That last stat tells the story of this game as the tenacious defense of Lewis Co. forced many turnovers by Wayne Co. Through 3 qtrs. of the game Lewis Co. only had 7 turnovers while Wayne Co. had 22. Lewis led after the 1st qtr., 14-9, as Tenison & Brugmann had 4 each while Wayne Co. had 4 players with 2 each. In the 2nd qtr., Anderson had 5 (1 three), Clayton had a three, & Sheets added 4 for Lewis Co. while McNutt had 4 for Wayne Co. as Lewis now leads, 28-18 at the half. In the 3rd qtr., Lewis outscored Wayne, 18-9, with Tenison adding 6, Bradley 4, & Brugmann 4 while McNutt hit a three for Wayne as the score stands 46-27 Lewis. In the 4th qtr., Lewis played mainly subs down the stretch as Wayne Co outscored Lewis 15-9 to make the score respectable as Lewis takes the win 54-42. There was one negative for Lewis Co. however - Mallory Clayton slipped mid-way through the 4th qtr. and hurt her knee. Reports say it is only cartilage damage, not ligament. She is going to the doctor tomorrow morning and may only be out 2-3 weeks. I hate to see any player get hurt and hope she recovers soon.

Our girls played great for the majority of the game. I think about the time Mallory got hurt and the starters came out it got a bit sloppy but the game was already won by then so it didn't matter. Well I expect us to beat Creekwood tonight also by 10+. I'd also like to wish Mallory a quick recovery. :D;)

Sorry to hear that countyclerk. I was going to say something to you after the game, but you were kind of busy. I first met Mallory a couple of years ago at a holiday tournament at BGA when she was recovering from her broken ankle. She was sitting close by with the rest of the Lewis girls and turned around and said "You're from Page, aren't you?". My cover was blown. I had researched Lewis Co. at the time and noticed that she had not been playing and I wondered why. I hope that she recovers quickly from this injury as she is a great asset to the team. Good luck Lady Panthers against Lawrence Co. on Tuesday. I wish I could be there to support you, but Page has a game at Fairview that night. I'll certainly be there on the 27th when you play Loretto again in what will be an important district matchup. Hang in there Mallory - hope to see you playing again by tournament time.

I'm also sorry to hear that countyclerk. I was hoping maybe she just sprained it or something and would be able to come back in a few weeks but if it is torn she'll probably be out for a while. Whatever the case is I hope she has a quick recovery and gets back on the court before the season is over. :(

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
