Lacrosse is not an Olympic sport. It was, however, in 1904 and 1908, with Canada winning both years. It was also a demonstration sport in 1928, 1932, and 1948.

Field hockey and girls lacrosse are seperate sports.

Girls lacrosse is different than men's. Contact is not allowed in girls lacrosse. There are other differences, as well, like the sticks, size of field, etc.

Currently, there are around 12 girls high school teams and 4 or 5 girls middle school team in Tennessee. Girls LAX in TN has only been around a few years, while boys has been active since the late 80's. It is growing rapidly, though. I would think that girls LAX will really take off because it is a spring sport alternative to softball, tennis, and track.

This is a good site to reference: TN LAX

What's with the out of bounds thing? Is it that when the ball goes out, the team with the closest player to the ball when it goes out gets possession? And is it a free out? One thing I've never truly understood... :(

Out of bounds. This is similar to soccer when the ball is being possessed. Whoever touches it last or has it when they step on the line or are forced out, it alternates possession. Loose balls (groundballs) are the same situation. Only on shots does the closest player get possession of the ball.
