from having experienced both the awards and other lessons in life. Some people never "get it". All of these girls who play so hard during the year and during post season deserve our respect and encouragement.

Concerning miss basketball being a first team selection. Kendall Cavin was voted as best AA player in the state. There may be four better than her in AAA. Plus the teams are chosen by positions. I do agree that she should have made the first team over Laura Hall but remember they are chosen by position.

    • Pickett is good, may have a Mr. Football like season if he’s used correctly. One of the best teams Marion has fielded in a while. I think they go 12-1 and loose to ER.  ER has better players at almost every position. If they play discipline this year, they win soundly. If they don’t though…Marion could sneak away with it.
    • I’m betting the house on the Indians. Pickett and Co will be the only team to challenge the Indians in the East. Huntingdon can in the West. I think Brooks goes 15-0 and has the first perfect season and state championship in ER history.
    • Sounds like a great opportunity has opened up for the football team.  With the head coach of the diamond rebels making it official and quitting this week, there should be some room for the gridiron guys to benefit. I assume the administration won’t continue paying six figures to two former coach that quit to continue teaching drivers Ed. Thats pretty good money that could be redirected toward the football program. Also, with the more recent policies of pushing kids to only play one sport, abolishing the baseball program altogether would help on Friday nights in the fall. There is some decent speed on that baseball team that should’ve been playing on Fridays IMO. I’m not sure if anybody would really miss that baseball program anyway with it being across town from the school. The liability of letting players actually use the facilities could also be mitigated with closing the program. That liability seems to be a really big issue for 825. Anyway, it seems like a great opportunity is available.
    • Yeah, I read about their spring blue/gray scrimmage after I typed that.   Sounds like a real mess over there.  I just hate that for 'em.  Haw
    • Maybe OR will be, but Farragut, nah, I don’t think anybody realizes how much of a bad situation that program is in currently. I’m sure they will build out of it, but the next 3 to 4 years are going to be a long climb up.
