Cook had a good game friday night, a big thanks to the blocking of rebel 51 and 87. rushing yards were high running behind them, but cook didn't gain too many yards running behind the blocking of MR.D1 ( thats a joke). The rebels biggest problem seems to be too many I's and not enough team. Too many worried about individual stats and who is going to get press time.

Welcome aboard baddog,

There hasn't been a lot of posting from McKenzie fans this season. Go easy on "Mr. D1", even Chad Clifton dogged his senior season at Westview and he's playin' with the Packers!!!

Cody did have a good game and so did the battery of receivers and Hayes. The defense played good enough as well. The next two weeks are gonna' be tough and we need to support this team to our fullest. Ease up a bit and lets see how far the Rebels can go this year!

hey duckman, i do support the mckenzie rebels, all the way. edwards should be a powerful force on the front line and he hasn't shown that yet. friday night rebel 87 anderson was sealing the end and tackle and luna was pulling and putting players on their back. cooks yardage was made on luna and anderson's side of the line.

I too, agree with ya'll on the Rebel running game being best to Luna's side. The pass blocking seems to be better on that side too! Both Luna and Anderson have done a great job this season in the O line.

Can't figure the kickoff return thing out either. Maybe we're not good at open field blocking for one thing!? Also, I haven't seen the front two lines of our kickoff team really getting back toward the returners before trying to block. If they don't get their drops before trying to block it's a lot more difficult.

Kickoff teams are supposed to stay in their ziones but, they tend to collapse toward the runner in high school anyway. That makes for easier blocking.

baseballguy,

Yeah, the Rebel's depth is very shallow at this time. Looking back to the time when Coach Kohen came to McKenzie and even back into Coach Thomas' time as head coach, it has been standard practice to use players that don't get a lot of playing time otherwise on the kicking teams.

It's just like any other part of the game, they have to be taught how to play on the kicking teams! Somewhere within my thoughts and your thoughts is the problem.

I agree with Baseball Guy about the kickoff coverage. Why does McKenzie not have their best players covering? How many teams have run kickoffs back against the Rebels this year? If it happens once you sort of overlook it. If it happens twice, you make some adjustments. It has happened several times, and we are still overlooking it and making no adjustments. Players don't stay in their lanes and they don't break down when closing in on the ball carrier. This is a problem that could be solved during ONE practice session. A good team improves from game to game. McKenzie has not improved any in this area.

I sort of understand the fact that if u play both ways, you do need rest. But if there is nobody better than what mckenzie has on kickoff and kickoff return, then you have no choice but to put people out there to make a block or make a tackle. I know that the players that are playing both ways feel the same way as me. Come playoff time, mckenzie cant afford to take the ball at the 20, and they also cant afford to kick the ball to the 40 or try the onside kick everytime. Even if the players do get too tired, I would be searching the practice field for some people that would make a block or make a tackle.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
