2004 AAU round up

Recommended Posts

Wow what a great year for TN girls AAU.

Let's start with the 10u teams in Orlando, Fl

The three teams that made it out of their pool to the championship bracket were the W Tn Tigers (finished top 16), TN Team Pride (finished top 32) and the Tn Express (did a great job by finishing second in their pool but their luck ran out in the bracket play).

11u in Kenner,La

We had 4 teams in the championship bracket there with the KGC Pride finishing top 4. Mem Waves, Top Guns and the Tn Tigers also participating in the big dance.

12u in Kingport, TN

Tn really had a good showing in our home state.

W Tn Tigers(top 8), SS, Bulls and TN Team Pride all won their respective pools. We could of had even a better finish here but the Tn teams were scheduled to play each other and kept knocking each other out.

13u Rochester, Mn

This was probably our weakest age group. The Tn Stars, TN Team Pride and Mem Elite all were there.

14u Monroe , La

Starting with the 14u and continuing up to the older age groups AAU changed the format of the tourney. This year every team played 5 or 6 games in their pool and then were seeded into the single elimination championship bracket. In the past a team would play 3 games in their pool and then go to the championship bracket (if you finished 1 or 2) or go to the shootout(if you finished 3 or 4).

Both the TN Team Pride and the KAYA Stingers(2 very talented teams) won their pools. Each team also finished tied for 17th out of 108 teams. The Liberty finished 3rd out of 5 teams in their pool but made it to the top 32. The Net Force also played in Monroe.

15u Winston Salem NC

Arguably the best age group from TN.

Out of 106 teams in NC we had 3 of the Sweet 16. Including SS(Champs), TN Team Pride(5th) and Mem Select (top 16). Also doing well were the Mem Waves and the Mem Express.

16u Chattanooga , TN

Here's another great age group for TN.

80+ teams started out trying to keep the gold ball from leaving Tn. The Tn stars(2nd place) and TN Team Pride(5th place) almost did keep it here. The Tn Elite finished top 32.

17u/18u Orlando, Fl

The 17u teams that participated were the Pacesetters and the Top Guns.

The 18u Tn Elite beat the Mem Mustangs to make the Elite 8.

Great job all across the state. That's why people do not look forward to playng Tn teams in the AAU Nationals.

I know there were other teams in the Nationals that did not make it to the championship brackets congrats to those teams as well.

The Celtics and the Charles Davis Foundation are continuing on at the Jr. Olympics in Des Moines,Iowa with the Celtics finishing second in their pool and CDF going undefeated in pool play. The Celtics are coached by Becky Myatt and the players are mostly from the Tn Elite 16 and 17 yr old squads. The CDF Lady Kats are coached by Tiffany Woosley and are comprised of players from CDF, Tn Team Pride 16 yr old and one player from the Stampede.Good luck to both teams and keep up the good work.

Wow ...you are right about the Mem Elite 12u team. They are a great team. That was an oversight.

There were so many good Tn teams in Kingsport it was easy to do.

You are also right about the Mem Elite 13u qualifying; but since they did not go I did not mention them(there is a long list of those kind of teams). However, I did hear the 13u Elite had problems at the end of the season which kept them from attending.
